The house itself is small, but fit all of our needs. We were mostly in for the boating on the river, which is nice because there is always some calm water to ski, barefoot, wakeboard, or whatever you like. The dock had some issues, but the repairman was quick to respond and fix it for us. Only one of the docks in the pictures was actually useful for us. The others weren't in the water and looked pretty beat up. But one was all we needed. Had a great weekend!
The process of renting went very easy. We celebrated my husband's 60th Birthday and our daughter and three adult size grandsons, went with us, along with a large dog. Owners directions were great and email reply timely. We found the cottage clean and roomy and stocked well, with cooking items, linens, dishes, towels, ect. The master bedroom was roomy and even had a small bed for a child. The second bedroom had two beds (one a roll out) and was roomy enough to use both beds. The bathroom had a stand up shower and lots of space to dress. The living room and kitchen were connected and spacious. Our grandsons all decided to sleep in the living room using the fold out couch, the roll away and the recliner, and they were comfortable. The dog joined them. The common garage had all kinds of stuff to 'play in the water' as well as fishing poles and this is where the washer and dryer was. My kids love to fish and having the water right out our front door was great. The pier was great to sit on each morning and drink a cup of coffee and watch the sun come up and the sound of the water. I finished each day by sitting on the pier and watching the sun go down. Made beautiful pictures. The porch had a picnic table with chairs, a BBQ pit, and a gas grill. We did not take out the boats because of not having a cert but it encouraged my grandsons to get theirs for next time. Not a whole lot of people around, of course, until Friday night and into Saturday. All were friendly and loved our Dog. Speaking of Dogs, we had one problem but nothing to do with this property. We encountered a pit down the road, around the corner and to the left. We walked our 120 lb. dog, who is serviced trained, pass the pit who would run the fence line, barking and growling. Our dog is used to it and pays no attention. Saturday early morning, husband was walking dog and got to the beginning of the turn, when this pit jumped the fence and came at my husband. Our dog protected his master and a fight broke out. Husband yelled at the dogs and then kicked the pit away. The dog jumped back over the fence and disappeared. No one hurt, but was just wondering where the owner was, why didn't he hear the fighting and come see and what good is that fence???? I hope a child doesn't get hurt walking by that dog.
I want to give the owners kudos for the wine opener. We forgot ours again. Saved the whole trip.
Anyone renting this property will have a great time, as we did. See you again next Oct.
We stayed at one of Linda's cottages for 2 nights and our best friends stayed in the add-on cottage. We had 9 people altogether and plenty of room for everyone. The cottages are right on the Portage River with a lovely dike to walk on and watch the wildlife. The cottages were spotlessly clean with plenty of linens and towels, fully furnished kitchens, helpful tourist guides to the area, easy parking, grills, bikes, ride on toys for kids, etc. During our stay, we visited beaches and wildlife areas, did some shopping, and ferried some of the older kids to an event at the Kalahari Waterpark in Sandusky (27 minutes each way). Our friends also enjoyed local historical sites and the playground down the street from the cottage. It was a very hot weekend and the room air conditioners kept us comfortable. All in all, it was a very pleasant and relaxing vacation.
Great deal! Cozy, clean and close to everything . Neighborhood was quiet w friendly neighbors, cabin updated and clean. Linda was extremely friendly and easy to work with. Would definitely stay here again. But next time I'll bring gear for the rods left in the garage. Only improvement may have been wifi .
The cottage was a bit small but worked for our group. I would recommend renting the addition if you have more than four people. I loved that I was able to bring my dog along, he enjoyed being able to roam in the yard due to the low traffic area. The neighborhood was very quiet which was really nice after spending the entire day at Cedar Point. The cottage is about a half hour from the park, not a bad drive at all. If you are planning to stay at the cottage for multiple days I would suggest bringing all of the supplies you think you might need. It wasn't a problem for us since we were only there a short time but it is very minimally stocked for someone who would like the home away from home feel.
Cottages were clean and stocked with anything you could need, the owners were very nice and accommodating!! Very affordable place to stay in the Lake Erie area!!
