Photos and Description of this Lake Lure holiday cabin

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms/2.5 bath/Sleeps 9

Our cozy, log cabin, 'Camp-View Cabin ', was built Oct. 2004. It is still neat and clean; it looks new. It has lodge-style decor, and is set in a wooded neighborhood, with Lake Lure access. The open swim area is located a short walk (or drive) down a gravel road and past a quaint waterfall. There you will find a beautiful setting with docks, picnic tables, lounge chairs, and a kayak rack that holds two kayaks for your use.

The cabin is located 3 miles from the shopping towns of Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. The dramatic Rocky Broad River flows alongside the town, where you can enjoy restaurants and shops, including an old general store, full of mountain-sytle gifts. Chimney Rock Park is right there in town (check out their website.)

Within an hour are such spots as Historic Hendersonville, culture-rich Asheville (home of the Biltmore Estate, The Grove Park Inn and Spa, and the Blue Ridge Parkway). Sliding Rock, many waterfalls, and hiking trails are also around the area for the nature lover.

Camp-View Cabin is located on property that was once a 100-acre youth camp, with its borders on one of the most scenic parts of Lake Lure. The rock-faced Rumbling Bald Mountains rise toward heaven from the meadow on the west side of 'camp', and can be seen from the window in our cozy loft.

In addition to the commonly seen fish, turtles, ducks, and squirrel, are deer and wild turkey, which roam freely in the camp. On rare occasion you may spot a raccoon, fox, bobcat or even a bear.

This cabin was built in 2004, with a vision that people might come here to escape the busy life back home and have time to enjoy the simple things - love, relationships, and God's beautiful creation. Enjoy!

About Randy and Beth Dillon

My wife and I moved to the Asheville area in 1992. We adore the mountains so much, that we decided to build a log home at the lake. We loved it so much that we could not share this alone. Our kids enjoy the lake during the summer months. We like to hike, camp, and bike as a family. This neighborhood where the cabin is located is great for all of these outdoor events. We know you will love our cabin as much as we do. Take care, Randy, Beth, Jared and Kaleigh.

Why Randy and Beth Dillon chose Asheville Area

This property was once a youth camp. It has many features that bring back that feeling of being at 'camp'. Some of the orignial buildings are still there (the horse barn, the mess hall, the recreation hall, and some of the cabins). The swim area is wide-open and beautiful. It is set back just a bit from the big open lake and is a nicer place to swim and lay on the raft than places right on the lake, where the boats or going by. There is a floating dock in the middle, so people can swim out, jump and dive off, or sit and enjoy the beauty from there.

We rented this cabin for Thanksgiving, 07. The cabin is nicely decorated and immaculate. It exceeded our expectations. We were celebrating some milestones plus Thanksgiving, and all went perfectly. They supply paper products and condiments and I loved having the instructions on everything to put us at ease. The fireplace is wonderful and helps with the atmosphere. Rent with confidence.

Wonderful Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent two nights at the Camp View Cabin and loved it. The owners' communication was efficent and accurate -- from the time we made the booking to the time we were leaving. They also left a handy book of instructions and recommendations for places to eat and explore in the area. The cabin was everything we hoped for -- comfortable, quiet, well-equipped, and pleasant. We made the short drive (possible downhill walk and uphill return) to Lake Lure several times. The water access was wonderful and was probably our favorite part of our stay. There was a boat ramp, and parking, swimming, and covered picnic areas. We were there mid-week, and only a few "neighbors" joined us. We spent one summer morning hiking around Chimney Rock State Park, and we highly recommend that adventure for anyone who loves the outdoors. The park has an impressive set of paths and stairways that take you from one vista area to another, and there is a gift/snack shop at the top of Chimney Rock itself. The engineering of the steel and wood walkways that are built around overhanging granite cliffs is as interesting as the views of Lake Lure that can be seen from the top of Chimney Rock. My husband and I spent our 13th wedding anniversary in August in this very home-like log-cabin. We hope to return next summer. Our time there exceeded our expecations. And, next time, we hope to stay longer.

Delightful Cabin - Warm and welcoming

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this cabin for three days and were enchanted by its warm character. This cabin is decorated beautifully, full of rustic charm with lots of delightful artistic touches by the owners. You at once feel at home. On a practical side, it has everything you will need for your stay. The place was spotless and everything functioned perfectly. This kitchen is fully equipped with everything you may need. The kitchen comes stocked with the essential basics, such as sugar, salt, and oil etc. So if you do forget something, chances are you will find what you are looking for. The iced glasses in the refrigerator were a welcome addition on a hot day!

The welcome folder tells you all you need to know and the cove, where you can swim and Kayak from is only a five minute walk away down a shaded track. The local residents were really friendly and one invited us to join them. We did not use the Kayaks which you can use with this rental but saw them in the rack. We never needed to call the owners but they left their contact details readily available. We hope to return in the future.

Wonderful Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Family stayed 5 days at this wonderful cabin in the woods. It's as advertsised and not at all overhyped. Extremely clean, inviting cabin decor, fully equipped, and having super front and back porch/deck. The short walk to the Lake is no impediment at all and one can drive too if a lot of gear. We weren't there over a weekend but during the week, we literally had the whole Lake area to ourselves. Caught a few fish, kayaked, and swam. Saw lots of herons and what we think may have been an eagle with a fish in tow. Majestic pileated woodpeckers too.

Don't leave out Chimney Rock State Park. If you can do the 500 or so steps (elevator out), it is definitely worth it. Try the fairly easy Falls Trail too, to see a 400 footer.

The owners are very responsive to any questions or unlikely problems you may encounter.

This was a great vacation in a great spot. We hope to return.

Great place to spend a week!

  • 5 of 5

Randy and Beth have done a great job with this unique mountain lake cabin! It is everything you could ever want for a week getaway. Everything is at your fingertips, kitchen is very complete with all you could need and clear instructions are provided for everything. Three bedrooms and 21/2 baths plus a loft reading and relaxing area assures everyone's comfort and privacy. We are two senior couples who travel all we can and this is one of the best places we have stayed. We took our own Kayaks but two are available for you to use there. Great rest restaurants nearby. Don"t miss La Strada or Larkin's on the Lake. Food is outstanding in both! Highly recommend the Lake tour by pontoon boat. Thank You Randy and Beth for making such a great place available! This is what makes traveling so enjoyable!

Beautiful Property in a Quiet Neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week in this beautiful place and enjoyed it very much. It was very well stocked with cookware and provided many extra things to use such as picnic coolers and jackets that you might have forgotten. It was just a short walk away from the lake and kayaks were available to explore. Everything was wonderful!
