About the property

10 min walk to town, 5 to beach! 1/2way between Ferry Landing & Moran State Park

Our convenient location can't be beat! An easy 10 minute walk brings you to the village of Eastsound and a 5 minute walk to the beach at Waterfront Park. Crescent Beach is also less than a mile from the house. About a 15 minute, very scenic drive brings you to either Moran State Park, Deer Harbor or the ferry landing. Huckleberry House is ideally located and equipped to be your Orcas Island home away from home!

From a south-facing slope, we overlook the bay beautifully filtered through huge native trees from the living, dining and loft areas.

Centrally located halfway between Moran State Park and the ferry landing, the Eastsound Village area's many restaurants, shops and activities make it an ideal home base for island visitors. A scenic 15 minute drive takes you to Moran State Park with miles of hiking trails and beautiful Cascade Lake which offers swimming, fishing and boat rentals.

Fully furnished including leather sofas, new 40' flat screen smart TV with DVD and free WIFI. A well-equipped kitchen with washer and dryer, and spacious dining area. Plus two queen bedrooms, one in an upstairs loft with a tree-filtered view of East Sound Bay. The lofted, exposed beam ceilings, and fir trim on battened walls give our charming craftsman home a bright and cozy atmosphere.

Huckleberry House is the perfect spot for a relaxing stay on Orcas in any season, or an ideal starting point for your exploration of all the San Juan Islands.

About Pamela Guyer

Pam & Steve on Cascade Lake Bridge, Moran State Park, Orcas Island

Pamela Guyer purchased this house in 2006

Why Pamela Guyer chose Eastsound

Welcome to Huckleberry House!

We purchased it in 2006 when we were compelled by family issues to return to the mainland after a short but delightful six years of living in the islands. It was a way for us to keep our 'foot in the door' and have a place to stay while visiting the good friends we made while we lived here. The house was completely renovated inside and out shortly before we purchased it. We really enjoy the next-to-town central location. When we lived here, we were on an outer island and Eastsound was an hour away, so it's a big treat for us to be able to walk into 'town' on a whim. We love Orcas because it provides the best of both worlds; amazing outdoor scenery and activities as well as good eats and fun shops. I know you'll find our house and Orcas Island as relaxing and charming as we do.

Cheers!

What makes this house unique

May I just say location, location, location!!!

Staying right in the center of Orcas Island gives you easy access to the 'ends' of the island if you'd like to explore during your visit. And if you'd rather stay home and relax at the house, it's really nice to be so close to the village that you can easily walk or drive there in a few minutes for coffee or a little shopping or a meal or the groceries to make one back at the house.

Enjoy!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks! It was a lovely place, just the right size for our family,

and very well appointed. I like how it felt private and secluded, back in

the woods in a small cabin community, but was so close to town. We

especially loved watching the hummingbird turf wars off the deck. Also, we

heard a pair of great horned owls hooting last night, one sounded rather

close. Maybe there's a nest nearby!

Really enjoyed our stay. The owners are accommodating and responsive. The home is clean and well-appointed - everything you need! A gorgeous deck with a view of the water. Quiet and secluded yet a short walk to town. The layout of the house is perfect. Would recommend to others. Thank you for a great vacation!

cute cottage

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay very much. The cottage is tiny but has good separation of space and is nicely furnished. We were concerned that the open loft bedroom would not have enough privacy, but it was fine. Everything was clean and no signs of PNW mildew... much appreciated! Our only issues were the traffic noise and the dark, super tiny kitchen. The weather was good so we tended to want to be outside on the porch, and the traffic was so noisy -at times. It was tied to the ferry arrival/departures, and died down after the brief 'rush'. However, we heard very little noise when inside. We like to cook most meals when traveling with kids, and the kitchen is a one person space. Meant my husband had to do the dishes by himself :). We brought kitchen things, not knowing what to expect, but it was well stocked and we did not need anything. We would happily stay here again, and think it would be very cosy in the fall when the weather is chilly and the trees are not leafed out. The view is nice but would be even better then.

Great House, Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Huckleberry House (in spite of the weather). Its proximity to East Sound made it a perfect base for exploring both the town and nearby Moran Park. East Sound is a cute little town that has a bit of everything, including a food co-op, quite a few restaurants, and lots of art. The people are friendly and helpful, and the views are spectacular.

The kitchen was well-equipped and convenient, and the beds were extra comfy, with high thread-count sheets. The house has a lovely ocean view and a deck to enjoy it from, although the weather kept us from using it much. I could see it would be very enjoyable in the summer.

We love our cute and cozy home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

My family didn't want to leave! We loved our stay at Huckleberry House. The cabin is super cute, clean and so cozy it feels like home. We loved the wood burning stove. The setting and view is amazing. The walk to the village is short. The town is adorable. The island is like a throw-back in time - very peaceful and quaint. I loved the fully stocked kitchen!! We cooked Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas dinner so we needed a good kitchen! This place did not disappoint! Wine glasses, good knives and the spices were a big help so we didn't have to buy a bunch of spices for our short stay. The cabin was perfect. My girls loved the upstairs bedroom loft. We all definitely want to return! Thank you Pamela for letting guests enjoy your cabin!

This is a cozy, basic cabin in the trees overlooking East Sound. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with all you need to prepare and serve meals.

Very comfortable, wonderful location

The cottage is cozy and very tastefully decorated. Easy walking distance into Eastsound and convenience to every location on the island made it the perfect base for our Orcas Island stay. Hosts were accessible and responsive.
