About Christel Walter
We raised our family of two sons and a daughter on Long Island but consider ourselves Southerners since we ourselves grew up in the southern part of Germany. Gardening and baking bread, woodworking, weaving and keeping bees, gathering wild berries and mushrooms are some of our hobbies. Making music and volunteering add meaning to our days. Our grand children love to visit exploring the woods and creeks, climbing trees, picking berries and hiking the trails.
Christel Walter purchased this Cabin in 2014
Why Christel Walter chose Mill Spring
Although we purchased "Lokichante," our guest cabin, only in 2014 we have lived and still live up the hill. The property with our permanent home was purchased in the 1970s and our dream to retire here came true in 2002. We are very familiar with the area and the recreational resources available. We love hiking and all things nature, enjoy the arts and crafts scene and the community. Our property is in close proximity to the Tryon International Equestrian Center, Chimney Rock State Park, Lake Lure with public beach, zip lining, tubing, white water rafting, tennis, golfing and fishing
What makes this Cabin unique
Conservation is our passion. In his book "Bringing Nature Home" Doug Tallamy describes how people and the natural world are all connected. The credo of conservation is to let nature be in charge. We clear fallen trees and remove poison ivy along the trails, try to eradicate invasive species and encourage habitat for native flora and fauna. Although our cabin has all the modern amenities such as TV, cable and WiFi we encourage our guests to untether, especially the children, engage their senses and take advantage of all this unique property has to offer. Once it was giant chestnut trees that dominated the forests of North America. Our cabin bears witnesses to this bygone era. After a day at the equestrian center or spending time at all kinds of local attractions what could be more relaxing than watching the sun set while rocking on the porch and listening to a frog concert.
