My husband and I stayed in the Calypso with our five children in June 2017. This apartment was perfect!! We loved staying in Grand Case, a mix of residential and commercial properties on the beach, in the French side of the island! We loved it because we were completely immersed in the local culture!!! We want to live as a local when we travel and that is why we loved this rental!! Out the back door you walk paces to the beautiful uncrowded beach!! Out the front door you walk paces to an out door cafe serving fresh croissant and the best Cafe au lait I have ever had!! The entire strip is filled with restaurants and bars and petit hotels!! There are two Grocery stores right across the way!! We felt completely safe and had no concerns at all. We are already planning to return again next year. During our stay we traveled the entire island swimming and sampling all the various beaches and for swimming we all agree the beach in front of the Calypso is the best!! We were on the beach all day, only steps from our residence and all of its amenities!! The apartment itself has everything you need and is very comfortable!! Because we have five children we utilized the kitchen eating many meals in the apartment. The kitchen has everything, including a dishwasher,!,, one night we brought live lobsters and had a lovely lobster dinner on the veranda watching the sunset. Washing machine also came in handy and is a must for me when I travel!!

About the noise here is my take: we chose this location because our children range in age from 23 to 15. In my opinion being located between two beach bars was a plus! I felt safe allowing my children to go to the bars and not have to drive home. They literally walked out our back door and onto the deck of the Rainbow restaurant!! My husband and I closed the metal hurricane shutters and that did drown out the noise!! IThe music was only loud Sunday and Monday nites. It wasn't bad and the positives out weighed the negatives!! Because there were seven of us we rented two Jeep Wranglers for the week! We parked one right on the street in front of our residence with no issues!! There was always a spot! The second one we parked in the Calypso parking garage.

In the morning I ran Grand Case Boulevard for my morning run. It is the perfect length for me!

We ate three nites at the Lolo's. open air BBQ restaurant a few doors down from the Calypso! The food is great grilled ribs chicken and fish! The beer is cold!

Wonderful. Fine french food. Casual dress. Back deck is on the beach!

We have stayed in the Calypso penthouse twice now, most recently Jan 2017. The apartment is on the top two levels of the building. You need a key to enter the building's front door, a key to operate the elevator, and an access code for the back door. It is secure.

The apartment has two bedrooms on the main floor, one with an ensuite bath, and the other with the bath just outside it's door. A third bedroom is up a flight of stairs. The upstairs also has an ensuite bath and an additional living area. The living area downstairs is comfortable and recently refurnished. The apt has wifi.

The kitchen is small, but has everything you will need. Refrigerator, stove, oven, dishwasher and washing machine (my favorite!) blender, wine gear.. The dining room seats 6, and there is additional dinning space on the balcony. The apt is clean and modern.

Linens including beach towels are also provided. If you get a car, you can park it in the underground parking- but you need to rent one with high clearance of the bumpers. The entrance is a steep incline. However, you do not need a car. Grocers and bakers are a 6 buildings away, nice restaurants line the Blvd, inexpensive BBQ stands are just down the street, and cabs are available and reliable.

I have never felt uncomfortable walking through Grand Case.

The beach out the back door has 7-10 steps (front door does too). Then you are on the sand. Rainbow Cafe is on one side and Frenchy's is on the other. We eat at Rainbow often, so we use their chairs (free w purchase), but the apt has 4 chaises too.

Food and drinks are excellent and I adore the staff at Rainbow. The beach has a gentle slope and no waves. Oc4, rents kayaks and paddle boards from Rainbow. Great snorkeling is a short boat ride/kayAk trip away at Creole Rock.

Some nights restaurants have loud music. I can be a grumpy old lady, and it hasn't bothered me. But I am not the type to go to bed at 8pm.

I have spent a lot of time on island. I haven't found anywhere that does not take American dollars, and $=€ in most places. You may get local currency back for coins. English is widely spoken.

Part of me is reluctant to tell you about this little slice of heaven, but I would be happy if you enjoy it as much as we do!

Ideal beachfront location, lovely designed condo, excellent value...

We just returned from a week in the Calypso top floor unit on Grand Case beach in St. Martin. The owner / manager Christophe was great at communicating how to gain access and depart from the nicely designed, spacious unit. The in town location was SO convenient to excellent restaurants, live music and shopping options. Do you it's an active area... a few of our group of 6 thought it was loud on a few evening (from nearby bars and restaurants). I loved it! I've been to the Caribbean over 30 times.... this is without a doubt one of my favorite places to stay.

