About Béa

With my husband's help I have tried to create a place to rest, surrounded by nature and peaceful, near the beautiful historic town of Bayeux, rich in Norman history and memories of the heroes of D-Day.

We have been committed to environmental protection for over 20 years: the construction has an ecological design, food is organic and there is no Wi-Fi pollution (only cable connections and optional wifi amplificator).

Bed mattresses are new and firm for great back support and to provide a good night sleep.

We want you to feel at home.

Béa purchased this house in 2013

Why Béa chose Arganchy

This is my grandmother's ‏(father's side) native region, and I have always heard about her cousins in Bayeux but I only met them once.

What makes this house unique

The entire manor was renovated in 2013-2014 for this first year of tenancy.

We enjoy the peace and the fresh air of the Norman countryside from the south-facing terraces.

Beaumanoir is the last property in the hamlet, located right after Sainte-Radegonde Church, in a small hamlet of 25 families.

Fantastic spot to situate yourselves while exploring the D-Day sites

  • 5 of 5

My husband, along with our son and daughter-in-law spent 6 nights in the Lightkeepers and Bakery gites. While the Lightkeeper's place was large enough for four people, it only had one bathroom and that is something I try hard not to have happen with four adults - hence the two separate rentals. I was glad I'd gone with the larger gite, rather than a two person apartment that is also available on the property as the weather did not make it nice to sit outside for meals or in the evenings.

These gites are just so adorable - we felt so "French" staying there. Claude and Pascale have thought of everything you need in the kitchen to make meals - we cooked at home quite often. They supplied us with welcome cider, which was very tasty and appreciated, along with coffee, etc. The bedding & pillows were very comfortable and we so appreciated the size of bath towels. In the larger gite we had a lovely heated towel bar to help dry the towels and keep the bathroom comfortable. We never used heat elsewhere as it was not required.

Our son/DIL, while not in their gite that much did enjoy their own place. They did mention that they could never get their bath towels completely dry while there and apparently there is no heated towel bar - but that was a minor inconvenience.

We did laundry while there as we were on an extended trip. We really appreciated the dryer along with the washer!

Claude told us new owners have purchased the property and I am sure they will be continuing the welcoming atmosphere of these gites. You can't go wrong choosing a gite on this property while you stay and explore the surrounding area.

A beautiful house with character in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We would highly recommend a stay at La Maison du Gardien. The house is in a lovely, peaceful location and ideally situated for visiting Bayeux and the D-Day beaches. It is very comfortable and well-equipped and has a beautiful garden which was perfect for our 2 energetic boys and relaxing in the evenings with a barbecue. We received a very warm welcome from Claude and Pascale who gave us lots of useful tips about visiting the area.

A very special gite in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed a wonderful week in La Maison du Guardien. Before we had even left home the thoughtful and informative communications from the owner made our arrival straightforward and pleasant, and we received a wonderful, warm welcome. The house itself is the very best combination of Norman character and contemporary luxury. It is very well equipped, spacious and scrupilously clean, with comfortable beds and a luxurious modern bathroom. The location is beautiful - wonderful gardens and great views from every window, a rural idyll that is only a few miles from Bayeux with all its charm and amenities. It is also perfectly located for the D-Day beaches. It was peaceful and restful, and we all feel very lucky that we were able to call this lovely house "home" for a few days. Many thanks, Claude: we hope to visit you again.

A little piece of Paradise in Normandy

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Maison du gardien for 5 nights at the end of our European vacation. The photos are accurate, but really do not do justice to this incredible property. The peace and tranquility of the setting are only matched by its beauty. We had amazing weather during our stay, and so enjoyed having dinner "en plein air" sitting at the picnic table on the patio. We loved walking through the neighbourhood, watching the sheep, horses and chickens, and listening to the birds. We also made sure to pay a visit to the +400 year old Sainte Radegonde church right next door to the property.

In addition, Claude and Pascale are very accommodating hosts, and made us feel right at home.

Arganchy is a small village about a 10 minute drive from Bayeux and consequently, it really helps if you have a car, but I have heard that some guests do travel by taxi. Because we had a car, we were able to do a number of day trips. We went to Mont Saint Michel and Etretat, which are both about an hour and a half away- and both are well worth the trip. We also did a half day tour of the D-day landing sights with one of the local tour operators - not to be missed if you are in the area.

We LOVED our stay, and would highly recommend Beaumanoir, and the Maison du gardien.
