Berkeley Springs is one of the best known arts towns in the Mid-Atlantic. Many practitioners of both the healing arts and visual arts have been attracted to the area for several centuries. It is a town of galleries, good food and a variety of 'alternative' and holistic therapists.

Coolfont is a quiet, rustic retreat just a couple of miles outside of Berkeley Springs-- the roads and cottages were designed in complete harmony with the landscape, maximizing both beauty and privacy. Cacapon State Park abuts the property and features a Robert Trent Jones golf course, fishing, hiking and a great Mission Style Lodge.

About Carolyn Snyder

Carolyn Snyder, I am the broker owner of Snyder,Bailey and Associates Inc. We have had the real estate business for 25 years in Eastern WV. I'm originally from New York and formally taught at City University and for the State University. Coming to WV I was elected to the State Legislature and then worked for Governor Rockefeller for 8 years running his Eastern Panhandle office and working with economic development.

Carolyn Snyder purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Carolyn Snyder chose Berkeley Springs

For a time I was involved with Coolfont Resort that developed the Coolfont Mountainside as well as the resort. I found the area not only naturally beautiful but found those involved in the community, interesting with varied backgrounds, primarily professional, caring, kindly souls that loved nature and intellectual pursuits. The town itself is one of the top artists towns in the country and has a fun, mix of creative people and activities.

What makes this cottage unique

Located in the woods, private yet with neighbors somewhat nearby, amenities such as hiking trails, tennis, beautiful pool and hot tub in a wooded setting, close to town, easy access where all factors in my decision to purchase.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a great time in your lovely home. Thank you very much. It's simply a great place for a family with kids as we are. The house offers enough space and is cozy at the same time. Everything was working perfectly. Located directly in the woods, you just have to open the door and you are already on one of the trails. We enjoyed hiking even in February.

Lovely, spacious cabin close to everything.

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful, spacious home was the perfect home base for my friends and me, who went to Berkeley Springs on a business trip. It was big enough to give everyone a separate bedroom, and had tons of space to spread out and do sewing for the company. It was close enough to town to do shopping and dining out, and the owner/manager was kind enough to work with us on some special requests, due to the nature of our business trip. Highly recommended!

Wonderful and Peaceful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed this idyllic venue. The house was clean and well-kept with all the ammenities as described. We went with out little ones and thoroughly enjoyed the area with its well-kept community pool and natural grounds. Would recommend this one to any one looking to get away and enjoy a few days of quiet.

Cozy, warm and peaceful cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

We arrived on a Thursday afternoon for a long weekend. Upon first walking in the door we immediately felt like the accommodations were inviting and comfortable. The overwhelming quiet at this moderately remote location were perfect for a relaxing getaway.

The small charcoal grill was perfect for the preparation of some quality steaks and chicken. The kitchen is a bit small, so the option to cook outside was extremely beneficial. I will say however small, the kitchen is packed with every accommodation you would need, crockpot, toaster, coffee pot and Keurig. We found multiples of every utensil, bowl and pot we needed to cook for a group of 8. The dining table was a perfect fit for our group and made for some really great family style dinners.

The beds were firm and mostly comfortable but if the firmness is too much, I can confirm that at least one of the couches is fantastic for napping, right next to the wood stove which does a fantastic job of keeping the house nice and cozy. The couches provided ample comfortable seating and made for a great social environment to chat and play board games. The skylights in the main room as well as all the windows provided great natural lighting as well.

The 2 bathrooms were well stocked, clean and functional with great water pressure. On our last day, with 8 people taking turns showering, hand washing dishes and running the dish washer, we did put the hot water heater to it's limit and 2 of us had a colder shower than we would have preferred.

I'm not sure what else I can say other than that Carolyn was delightful to work with and the property is one that we definitely hope to visit again in the future.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for taking the time and providing the very detailed account of your stay at Treetop Cottage. We are always so glad to hear when people have enjoyed their stay and found the property comfortable, inviting and peaceful. I believe it is a wonderful getaway surrounded by BIG trees; there are good hiking trails. It is also very convenient to Berkeley Springs just a few miles away and Cacapon State Park. We find many guests are content just to stay at the house, play board games, read and enjoy the company of friends and family. This month we just installed a new 80 gallon water heater in the hopes that all our guests would have plenty of hot water when there are multiple showers in succession. We keep working on it and want the property to be up to snuff and a pleasant respite.

Ok...not great.

Unfortunately this is one of those places that just looks better in the pictures. The house is a little worse for the wear and was just kind of dirty. The items in the kitchen could use updating (knives were so unsharp that they were almost dangerous to use) or at least a note should be added to the description to bring everything you'll need on your own. The kitchen is also pretty tiny for any more than two people to be in at one time. The host was friendly and easy to deal with, but overall, I think the rental price should be lowered so that expectations would be better in alignment with the realities of this house.

Owner's Response: So sorry to hear this. We appreciate you taking the time to share with us in order that we can improve and do better. We work very hard on keeping the house spotless. Generally all the comments reflect how clean the house is; we pride ourselves on this. Certainly I will be talking to our cleaning gals that pride themselves on doing a good job. We will certainly check on the knives in the kitchen and any other items to see if they need attention. Again usually our reports from guests come back that the kitchen is fully stocked with all the dishes and items needed. We always want our guests to enjoy their stay and we always want to keep the house up to snuff. We do feel that our $250 a night rate that includes all linens, towels, wood for the wood stove, fully furnished 4 bedroom contemporary that generally houses 8-10 people is a bargain. I really can't respond much more, as the stay occurred over a month ago and this is the first time I have heard that this guest was dissatisfied.

Beautiful Weekend Getaway with everything you need!!

  • 5 of 5

This was perfect, just what we needed. The home was perfect for 4 couples (8 people). The kitchen had all utensils, pots and pans needed! The dining area was perfect for large meals we cooked. The living room areas has 3 huge couches surrounding the indoor fireplace! Wood, firestarter and matches are provided for you, which is perfect! Huge deck which would be perfect for the summer! We went tubing at white tail skinresort which is about 40 min away. We had no complaints about renting this home, will do it again next time! The homeowners are easily accessible, they replied immediately about any questions. Thank You for making our trip great!!
