A brilliant place to stay for 2 people, to chill out in the countryside.
Well stocked with everything needed by the affable host. Better for a family than friends due to the bedroom/bathroom arrangements.
Lovely cottage in the heart of Burgundy
My friend and I passed a truly lovely three nights in Christian's Ecutigny cottage in late June 2018. The cottage is impossible to miss, being just off of the main road through town. Communication with Christian prior to and during our stay was great. Even though the weather was warm, the thick stone walls kept the cottage cool during the day. As we (sadly) left, Christian recommended that we stop to look at Chateau de Chateauneuf on our way to Paris and we're so glad that we did. It was a highlight of our time in Burgundy. I have no qualms about recommending the cottage in Ecutigny and would happily return for a longer stay!
Wonderful, friendly, welcoming host
Excellent location convenient to Beaune and the delights of Burgundy
Quiet rural town setting with the countryside mere steps away
Cozy and quaint interior made us feel at home
Comfortable beds with plenty of bedding & pillows
Gorgeous exterior bursting with flowers and plants (late June)
All the amenities needed by self-catering travelers (mini fridge, cooktop, washing machine, WiFi, parking, plentiful maps & local guides)
Friendly local cat to greet us at the end of a long day sightseeing
Interior stayed cool during the heat of the day
Two full bathrooms (though only one shower was working - not a big deal for us)
Lots of room to spread out and not step on each others toes
The one bathroom I used was built under the eaves, so it was a bit cramped for my 5'10" frame. Not a huge deal, just a minor annoyance.
The other bathroom's door is a barn door that was difficult to close & open.
The electricity is a bit tricky, with some switches needing to be turned on in order for other outlets to work. Again, not a huge deal once you know what powers which switches, so pay close attention to Christian when he walks you through at check-in.
The upstairs bonus area with 2-3 beds is somewhat unfinished but looked liveable - I'd suggest bringing slippers for walking around if you're planning to use that space.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay and regretted not being able to stay longer.
Living a dream
Wonderful stay. Beautiful setting. Great hospitality from Christian. Wish we were there longer.
A lovely location in a peaceful French village
Our host Christian was very pleasant and helpful. The accommodation was very comfortable and had everything we needed. We spent a lovely day with rental bikes riding from Beaune through vineyards and quaint villages along the way. There are many picturesque villages in the area that can be reached by car.
Quiet, clean and beautiful
This place was very clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We were a family of 4 and this place was perfect for us. Christian and his wife were very kind, the town is very quiet and the house is amazingly beautiful. Although the town seems a bit secluded, it is not a far drive to shops such as in Bligny-sur-Ouche or bigger shops in Beaune (big supermarkets).
The St-Jean family
Wonderful hospitality from the owner. The cottage has lovely large rooms with thick stone walls so it never gets too hot inside although it has air conditioning anyway. The surrounding countryside is beautiful with lots of nice villages and the superb town of Beaune only a short drive away.
The architectural heritage and tourism in the region is vast and varied / wine cellar tour and tasting of the great vintages / Castles / Monuments / Medieval village / Channels Burgundy / MTB Routes / Restaurants and Gastronomy / Horse Riding / Lake / Fishing / Swimming / Climbing / Educational farm of '1000 Paws' front of the house visit upon appointment / Hiking drills from Bligny sur Ouche five kilometers from home / Trade and bakery five minutes from the house / Beaune, 25 minutes drive, Dijon is 45 minutes by the ouche valley road along one of the many canals of Burgundy ... guaranteed change of scenery!
