Superb Lake house!

Quaint cottage right on the water. Outdoor firepit provided long evenings of relaxing time

under the stars. House had everything. Thanks Dan

Nice cottage! Nice property!

  • 3 of 5

We had a nice family vacation on Lake Carobeth. The cottage and property was well maintained. The kids had a great time playing in the water, on the beach and fishing off the dock. The wildlife was amazing. There were deer everywhere and a bald eagle flying around and fishing in the lake. We had an issue with a dead skunk, but Dan took care of that fairly quickly. There are a few reasons why I give it 3 stars. First, the couch (or maybe the carpet) smelled like dog pee. You would get the occasional wiff, which was not pleasant. Second, the pool badges were not kept up to date. We went to go use the pool and they wouldn’t let us in cause they were not stamped for July. Third, the lake is not the best for swimming. There is a nice small shallow sandy area great for kids, but when you move out of this area the bottom gets very mucky. As you go further out into the lake it gets shallower. Dan really doesn’t have much control over this, but it is part of the rental. Nevertheless, we still had a nice relaxing vacation.

Owner's Response: Hi Ed Thanks for the feedback. The wildlife is amazing and I'm glad the kids loved the sand beach and lake.it is the best part of being up there While we work hard to keep the carpets and furniture in tip top shape being dog friendly takes some extra care . We steam clean as regular maintenance but dog accidents happen and not all pet owners are conscientious. Now being that this feedback is over 30 days since you stayed, immediate feedback would have been appreciated and we could have acted on it sooner. We just happened to replace the couches 2 weeks ago anyway. I'm glad I was able to assist in getting rid of the skunk, but I'm not sure why you didn't let me know about the pool badges. We could have fixed that issue as well. Have a great summer!

The property was fantastic. We had some problems with neighbors but that was no fault of the owners.

Really enjoyed our stay. The property was amazing as advertised. No problems at all. The wildlife was amazing. Fishing was very good. Would recommend it to anyone.

Overall it was a good vacation

  • 2 of 5

We had a good time in this lake house with some small issues. Overall it was a good vacation. Here are the pros and cons

+ Good layout in the house. Enough space for everyone.

+ Great patio area with good enough grill.

+ Nice backyard with a nice firepit.

+ There is boat and canoe for enjoying the lake

+ There is a community pool! But check the season if it is open, when we went there pool was closed unfortunately.

- You cannot really swim in this lake, it is very shallow.

- If you are interested in fishing from deck you can be disappointed. You should try using boats.

- One of our friends got bitten A LOT in downstairs room when he was sleeping. All rest of us was fine, he slept in that room alone. His arms had at least 40-50 bites and very itchy. Took 2 weeks then to go away. Bites didn’t show up when we were there. We contact to owner and he said, “he slept in that room and he is fine, but just in case he will call exterminator to check it out.”

- There is a security in the area. I mean this is great to have, 24 hours security around. BUT it was interesting, it felt a bit too much. They were always around, couple of times we heard sirens 2 cars at least. What can happen in this quite nice area. I think security was a bit exaggerated.

Owner's Response: Thanks for pointing out all the great things we love too. We think the house and lake location are superb. The fire pit at night is spectacular.and the deck and patio are the best places to unwind. I do want to clarify your points. You can swim off the dock. It is about 3 feet off the dock and very safe to get into the water and as you swim out it gets deeper. There are no weeds in the water it's clean and you can see the bottom. I swam across the lake last year. Most anglers fish from boats as they want to get to deeper water and explore the lake to see the best places to fish. It's the kids that love to fish from the dock because they can catch sunfish all day. Of course you are not going to have the same success on the dock. And when I came up after you guys left, one fishing rod was broken and the other had salt water bait on it. So maybe you are new to fishing. The prior week our guest caught and released over 22 fish including large mouth and small mouth bass, perch, pickerel, and lake trout to name a few. Lastly I stayed at the house after you left. and stayed in the room.and had no bites.and we had an exterminator back out to evaluate the house and he treated it but wasn't able to find anything specific in that room or the rest of the house. But we take all concerns seriously so we wanted to stay on top of it. However, people that come stay with us come from all over and sometimes they don't understand the kind of bugs that call the lake home. With all the water and trees, wildlife and grass everywhere, we have water bugs, gnats, flying insects mosquitoes and spiders outside that you've probably never seen before It's part of being on the lake. Our public safety is around to keep everyone safe. I love that they are visible. Glad to see you guys still had a nice time.

Great view of lake

  • 5 of 5

This house is all about the lake view. We couldn’t have been any happier. The house was a good size for 5 adults and a large dog. The fishing was great—10 fish were caught and released. It was only a few steps to water and the deer came right thru the yard in the morning and at night. The house could use a lttile update but overall we enjoyed our stay and are planning on staying there again.
