Notes
- Property is long and narrow - about 50 wide and 300 feet long. Very quiet because it is set back from the road and cottage is well insulated. Most of the property is shady. There is a fire pit and we provide enough firewood for guests to use the firepit at least two times. More wood can be purchased very affordably. On holiday weeks, there are people around the lake using fireworks. We ask our guests to refrain from using fireworks for safety reasons.

Ask a questionAbout Jerry Komejan
We are a professional couple that also have had a personal cottage on Brooks Lake for 14 years. In fact, we have been visiting this lake for over 30 years as we have had friends there for a long time. We currently live in Holland, Michigan and have been lifelong West Michigan residents. Our college degrees are from Hope College which is a private liberal arts college in Holland and then we have been working for large corporations based in West Michigan. People who know us describe us as extremely high integrity, very committed doing everything 'right', and being good people to work with. Of course, we are not perfect, but we try to do the very best that we can - in our own lives and in our work with others. It's just very important to us to set high standards. In addition to our roots here, we have traveled the world extensively for business and pleasure - we have met so many wonderful people everywhere in our travels and at Lilac Cottage.
Jerry Komejan purchased this Cottage in 2006
Why Jerry Komejan chose Newaygo
After visiting this lake for many years, we finally had the opportunity to purchase a home on the lake in 1999. We restored this home over a period of several years. Then, in 2006, when the property next door became available, we decided to purchase it and build Lilac Cottage as a rental. From the onset, we wanted to provide a unique experience for our guests. We had heard so many 'horror' stories of people renting cottages and being very disappointed when they arrived and actually saw the property. Often, we heard of cottages being so dirty that the first day would be consumed with cleaning it themselves. Also, we heard stories of cottages in poor repair with shoddy furniture, appliances, and not fully equipped. We decided to provide a very clean cottage with all of the modern amenities . . . a place we would love to stay in ourselves (and we are very picky people). So we built the cottage - well insulated, oak woodwork, cute decor, nice carpet, good furniture, good equipment, extra clean, nice linens, multiple TVs, a small stereo with music, games, etc. There would be no 'roughing it' for our guests. And outside, there would be a nice patio, chairs, a good grill, several small 'fun' boats, etc. Our efforts paid off. We have repeat guests every year and even our new guests comment on how the cottage is the nicest one they have every rented. We are very proud of that. So yes, our standards are high. We expect our guests to treat our property kindly - that way, we can continue to provide a very nice experience for our visitors.
What makes this Cottage unique
This property has very nice lake views and is a wonderful, relaxing place to just sit on the patio or around a firepit next to the water. This is why we describe the cottage as a 'relaxing get away'. It's a way to be in a casual environment and still have the amenties of a modern and ultra-clean cottage. For people who want to 'get away from it all', this is a good place to be. We have tried to provide many amenties that make it possible to just come without hauling a lot of extras along. We provide bikes, small boats, books, music, magazines, towels, etc. etc. The idea is that all you have to bring is yourself and buy your own 'consumables'. We also take great pride in the initial impression that we always hear from our visitors . . . 'This is so much more than I expected!' That is our goal.
