About the property

7 bedrooms, 11 beds, 3 full baths, sleeps 20, Jacuzzi, pellet fireplace,

Kingsley Mill Manor was the mill owner's house built in the mid 1800's. Total privacy is yours while vacationing in a Vermont wonderland, in all seasons. Just beyond the backyard, flows a river through our new private swimming area. The waterfall there can be viewed from the back deck and the newly created master bedroom suite. Music from the falls bathes the house, soothing the souls of all who experience it. In the backyard is an outdoor fire pit with wood to toast your marshmallows and warm your hearts.

Hiking, biking, cross country skiing, and snowmobile trails start at the back door and connect to the VAST statewide trail system. Lake Dunmore is less than 2 miles away, a five minute drive or less than an hour hike via the trails. Middlebury College is 10 minutes from the house.

Watch the sun rise over the mountain. Enjoy bonfires in the back yard fire pit. A wrap around porch with a hanging loveseat defines easy living, and our new four seaon screened porch offers privacy, river music, and a fireplace. The four season sun porch offers space for everyone to gather as does the farm table in the dining room.

There is plenty of lawn for large or small tents, plenty of parking and a large propane grill for outdoor eating. There is a large octagon picnic table in the backyard to feast upon. .

We understand the need for your pet to be included in your vacation. It is our pleasure to accept dogs and only ask that you curb them from getting on the furniture, crate them if you are going to leave them in the house alone, and please clean up after them.

Historical Experience: Our lovely vacation home provides a homey and spacious surrounding for a family gathering, reunions, weddings, or simply to get away from it all in pure Vermont privacy. Built over 175 years ago, you can witness the only standing mill in Salisbury. Please enjoy the multiple trails to other sites along the natural waterways. One of our trails now includes a footbridge over the falls to a private island for your fun and adventure.

Sandy beach, private swimming, suits optional.: With no visible neighbors bask in the sun on the banks of our sandy beach. This private swimming area is four feet deep, shallow enough for children, deep enough for real swimming. Adult supervision required for children. Jump into the water from the dam, sit under the waterfall or in our natural whirlpool and let your worries be washed away. There is a picnic table for a real beach experience. A paradise for all ages.

Our rebuilt, enlarged four season screened back porch overlooks the swimming area and the waterfall. We just installed an efficient and automatic fireplace/stove in the porch. Watch the snow fall in cozy, warm comfort. Great place for breakfast, barbecue, and sleeping.

Snowmobile and cross country ski heaven: Middlebury Snow Bowl is very close for downhill skiing, Killington less than an hour away. Literally from our back door you can cross country ski on challenging trails with no trail fees For snowmobilers it is heaven. Access to the VAST trail is direct from the backyard. There is a pond for Ice fishermen as well as a private trail to Lake Dunmore. Ice skating in the wild or at the rink just ten minutes away. Snow shoeing on our ski trails will take you through the woods and open land. From here you can roam the entire state of Vermont on the VAST trail system.

About Jalna Southwick or David Southwick

Jalna and David met later in life in 2003. We were married in 2008. Our choice was to live up north at David's place and turn the house where Jalna raised her family into Kingsley Mill Manor. It's our favorite place to vacation.

Our passion is to continue working on the Manor to make it ever more comfortable as a vacation rental. Recently we turned an attic into a beautiful master bedroom suite with 2 person Jacuzzi and a view from room of waterfall and mountains. Our current goal is to restore the last standing Kingsley mill, which is on the property and go green with water power from the river.

Jalna Southwick or David Southwick purchased this house in 1986

Why Jalna Southwick or David Southwick chose Salisbury

Kingsley Mill Manor has location, location, location. It's very private with no visible neighbors, yet a quarter mile from the village. A river runs through the property with two gorgeous swimming areas and a waterfall. Behind Kingsley the land is owned by the Middlebury Land Trust so will remain undeveloped. A trail runs from our back door to Lake Dunmore. This trail is part of the VAST system of snowmobile/cross country skiing trails that spans Vermont. It's also a gorgeous hike.

