About Larry and Mary

We have lived in North Hero for over 30 years. Mary is a school teacher for the last 25 years and currently teaches in South Burlington VT. I'm an airline pilot flying the B-787 as a Captain in the international route structure doing Pacfic and Atlantic flights.

I'm also an avid Sea Plane pilot and own one. We do trips to out of the way waterfront overnights, restaurants and day trips.

When we vacation we usually rent homes that we find through Homeaway. This has allowed us to be on both sides of renting a vacation home for a week. We have tried to add and design what we would want into our vacation homes. Please check out our other property which is listed in the notes. #4079165

We also enjoy meeting those we rent to and have made many new friends and look forward to making many more.

Larry and Mary purchased this house in 2006

Why Larry and Mary chose North Hero

The property has a unique peaceful setting with nature.

This setting provides many opportunities to view many types of wildlife depending on the season and allows spectacular fishing from shore. If your a bird watcher, there are Bald Eagles, Osprey, Red Tail Hawks, Loons & Blue Herons and many smaller birds that can be seen.

Kids can catch frogs and follow turtles!

What makes this house unique

The property has a boat launch on the property and is nicely protected from the wind for docking boats.

Bass fishermen can be seen in their boats visiting some of the best bass fishing spots just off our shoreline.

It is also at the end of a private road!

A Fire Pit that overlooks the lake that you will not forget the experience. Please check our Fire Pit pictures.

There is a large room downstairs that serves as one of the bedrooms. There is also a Foosball table, small table and couch for two in this room. The room also opens to the outside with a sliding glass door. This is a Great room for Kids! The house has two levels with 2 bedrooms and a bath upstairs and 2 bedrooms with a bath downstairs. This makes it family friendly to have the adults upstairs and children downstairs. It also makes it friendly for two couples to share the house with having their own floor. The boat launch will accomadate up to about 18ft boats. Water levels during the year from high to low dictate its sutiabilty along with the type of boat and trailer. Plenty of room on property to park your boat trailer(s) ***Dogs.....we do accept dogs on a case by case review. Normally we accept one dog but will consider two. The cost is $150 each. Please include information on your request about your dog. Breed, weight and age would be appreciated. We are dog owners!!

best rental ever!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful house! We weren't sure when we saw it on the website, but when we got there we knew the web didn't do it justice! Absolutely beautiful home. Wonderful, private and room for everyone. We always go with our in-laws and my sister-in-law is very critical about every rental. But she loved it and loved that their family could use the downstairs just like their own apartment! We've rented before but never had such a great experience. The owner is so accomodating and the house has nothing lacking. So clean you could eat off the floors. We went at a bad time of the year, September, and it rained and was windy most of the time, but we didn't care. The house was so comfortable all we did was relax, just what a vacation SHOULD BE. We loved it so much that we are doing 2 weeks next year, early summer and hope to go back again in the fall. Love it! Love it! Love it! Even friends who saw the pictures when we came home said it looked like a great place. Thank you for letting us become one of your renters.

Great Lake Champlain Experiece

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Larry and Mary’s house so much in 2012 that we returned last year. We take a fishing trip every year, but never before stayed at the same place twice.

The house is clean and roomy. The washer and dryer allow us to cut way down on the clothes we would normally pack. The country ramp in front of the house is perfect for launching the boat. The new dock Larry put in is much improved. I was able to keep boat in the water the entire trip and never worried about it getting banged up.

We particularly liked the location on the Alburg Passage. It’s a short run to all the hot spots like the Inland Sea, Gull Island and Horseshoe Shoal. It’s protected so we can still fish even when the rest of the lake is blowing up.

On land, all the amenities are nearby. The North Hero House is an excellent restaurant. A&B Beverage carries everything you need including fishing tackle. I understand there are hiking trails and golf nearby, but the fishing is so good, we were seldom off the water.

I highly recommend Larry and Mary’s house if you really want to enjoy Lake Champlain!

We love Lake Champlain and our stay with Larry & Mary was fantastic! A great location for fishing, boating, long walks, biking or just sitting by the fire in the evening. The home is a beautiful and comfortable place for a getaway.. away from traffic with lots of privacy. The Duponts are very hospitable and accommodating. We will be back!

Best vacation rental out there!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, our 3 children (ages: 3, 16 months, and 5 months), our dog, and I stayed here for a week at the end of August. We had the best stay! The weather was beautiful all week, with the exception of 1 very windy day. The house is beautiful and extremely clean (I'm very picky about cleanliness). The kitchen is stocked with everything that you could ever need to make a great meal! The view of the lake from the deck is great! Our boys really liked to watch the boats, jet skis, and sea planes taking off during the day. We enjoyed having fires and making Smores with our boys at night. There was plenty of wood on the premises. Our 3 year old really liked to skip rocks and watch all of the frogs down on the shore line, so much so that he's still talking about it a month later! Larry is very accomodating and easy to work with! The only complaint we had was that we had to come home!!! We had a terrific stay and can't wait to come back again!

Wonderful house for our two families.

  • 4 of 5

This house was great for my husband and me with our son, daughter-in-law and their 2 little ones. The arrangement of the downstairs and upstairs bedrooms and the 2 bathrooms worked well, allowing my son's family a lot of space and privacy downstairs. The house is modern and lovely, with beautiful large windows and a big deck overlooking the lake. The kitchen is well equipped, although the space is small for storing groceries, but we figured it out. The dock area is spacious for boats. We loved the fire pit! The beach area is slate and the water is not deep. Our one concern was that this part of the lake is dense with invasive weeds (not the fault of the owners of this property - it's a problem in this northern reach of Champlain). For good fishing you may want a boat to take you to deeper water. We drove to a sandy beach recommended by the owners. It's clean, very family-friendly, shallow and gradual - great swimming for kids and adults (no weeds). We enjoyed that beach very much. Thank you Larry and Mary for a fun and comfortable stay in your lovely house!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Happy to hear that your family had a great stay with us. Late in the season depending on the summer we do get some weeds. This year you happened to be at the peak time. Spring through the 1st of August is usually not a concern. Fishing from shore during this time is usually great for kids and adults. This portion of Lake Champlain is some of the best bass fishing around. Please consider joining us again. Enjoyed meeting and chatting with everyone!
