About the property

Holiday in your own chateau with 8 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, with 5 star features

Plantagenet Manor is a beautiful eight bedroom ‘petit’ chateau with an in-ground Roman style pool that has just gone through a complete renovation with five new bathrooms, new gourmet commercial size kitchen, new modern four poster beds and

luxury Egyptian cotton bedding, duck down quilts and pillows, new fluffy towels, and a great mix of new and antique furniture sourced from all over France by the renown Australian Interior Designer, Liane Lancaster and her husband Robert.

The chateau is located in the centre of historic Chalus on over half an acre of grounds, and is within walking distance to restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and a lovely new Health Spa.

The town was made famous by being the place where Richard the Lionheart met his death while storming a castle. The chateau sits below the castle which dominates the town from it's high rocky location on top of a hill. A second smaller castle now in ruins is located a short distance from the chateau.

The town is on the Richard the Lionheart route and is close to many castles, chateau, abbeys, medieval towns and villages and is located in a National Park, renown all over France for it's beautiful natural scenery, woodlands and lakes.

The city of Limoges with its international airport and high speed rail links is only 35 kilometres away and Paris is only four hours away.

About Robert Lancaster

The owners of Plantagenet Manor are Robert and Liane Lancaster. Robert is the CEO of Lancasters Global Risk and a property developer and Liane is a renown Australian Interior Designer. They reside in Sydney, Australia and in France.

Robert Lancaster purchased this chateau / country house in 2013

Why Robert Lancaster chose Limoges

After looking to purchase a small chateau after renovating their 6 bedroom country house in the Dordogne in 2011, Robert and Liane came across the property after viewing dozens of others. They both fell in love with the place and saw the potential to turn it into something special. It ticked all the boxes they were looking for, with grand proportion sized rooms, high ceilings, wonderful circular staircase and manageable grounds. Within close walking distance to cafes, restaurants, bars and within a National Reserve renown for it's natural beauty, with woodlands, lakes and close to many castles and medieval towns and villages and other tourist attractions. Importantly the property is close to international transport links. It ticked all the boxes to turn the place into something special with great rental potential.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

What is unique about Plantagenet Manor is that everything is brand new and the place has been put together with style and luxury. From the new beds with luxury bedding usually only found in 5 star hotels, to the wonderful circular stairway, gourmand kitchen and Master bathroom that looks like something out of a Vogue Magazine. The place is very family friendly with a whole floor built around having children stay at the property. The property is very unique being a chateau in town, rather than having to drive anywhere, you simply can walk to the shops or restaurants and bars. Yet it has the feeling of privacy with it's raised position, walls and high boxed hedges and huge grounds not found in any town we have been in.

Guestbook comments from the owner

July 2014

Our stay in Plantagenet Manor was wonderful. We are fell in love of your little castle. It was very spacious, comfortable and tastefully decorated. The location is ideal: in proximity of commerce, restaurant and trail for long and beautiful ride.

I highly recommend Plantagenet Manor.

Lovely property, unpleasant owner

  • 1 of 5

You only need to read the property owners response to A M.'s review to understand what type of person you will be dealing with. The very rapid addition of some 5 star reviews since then (coincidentally, all on the same day) is also worth noting.

Whilst it's a lovely property and location, we felt completely intimidated by the owner and were really shocked by his accusations of property damage when we returned home. We couldn't believe how much of our deposit he was keeping for such ridiculous reasons and how rude and insulting he was towards us in the process. The damages he has listed are a complete falsification.

We were 4 families (all London based professionals) staying at the chateaux and we had a pleasant relaxing time together. We have stayed at numerous other holiday rentals and have always had our full deposit returned. We are not the type of people that would ever intentionally damage property or a person's reputation. The owner has made us out to be reckless and inconsiderate which is very upsetting and hurtful, especially after the care we took while staying at the property.

Be aware of this situation before you book. The holiday may end up costing you a lot more than you anticipated.

Grand & Impressive

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful high ceilings, rooms with Grand proportions, wonderful pool next to an ancient church. I liked that the owners organised a local chef to cater for a special lunch. The modern kitchen is amazingly kitties out and very spacious, I would hope to come back again soon

Idyllic

  • 5 of 5

I was very lucky to spend some time at this beautiful chateau during September 2016. The house has all the charm of a french chateau with all the modern conveniences. Kitchen is large and cosy, beds comfortable and bathrooms with hotel quality finishes. All set within a large garden with a beautiful pool area. Perfect for those long sunny days.

The area is rich in history with lots to see and do and convenient to access with airport and major rail station a short drive away.

Robert and Liane are wonderful hosts with masses of local knowledge and more than happy to pass on recommendations for restaurants, items of interest etc.

Can’t wait to go back !!

A beautifully appointed petit chateau. Absolutely no complaints as the property fulfilled all its promise. Great kitchen which we really enjoyed taking advantage of during our stay.

We will be back with probably the same group of friends.

Amazing & Incredible

  • 5 of 5

My family and I arrived at Plantagenet Manor and Wow what a unbelievable property. We had just spent 4 weeks traveling in Europe and this was the last stop for a little bit of R&R

This beautiful Petit Chateau is located on the edge of the historic town of Chalus wrapped in history.

The property is beautifully furnished, well equipped & incredibly spacious. The pool & BBQ area works well and our family spent most of our stay entertaining outdoors we had a week of fabulous weather for September and the pool was a cool refreshing relief.

The property has the view of the old church in its sights and the bells frequently ring which is every French villages charm, we loved the village lifestyle and to be immersed in such a gorgeous property and part of France really topped of the vacation.

I can only highly recommend this beautiful Chateau in this wonderful part of France

Fabulous stay in an idyllic location

  • 5 of 5

The property and stay was exceptional. The town is small and idyllic and a short walk to local amenities and surrounded by history and so many things to do.

The owners have clearly spared no expense in providing beautiful bedrooms and bathrooms and the huge professional kitchen was fabulous to cook in and beautifully renovated. There's a huge dining room and lounge area in which to relax and unwind in front of the fireplace.

The fabulous outdoor space with a pool and seating area was private and tranquil and great for entertaining.

There are plenty of day trips and restaurants in the vacinity to visit and enjoy.

If you want somewhere special to relax and enjoy, you won't be dissapointed. It was truly a memorable experience and we'll be back with friends.