We loved our stay at the Calypso penthouse. The booking process with Sophie was very easy and she answered all my questions beforehand. We were 3 couples that stayed for a week in October, 2016. We were met by Christopher at the location and were shown around the villa and were given the keys to the place. The Penthouse was gorgeous with 3 king bedrooms, each with their own bathrooms. It had everything we needed from pots and pans to towels. And the view of the sea was amazing. It does get loud at night from the party next door at Rainbow Cafe, but that did not bother us at all. We had a wonderful time and would most definitely recommend this place. Can't wait to come back.

Wonderful Residence

We absolutely loved our July 2016 stay in the 3 bedrooms, 3 baths Calypso penthouse.

The building is located between 2 restaurant/beach bars. At night can be noisy; it was not a problem for us. They close by 2am. We are a family with two 17-yo boys and felt safe. The building’s front door opens with a key, back door with a key code, and an elevator key is needed to get to your apartment. The parking garage is narrow and steep. If you get a car, get one with a high clearance, or you will scrape its bumpers. A car is not a necessity. The beach is out the door, the markets and bakeries are just 4 or 5 buildings away, restaurants line the street.

The apartment is very well appointed, updated and very clean. I was very pleased! It says it can sleep 6, but would still be comfortable with more. It is not a small space by any means.

The baths are comfortably large with showers; towels provided. The master has a hairdryer and scale. The bedrooms are also very spacious. Linens are provided, but can be a bit scratchy if you get sunburned. Leave sandy shoes by the elevator, sweep with the broom often to keep from getting sand everywhere, especially in the bed.

The downstairs living area has a large flat screen TV; most channels are in French. The Wi-Fi is good enough to work from. The balcony is very large. It can be accessed through the living or the master. It has a 4-6 person dining table and 2 chaise lounges.

Air-conditioning is by area with individual remote controlled units. I’m a hot person and was comfortable the whole time. When leaving for the day, we closed the shutters to conserve temps.

The kitchen has everything you could want, but you are in a culinary wonderland so take advantage of the many excellent restaurants all within a 15-minute slow walk from your door. There is a large fridge, cooktop, microwave, dishwasher, washer (no dryer), coffee pot, soaps. We didn’t use much, but when we needed something it was there. We bought snacks, wine, water etc from the market around the corner- maybe 30 yards. Washing machine was a bonus.

Out the back door is a deck, and then about 10 stairs to the sand/beach area. The beach is very clean. There were 6 beach towels provided when we stayed.

Christophe met us at the apt showed us how to work the safe, elevator, keys, codes, and everything else. He left his cell number if we needed anything.

We have booked this again since our initial stay. It will be our home away from home on St. Martin.

Beautiful, comfortable apartment with gorgeous views

We loved our stay here. Every bedroom has a really comfortable king bed with its own bathroom. The views are phenomenal and panoramic. Pretty beach is right outside the elevator, so going up and down is quick. Easy to walk around the corner to supermarket and a great french bakery every morning for fresh croissants or delicious sandwiches on french baguettes for lunch. Lots of superb restaurants in walking distance, and we always felt safe. Christopher, the apartment manager, was very helpful anytime we needed anything. It was so convenient to have restaurant/bars on either side of us. Both Michael at Capt. Frenchy's and John at Rainbow were happy to serve us drinks and/or lunch on the chairs with umbrellas that sat out front. The waitress at Rainbow even brought our frozen drinks up to our room for us when we first arrived and were bringing up the bags! If you are six people, a Ford Explorer is a good bet--it fits in garage if you drive in verrrry slowly. It may take a few swings to get it in the space, but really nice to have free parking right there. Yes, there was a late-night party one night that was loud, but they give you the option to come to it, each with a free drink, or they will provide a free breakfast. My teen and young adult daughters loved the party and danced on the beach! Two other nights there was a singer (drag show) until 11, but it was quiet otherwise. We did bring some earplugs, so it was not a problem for us. This apartment is such a great value. To have a luxurious three bedroom suite right on the beach for the price of one luxury hotel room is amazing. Great place for a family reunion as you can rent the lower floors too. There is a washer but no dryer, so takes a day for your laundry to dry. You will be happier if you bring one spare towel for each person.
