Overview

Photos and Description of this Trecastagni holiday chateau / country house

8 Sleeps, Trecastagni, Garden, Palmento, Farmhouse

A converted winery. It’s a uniquely Sicilian house built of grey lava stone, with the working of the wine press still visible in the cool, spacious interior. The property is located just 100 meters from the centre of Trecastagni, where you can find restaurants and shops.

The original farmhouse and wine pressing room have been restored to create comfortable living areas. The first floor of the farmhouse hosts the master bedroom, with en-suite bathroom and another bedroom with adjacent bathroom that is effectively en-suite if the 3rd bedroom on this floor is unoccupied. The second bedroom features a mezzanine floor (that could sleep two children if required). Downstairs is a living area on two levels. This used to be the wine pressing room. The upper level hosts a double bed, with curtains to create privacy. The window of this room offers a beautiful view on Mount Etna. The lower level has a cosy TV room with sofas and a fireplace. From the modern kitchen there is access to the terrace and the well tended garden with BBQ.

Suitability:
  • long term rentals available

About Giulia Lattanzio / Lenneke Burghouts

We have been with Homeaway since 2006, proposing houses that are able to unfold Sicily's colours and charm at best.

Houses with quality furnishing in unique locations, with incredible views or with a pool, always accurately selected in order to satisfy our main wish: to see you falling in love with Sicily just like we did.

We provide you with transparent information and true pictures. What you see is exactly what you get. We will advise you as much as we can about travel info, transfers and car rental.

Dinners in villas and other extra services can also be arranged. Finally, our prices are final rates! There are no hidden additional costs. We are flexible with your arrivals and departures and if you need a late check-in this is usually possible.

Thoughtful welcome

  • 5 of 5

We arrived as a family of 6 late on a Sunday night to a thoughtful welcome from the owners. This house had everything we needed and had been finished with pride. All the little extras were there. The garden was lovely and would be an easy place to spend more time.

The neighbourhood is friendly and the house felt safe. All your basic needs were covered locally, and a large supermarket was in San Giovanni la Punta (easy to access by car). Parking behind the gate is a challenge, and we couldn't do it with our van, but street parking was easy.

It was a good base to use as a base to explore the sights of Sicily. There are a few noisy dogs in the area, and of course the early church bells (like all of Italy!), and these did affect our sleep a little - but maybe we sleep a little lightly.

I would recommend this as a place to stay, and would happily return.

Amazing property..

  • 4 of 5

The property has all the charm of the old wine press and the convenience of the contemporary and sensitive restoration. Its a great location for day trips to the surrounding areas and it is only a short walk to the square with lots of shops, There are quite a few good restaurants close by as well

I would have given the property 5 stars except one 0f the beds is actually a quite uncomfortable hideabed.

Driving in the area is challenging at first because the signage is pretty erratic but a gps would help.

Beautiful and unusual house in friendly town

  • 5 of 5

This is a very special house - a quite wonderful conversion of an old winery, brilliantly blending the old and the new. It has a lovely garden and every modern feature that you could hope for. Trecastagni is a friendly town which gradually reveals its considerable charms, all just a very short walk from the house. Highly recommended.

Remarkably stunning!!

  • 5 of 5

The villa is in a beautiful location with exquisite views of Mt. Etna. It is within walking distance of the supermercato, the fruit and vegetable store and the meat and cheese market. It is also in a good location for a day trip to Taormina, Aci Trezza, Villa Romano de Casale and a bus trip to Catania. The locale merchants are very gracious and helpful and alittle bit of Italian goes a long way!!. The villa is also spacious and well equipped. We enjoyed the gardens where oranges, chestnuts and lemons were growing. Be sure to go to the piazza and see the fountain and also walk to St. Alfio's church. Driving somewhat nerve wracking, at times, to and from the small towns to the autostrada. Otherwise, overall a wonderful stay for us. Thank you to Francesca and Sara. Grazie Mille. Property was amazing.....only thing that spoiled it was dogs barking through the night.

  • 5 of 5

The winery was gorgeous....Trescastagni was a friendly town with some lovely eateries. We particularly liked the Tapas bar.....chilli beef to die for. Lavico bar and eatery was great too......lovely black charcoal flour pizza and Prosecco on tap at 12 euros a litre. The garden was outstanding too, best equipped holiday let I have ever stayed in.

Sleek and functional

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 5 weeks here in Feb. and March 2016 in order to escape the bleak and gray winters of Umbria. We wanted to have some private time for writing, a central place for touring and an accommodating place to house guests. This property provided all of that.

The property managers were extremely responsive, helpful and provided excellent recommendations in town. The town of Trecastagni is used to visitors going to Mt. Etna and yet it is away from the bustling tourist life. We particularly enjoyed Acireale, a Baroque town near by and Ortigia. We have had a wonderful winter stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you Susan! You described beautifully how alive and authentic the town of Trecastagni is, even in low season. Hope to hear from you again.

The village of Trecastagni, perched on the south-eastern flanks of fascinating Mount Etna, is a perfect gateway to exploring not only the looming volcano but also its many interesting towns and villages. There are a great number of excellent walks in the area and many very good restaurants. Coming down from the mountain there are many visits to be made: Taormina, Catania, the Alcantara Gorge and, slightly further afield, Siracusa.
