Photos and Description of this Basye-Bryce Mountain holiday chalet

3 Bdrm, 3 Full Baths, 3 levels, and Large Family Room, sleeps 8-10

No better place than The Sticks for your family or couples' retreat. Two bedrooms on main floor (one queen, one full bed).Upstairs is a third bedroom (queen) and private bath.Large rec room on lower level has a queen pullout bed for extra space.View the sunset over North Mountain from either deck, or the stars in our telescope w/ no city lights. 'The Sticks' provides roomy comfort for two families. Large dining room table and well-appointed kitchen and linens. Shenandoah Valley offers peace and quiet, fresh air and endless views. Historic points of interest include nearby Skyline Drive, Orkney Springs, bike trails, and various caving adventures.. There's so much to do. Or, do nothing at all. It's up to you when you're at 'The Sticks'. We now offer WiFi and Showtime on TV.

Views: The views from the two wrap-around decks are fabulous. The decks are situated in a way to provide stunning sunsets with the North Mountain as the backdrop. Feel free to use the telescope (3 inch Bushnell Newtonian) to view the stars against the black background of space. Or gain a close-up of North Mountain. Scenic drives are fun along the country roads within the Valley. The Fall offers wonderful picture perfect views of the fall colors from either balcony.

Surroundings: The home is situated on the mountain side with enough land (double lot) ,that the neighbors are barely visible. It's a short haul to Bryce Resort and a short walk to Lake Laura where hiking and mountain biking trails abound.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We came from Boston, Virginia, Maryland , and DC to enjoy a weekend of yoga ,dancing, ping pong, singing , kayaking, tanning lakeside, hiking, and "Titantic". Beer flowed, the grill was fired-up, and thank you for letting us rent your place.

Long weekend in June

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at The Sticks for a long weekend at the end of June. We rented it at the "last minute" and the owners were very responsive in handling our request. The directions provided were excellent, and we found the home with no problem. Having never been to the area, we enjoyed the location central (a couple minutes drive to both, it's walkable to the Lake but not with the kids, it was too hilly for them) to the summer amenities of Lake Laura and the Bryce resort where we tried the paddle boats, golf, and grass tubing. Resort was pretty much empty, very easy to get a tee time, and patake in the summer offerings. The house was very comfortable and homey, great selection of books and magazines. Beds were comfy, bathrooms were clean. The telescope was amazing. The kids really enjoyed the ping pong and bumper pool, great for a rainy afternoon. Kitchen was pretty well stocked with utensils, dishes, etc. Very nice place for the price. We may return for the ski season!

Awesome get away!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at The Sticks. The house is fully equipped with all of the essentials and ample space for my family of 7. Kids really enjoyed the bumper pool table, ping pong and exploring in the woods. The location of The Sticks is perfect! Close enough to Bryce Resort for skiing and tubing, yet nestled in private wooded scenery. Booking was very easy and the owners were very helpful with the check in/out process. We definitely want to come back soon!

Great spot!

  • 5 of 5

Myself and four friends really enjoyed the Sticks. It's close to the main Bryce Resort area, nestled in the woods, and the road nearby is great for hiking. The house was cozy, warm and had lots of space. We really liked the bumper pool and ping pong in the basement. I would love to come back sometime!

The view was beautiful!!!

  • 4 of 5

My plan was to start having Christmas away and this was the 1st annual vacation. I want to say that the house was exactly how it looks in the pictures. I love the fact that it was very spacious and has a bathroom on every level. It was a very cozy cabin house. Now, it could use a little upgrading such as the TV and the fact that there is no TV in the rooms. We relied on our tablets and phones a lot. The weather was not working on our side so we could not do the winter activities which left us with the use of technology. Of course it did not take away from the experience of staying at the "Sticks" we still made the best of our time there. We enjoyed the ping pong table a lot. We could not figure out how to play the other game/pool although we read the directions twice. Also, we arrived at night, that was not a good idea. PLEASE ARRIVE IN THE DAYTIME. It is pitch black in those mountains. It was a little difficult to pull up in the drive way. I do not have a truck but after several attempts we finally made it.

I would definitely stay here again!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you Saleemah. I just had a chance to see your review. I always encourage people to come in the daylight, but it is difficult in the winter. Part of the charm of a mountain getaway of course, is to be away from city lights. So happy you enjoyed it. the Onsteds
