About Larry and Mary

We have lived in North Hero for over 30 years. Mary is a school teacher for the last 25 years and currently teaches in South Burlington VT. I'm an airline pilot flying the B-767 currently in the international route structure.

I'm also an avid Sea Plane pilot and own one.

When we vacation we usually rent homes that we find through Homeaway. This has allowed us to be on both sides of renting a vacation home for a week. We have tried to add and design what we would want into our vacation homes. Please check out our other property which is listed in the notes.

We also enjoy meeting those we rent to and have made many new friends and look forward to making many more.

Larry and Mary purchased this house in 2006

Why Larry and Mary chose Lake Champlain Islands

The property has a unique peaceful setting with nature.

This setting provides many opportunities to view many types of wildlife depending on the season and allows spectacular fishing from shore.

What makes this house unique

The property has a boat launch on the property and is nicely protected from the wind for docking boats.

Bass fishermen can be seen in their boats visiting some of the best bass fishing spots just off our shoreline.

It is also at the end of a private road!

A Fire Pit that overlooks the lake that you will not forget the experience. Please check our Fire Pit pictures.

best rental ever!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful house! We weren't sure when we saw it on the website, but when we got there we knew the web didn't do it justice! Absolutely beautiful home. Wonderful, private and room for everyone. We always go with our in-laws and my sister-in-law is very critical about every rental. But she loved it and loved that their family could use the downstairs just like their own apartment! We've rented before but never had such a great experience. The owner is so accomodating and the house has nothing lacking. So clean you could eat off the floors. We went at a bad time of the year, September, and it rained and was windy most of the time, but we didn't care. The house was so comfortable all we did was relax, just what a vacation SHOULD BE. We loved it so much that we are doing 2 weeks next year, early summer and hope to go back again in the fall. Love it! Love it! Love it! Even friends who saw the pictures when we came home said it looked like a great place. Thank you for letting us become one of your renters.

Nice place

  • 5 of 5

We are 5 fisherman who find this place very convenient and fills all our needs for a fair price. The launch is really handy and the owner lives next door but gives us our privacy during our stay. Nice deck and interior. Only thing we would like to see is electric by the docks so we would not have to run 300 ft of elec cords to charge the trolling motor batteries. Would recommend.

Owner's Response: Appreciate the review and kind words. As you know many bass fisherman consider an area just off our shoreline, one of their favorite hot spots! We try to do enhancements each year with our proprieties. We also try to balance new enhancements with trying to keep the cost affordable for our renters. Bringing power to the shoreline for our many repeat fishing groups is a priority in future enhancements. See you next year!

Best Rental We Have Ever Had!

  • 5 of 5

We have been vacationing as a family for four years. Our group includes my children (ages 2 and 4), my brother and fiance, and my parents. This home was the very best we have ever stayed in.

We arrived to find it cleaned wonderfully and stocked beyond belief. Most places we have stayed offered a "stocked kitchen" for us to find it included two pans and a few place settings. For this reason, I have created our vacation tub with all of the items you would normally use in the kitchen. This was the first place where I didn't need anything from my tub! We also brought our own pillows not knowing what to expect, but everything from beds to comforters to pillows were nice and new. The grill and porch furniture were excellent as well.

The layout was great for young and old. My father had his hips replaced and found the gentle slope of the land very easy to manage. The children and I loved the yard between the house and water. We also enjoyed time in the shallow water on the edge of the property and fishing from the dock. We must admit, the fire pit was the perfect place to have s'mores. Being at the end of the private road was also convenient as it was very quiet and secluded.

The fishermen and women from our group enjoyed limiting out each day on bass and pike. Our beautiful weather and close proximity to boat fuel made multiple trips easy. The ample dock space was perfect for our two boats. We also enjoyed launching them right from the property.

Above all, our host, Larry was very friendly and offered advise for fishing and local attractions. We were even invited to his personal picnic! It was a joy to watch him take his plane out from the end of the property as well.

We enjoyed our time at Lake Champlain and hope to return again someday. When we return, we will base our stay on the availability of this rental as it was by far, the best we have ever stayed in!

Owner's Response: Paul, appreciate the note! We always enjoy seeing your group show up in the spring. Your usually part of the kick off for our rental season. Fishing has become more of an attraction in this area of lake Champlain. In the last few years fishing has become so good that multiple professional Bass tournaments are now held here. See you in the spring!

Great property!

  • 5 of 5

The main purpose of this stay for me this time visiting the "islands" was a fishing weekend. I trailered my 17 foot power boat up. The boat ramp on the property was easy to use and launching the boat was a pleasure. Sooooo nice to be able to launch and store the boat directly from the property.

The house was immaculately clean when we arrived. It's a great layout and everything we needed as far as kitchen supplies and grill was provided and operational. Larry called before I arrived to give me the "scoop" on the house and property and he represented the amenities 100% accurate with a warning that the lake levels are a bit low so launching might be a bit tough. I appreciated his upfront disclosure! It was not a problem for me but I would have been disappointed if I arrived and was unable to use the ramp.

The location at the end of the road is truly great. Private and quiet with a view you can't beat. The fire pit by the lake was great after a day of fishing to watch the sunset.

I love this area of the Vermont islands. This is the fifth time in two years I have stayed on the "Alburgh Passage" and it just keeps getting better and better. This home truly has added positively to my experience in this area.

Definitely going to come back next year and this will be the first place I consider. There is plenty for the sportsman, nature lover and the shoppers and explorers here!

We are located at the very end of a private road. The house is on a 2.5 acre lot with over 600 ft of lake shore. Relax as you have an afternoon barbecue on the deck and watch the sun set as boats pass by. Enjoy a late evening moment by the lake shore as you roast marshmallows over the fire pit. Bring your bicycle and enjoy a trip around the Islands starting from your own backyard. In the Islands you will be able to enjoy activities including golfing, antiquing, bicycle touring, boating (rentals available) and fishing (many charters available). Area attractions include Saint Anne’s Shrine, Grand Isle Fish Hatchery, ECHO Center (aquarium), and the Teddy Bear Factory. In addition there are several state parks and public sandy beaches. Downtown Montreal is one hour and fifteen minutes from your doorstep. Stowe, VT is approximately an hour and a half drive.
