simply enchanting
We have just returned from our family reunion Christmas holiday at Chalet Genevieve and what an incredible occasion it was. Not the least of which was thanks to the incredible chalet and its location in the charming village of Le Miroir. The home is just as described, large, plenty of rooms and immaculately renovated - a perfect house for our family of 12. Beautiful views and light, amazing central heating as well as hearty fireplace, all modern conveniences including wifi all laid out across 4 levels make this home a special place with lots of private spaces, Home-owner Mathieu and local hostess Dominique both were outstanding to deal with throughout booking, planning and period of stay itself - nothing was too difficult for them to assist with - truly gracious and personable hosts who went above and beyond with special personal touches! The location itself is like a slice from history - untouched by the brashness of modern tourism - almost like a land that time forgot. The village of Miroir is situated about a 5minute drive from the more established village of Sainte Foy (at the bottom of the hill) - here is a small local shop stocks all the basics form fresh bread to daily milk. The town of Bourg St Maurice is about a 30min drive away and this has a massive supermarket (as well as wider array of other stores in a quaint town centre) for larger shopping excursions. Our plan was to celebrate a white Christmas but, as many would know, to do so in western Europe is becoming more and more difficult every year. We chose this location because of its proximity to the ski resorts of Val D'Isere and Tignes (30-40mins drive away a long winding mountain roads) . Because of their elevation both resorts can basically guarantee snow at this time of year - and they did not fail to deliver - whilst most of Europe saw a dismal start to their ski seasons in 2016 - we were able to ski on a new piste every day. Although Le Mirior is not as high as the resorts and therefore not as certain to receive early snow, the view delivers in mountains of magical whiteness. All in all a very special stay in a truly enchanting home. Thank you!