The house is large, comfortable, with a long history. It is the perfect setup for a vacation rental, for family reunions, for ski teams, organizational meetings, weddings and just plain fun.

What makes this house unique

One of the features of the property that I fell in love with was the foot bridge over the pond and above the falls. Walk across for multiple trails to old mill foundations and cross country ski trails in the winter

Guestbook comments from the owner

When we decided to have our wedding in Vermont we started looking right away at different locations. I found Kingsley Mill Manor on the internet and set up an appointment to view the house and meet the owners. Kingsley Mill Manor was covered in snow but we fell in love with it! The house was perfect for our family and wedding party to stay in. We soon picked a day and reserved the house for our special event Jalna and David were generous and flexible, and allowed us to come back again in summer to choose where to put a tent and have our ceremony. We even got to take a dip in the swimming hole! When we arrived in September to have our wedding, the house was clean and well prepared for us. The property was perfect for what we had planned. Our wedding party and cook stayed in the house with us. On Friday, Alfresco Tent Co. set up a large tent on the far end of the lawn. Our ceremony was to take place on the beach by the swimming hole. Everyone felt comfortable and relaxed in the space. As we had a truly do it your self wedding there was lots of space for a busy group of friends and family; and we could still find nooks to rest in. The day of the wedding started of overcast but the sun popped out just before we started. It was all we could have wanted and more! We had a fun, beautiful ceremony next to the waterfall, followed immediately by dancing on the lawn with a brass band and appetizers. As the weather started to cool off we headed to the tent for dinner. After dinner our guests spread out around property and found areas that they enjoyed. As it was a cold night we had a fire going in the fire pit; dancing in the tent; and people picking at left overs in the kitchen. There was even space for sleepy guests to take naps. Our guests loved the wedding. Everyone felt relaxed and at home. Our wedding was perfect thanks to the beautiful home of Jalna and David. Shawn and I stayed for 3 more nights at Kingsley Mill Manor to start our honey moon. We enjoyed the quiet and calm of the space and spent hours reminiscing about our wedding day. We had amazing nights gazing at the stars around the fire and listening to owls. There was even a bit of warm weather for a dip in the cold water! We also really enjoyed the town Middlebury and the Moosalamoo Recreation area for hiking. There is so much to do in the area but once you have food there is no reason to leave the manor! We did not want to go home. Thanks Jalna and David.

Comfortable and large retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our youth ski team stayed two nights at Kingsley Mill Manor. The house was 20 minutes from the Middlebury Snow Bowl and provided a wonderful retreat after a day of competition. The layout of the house accommodated our 15 person group easily with numerous common rooms to relax and find quiet space in. The kitchen was extremely well equipped with every pot, pan and utensil needed to serve a large group meal. The children loved exploring the grounds and also had wonderful games of hide in seek within the house with all the nooks and crannies. Jalna and David were a delight to deal with and really took great pleasure and effort to ensure that our stay was easy and comfortable. I highly recommend this vacation home.

4th time at this charming home

  • 5 of 5

We are a large group of friends who get together every year with spouses and children. This home is so large and comfortable, with lots to do in the area and at the house. We love the pond and waterfall and large yard. Has everything you need in the kitchen. My only complaint is there is no AC in two of the bedrooms but I imagine with a house that big and old (but not run down - it’s Beautiful) the electric can only handle so much. This was our fourth stay and the first we needed ac because it’s been so hot. Years past open windows did the trick. Vermont is spectacular. Visit Burlington if you can.

Comfortable and Roomy

  • 4 of 5

We had a group of 18 counting adults and children and rented this house to celebrate a milestone birthday. The house had plenty of room to spread out and plenty of sleeping options. Everyone was please with the comfort of the beds. The kitchen accommodated cooking for a large crowd very well. As we only were there for two nights and one full day we stayed at the house and played games, went sledding and had a fire in the pit outside. We know this area very well and always find plenty to do and many restaurants nearby even if we didn't partake on this trip. We would definitely consider this again when we all want to get together and would recommend to others.
