About Ragnheidur

I live in Reykjavik with my husband and children and grandkids.

Why Ragnheidur chose Southern Region

My family had a cottage in this part of the country when I was a kid. It's a fantastic area with all the varieties of nature and close to some of my favourite spots in Iceland.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is comfortable and warm. It is heated with water from a local geothermal drilling hole which is owned by the farmer up in the valley.

It has lots of room, it's accessible in the wintertime and has great views. You can even see the tip of Hekla volcano towards the south-east. The perfect place to unwind.

Lovely, relaxing location

  • 5 of 5

Great location, remote but easily accessible. One hour drive from Reykjavik and two hours from Vik. Very close to Gulfoss and Geysir and only half hour drive to Thingvellir. Wonderful house with lots of added extras, like home from home; warm, comfortable and spacious.

Cozy and Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was fantastic! It was clean, looked just like the online photos, had a well stocked kitchen, comfortable beds and sofa, and the surrounding area was beautiful. Our 4 year old daughter loved the ladder and attic, as well as playing on the deck outside. You can hear two waterfalls in the distance, on the mountainside behind the house. One evening, we came home and saw horses in the pasture nearby. We walked up to the fence, and the friendly Icelandic horses came to greet us. Some of our best photos in Iceland were shot with them (it was sunny that day!). The cottage is near Thingvellir, Geysir and Gulfoss. The owners are very responsive and informative, and helped to make our vacation planning easier. We would definitely recommend a stay at The Geysir Cottage!

A great vacation in a comfortable cottage

  • 4 of 5

We were very happy with our choice of lodging. It was a private, but not isolated location We loved being near the Geysir and it was an easy drive within 10 minutes to 2 hours to waterfalls, the geysir, horseback riding and other attractions in the south western part of the island. Our days were filled with many experiences.

The cottage was the perfect size for our family of 4 girls off on an adventure. We all had our own space. We were able to make meals at home plus we found a few resturants to our liking. There were a couple of concerns and they were handled quickly and to our satisfaction. If we are lucky enough to return to Iceland, this cottage would certainly be on the list of places to stay. The owners sent us tips that made our stay easy and enjoyable.

Peaceful cottage with awesome view

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in this peaceful cottage. It was well-equipped, had a comfortable bed (only used master bedroom), friendly owner, good communication. Lots of windows to enjoy the view and the late July sun on the terrasse.

A superb cottage in a breathtaking location

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six adults and one child had a very comfortable stay at the cottage. We always looked forward to getting back everyday. It is very spacious, and has everything needed for self catering and just relaxing and enjoying the surroundings. In the time that we spent at the cottage, we never saw another person, only two vehicles, so it was lovely and private. The owner was very communicative way before we went, and even now when we are back home.
