About Melissa Levis
The Levis family has owned the Wilburton Inn since 1987. We are a creative family that loves working together and welcoming travelers to discover our magical estate. Because we are a close family, we especially love welcoming multi generational family reunions. Patriarch Albert is a psychiatrist from Athens, Greece. He is the founder of Moral Science, the curator of The Museum of the Creative Process, and a pioneer in Conflict Resolution and the integration of the humanities and the sciences. Innkeeper Georgette Levis, was the sister of Lazard CEO Bruce Wasserstein and beloved Broadway playwright Wendy Wasserstein. Guests are always surprised to see the huge Sisters Rosensweig poster in the inn’s living room. Georgette's family nick-name was Gorgeous and she inspired Madeleine Kahn's Tony award winning role in the Broadway hit. The 4 Levis children include Tajlei: an Andover, Columbia, and NYU law school grad who lives on the Upper West Side of NYC and is writing the Broadway bound musical adaptation of the TV show, Green Acres. Melissa: a Middlesex School, Brown University and NYU award-winning songwriter who entertained thousands of NYC preschoolers with her band Moey’s Music Party. Melissa is delighted to be the new Maria Von Trapp and Vermont singing innkeeper. Oliver: a Cornell grad (where he met his wife Bonnie) and together founded Earth Sky Time Community Farm and Bakery, a thriving organic farm based from our childhood home, 3 miles from the inn. Their breads are a delicious part of the Wilburton inn breakfast and their organic farm night dinners every Wednesday in summer are not to be missed! Max: a Columbia, Harvard Divinity School and soon to be Boston University PhD. Max is the intellectual of the bunch and could have been a wonderful rabbi but instead chose to be a scholar and innkeeper. Max collaborates with Albert to pioneer an on-line program of emotional education and self-knowledge. The 3rd Generation includes 7 grandchildren.
Melissa Levis purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2002
Why Melissa Levis chose Manchester Center
This robber baron estate has evolved through the 20th century from a private home, to a prep school, to an inn and now to an inn that celebrates life as a farm, a bakery, and a museum advancing creativity to become the core of education. This is a spectacular, huge home where guests can relax and truly get away from it all.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
Tour our outdoor sculpture trails that show the history of love and the evolving images of women through cross cultural myths. Visit our son's Earth Sky Time organic farm and bakery less than 3 miles from the house.
100% refund if cancelled at least 60 days before arrival date.
For the last 3 years we have spent MLK weekend at the Wilburton Inn for a ski trip with six other families. I can't say enough good things about this place. There was plenty of space for 14 adults and 18 children to relax and enjoy. The huge dining room and living room made for great meals and hanging around time. With only a short drive to Bromley/Stratton - the Wilburton Inn is a true home run.
Home away from home
We have now made two events here and we absolutely love it. Plenty of room for everyone, wonderful kitchen, and my kids are already planning what next simcha they can have here.
Awesome house for a big family get together!
I highly recommend the Battenkill Valley Mansion!
We had a family holiday celebration weekend with 27 people ranging from my 3-month old niece to my 85- year old mother. The house was perfect!
Everybody loved the bedrooms, which are larger than they look online. We enjoyed relaxing in the living room and in the family room by the fire. The kids enjoyed the ping pong table and basketball game.
The kitchen is awesome. We cooked several large meals.
The dining room is very spacious. We were able to eat together as a family several times.
Most of all the "vibe" is very homey and comfortable. Everyone really enjoyed themselves and didn't want to leave.
5th Family Thanksgiving Reunion
This was our 5th Thanksgiving reunion with our family of 30 (including 16 grandkids ages 1 to 17 yrs. old). It has always been a great time with a lot of activities, including lacrosse, soccer, touch football, and fire-pit time outside and butter making, ping pong, basketball, wine tasting, and a huge Thanksgiving dinner inside with all gathered around tables in the game room. The old house was in better shape than previously with some new improvements and very clean. It is a grand old house for large groups with a bathroom in 13 of the 14 bedrooms. All of our family members, young and old, look forward to our time in the Mansion.
Amazing place, amazing owners!
A wonderful, spacious location in a gorgeous location; convenient to everywhere but far enough away to feel like you are out in the country. The rooms are spotless and well maintained, the kitchen top-notch and the house had plenty of space for our large (25+) party. Highly recommended.
Fantastic Family Reunion at a Fantastic Location
Our family has been enjoying the warm hospitality and great location for our 4th weekend reunion. The Mansion provides both indoor and outdoor room to relax , enjoy and to have great fun regardless of age. The fire pit is one of the features that really brings the family together as we gather round in the evening in the glow of a warm and inviting fire. The kitchen is great and provides the capabilities to feed over forty people in a very family atmosphere. The bedrooms are warm and spacious. Also we take advantage of the Wilburton Inn for overflow . The staff is on call to assist in any way and provide a very high level of service. All in all a great place ,with great people, with great views ! Looking forward to our 5th anniversary next year.
This mansion was built in 1904 as a wedding present for the daughter of the original owner of the nearby Wilburton Inn. Our family bought the Wilburton in 1987 and reunited this mansion with the property in 2005. Our nearby family homestead- Earth, Sky, Time Farm- is a favorite organic farm & bakery in Manchester. We love this area of southern Vermont. We grew up here, raised our kids here and love sharing these historic homes with other big families and groups of friends to create their own Vermont memories.
