Francesco purchased this villa in 1988
This is my grandparent's house; I love it and I like to welcome people here.
The incredible view. Boat house and direct access to the Lake. Private parking and garden, bocce camp.
Villa Leonardo was such an amazing vacation home. The Villa is tucked away in a very private spot directly on the water with an spectacular view. To our surprise the villa had beautiful gardens with a Bocce Court…which we used every day! Argengno is a beautiful village that is within walking distance of the home. Very convenient for breakfast or lunch if you do not want to drive.
Francesco was beyond accommodating. He lined up a boat rental for the week, hikes for us to do during the visit and tips on the best restaurants and villages. He was very responsive on any requests we had and a joy to work with.
I would highly recommend this home to any guest that is planning a Lake Como holiday.
What an amazing property! Francesco could not have been more gracious and helpful. From having food in the kitchen when we arrived to getting us reservations for a boat ride, he was fantastic.
We were a group of 8 women who were on holiday and stayed for 5 nights and 4 days. I wish we could have stayed for a month. The home itself is an architectural experience. Lovely gardens, beautifully manicured grounds, curved moldings and doors throughout add to the charm of this immaculately cared for home. The huge villas on the lake have NOTHING on this property. We're all trying to figure out when we can go back.
We were a group of three couples and were very happy with this villa - as I said above its very 70s inside but none the worse for that. Beds comfy - kitchen small but well stocked and Francesco left us a nice welcome pack of food. Warm house with central heating if you need it
Francesco who will meet you is part of the owning family and is an absolute star - nothing is too much trouble. I hope we didn't trouble him much except to ask if he could arrange for the owner of the restaurant along the lakeside to pick us up on his boat. Unfortunately the boat was broken - so Francesco arranged for a friend to pick us up and take us on his speedboat - very classy Francesco. He insisted we not pay as the owner owned him a favour - we did pay him of course
The restaurant mentioned is excellent as is the Piazetta in Aregno
Once at the villa you can abandon cars - east stroll to town. Busy road for 200 metres then cross road and up hill and first right for nice path to town with great views. First shop you come to is deeply good local baker with other essentials. No big shop in Argegno so if self catering come off road into Como on way - you can certainly get enough for breakfasts locally and plenty choice for eating out rest of time
Ferry port in Argegno 16 euros for a day pass on central lake
We would happily go back and hope to!
Our family spent about five days at this lovely home. Francesco is a very warm and welcoming host. He greeted us at the house with a wonderful basket of local Italian goodies as a welcome package and was quite helpful with local activities. He also checked up on us during our stay to ensure that everything was perfect. The villa offers a unique, elegant, and private lake front experience of Lake Como. The grounds are a lovely bucolic and private retreat to relax and play. The villa is also a very short walk away from the beautiful village of Argegno with its typical Italian cafe's and restaurant. Everyone of our family members truly enjoyed their stay and we will certainly be back again. We would highly recommend this lovely villa and Francesco.
My (adult) daughter and I stayed at Villa La Ruga for 6 weeks, from mid September to the end of October. The weather was still mostly sunny and warm during the day but getting colder at night. We dealt exclusively with the owner's son, Francesco Rimoldi. He was extremely attentive, without being intrusive. The villa was well located, down a steep drive that looked more daunting than it actually was (even in the occasional torrential rain), and right on the lake. Multiple doors from the living room and kitchen to the terrace maximized this proximity and the panoramic views were stunning. The villa has a boathouse which we did not make use of, but which also provided lake access for swimming although, by then, it was a bit too cold for us. Apparently, the terrace also works well as a diving platform! The villa was fully equipped for a comfortable and convenient stay. The location is excellent - about 75 minutes drive from Malpensa Airport and about 20 minutes from Como. Argegno is about a minute's drive away, where La Piazetta is highly recommended for a pizza lunch, or for an authentic Italian dinner.
Our 2015 Europe trip started with lake Como and staying at Villa La Ruga was probably the highlight of our trip we stay there three days, we were meant by Francesco and he was a perfect Host, gave us all the instructions to the house and the area and we had Chef Umberto cooking dinner for us each day we were there. It was a perfect three days we relax, drink Vino and ate great food. I highly recommend staying there a week, three days was not enough.
