Guestbook comments from the owner

Just wanted to say we really enjoyed your cottage and we could not have asked for better weather. We knew that week was risky and might have been cold when we booked it, so we were really appreciative of the great weather. Our vacation was very enjoyable and restful. Thanks for all the helpful info you provided. We are happy that you choose to rent out your cottage. We also enjoyed meeting Sandy as she was arriving just as we were leaving.

We would definitely rent from you again. Have a great summer.

A Great, Peaceful Spot

  • 5 of 5

This was our third year at Waters Edge. We love this place and will continue to come back in the future. It is always neat, clean, and very well kept. The owners pay a lot of attention to detail and work hard to make sure that the house has everything that you need for a great time, regardless of the weather. Every year, they have something new that makes things even better. On our first weekend, we have a great cookout where family comes up and enjoys the property with us. The week following is 'quiet time', with lots of reading, puzzle making, and snoozing. The dock is great for kayaking and I even took a swim, this year. The lobster co-op down the road is great. This year we picked up a dozen lobsters and made a huge lobster stew. The area is great and everything is convenient (close, but far enough away). I don't think that rental property gets any better than this.

Lovely house in great location

  • 5 of 5

This is a big house and could easily accommodate 8 people. There were only 4 of us, so we had plenty of room.

The house was very well equipped and there was really nothing we had to bring except clothes etc.

Everything was very clean and tidy. There was a TV in each of the bedrooms and good internet service.

The nearest Shaw’s supermarket was a10-minute drive and was very well stocked.

We enjoyed the quietness and the remoteness - it’s a great place for just chilling out on the sheltered patio. If you want nightlife, this place isn’t for you. Particularly enjoyed the kayaking with boats rented from the owner.

Only real problem was with the mosquitoes - they were brutal so bring bug spray.

Picturesque Retreat

  • 5 of 5

First of all, we'd like to thank Connie and Garth for sharing their cottage.

After visiting Augusta, Maine for over 25 years and staying in hotels, we decided to look into staying in a home on the coast instead. We needed a pet friendly home with at least 2 bedrooms on the first floor to accommodate our moms, one who is 90 years old and the other who this year celebrated her 84th birthday on Mothers Day. Your cottage stood out from all of the ones I researched. It did not fail to please.

We celebrated a lot of firsts on this visit - 1) my moms first visit to Maine; 2) our first time renting a home; 3) our first time spending Mothers Day with both of our moms, and 4) our first time celebrating my husband's moms birthday together with family. Needless to say, "Waters Edge" and our time spent there will live a long time in our memories. Definitely a place to go back to!

The perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This is truly a special spot. Private, serene, and so relaxing. Connie was great to work with and very quick to respond to any questions we had prior to our arrival. The fact that they allow dogs was a total bonus. Six of us stayed. It was great all around. The location, the quality of furnishings, and the fact that every bedroom had a private bath. We hope to return again next year. It doesn't get much better than this!

Perfect Maine Home!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this lovely home for a week in mid-May. We couldn't have asked for a nicer house at a reasonable value. It is spacious, clean, and the views from every room are incredible. It was great having a washer and dryer in the master bathroom. Each bedroom has a private full bath. Huge windows give great views of the water. The house is equipped with all the essentials, and then some. We went canoeing from the private dock. The owners were great to communicate with. There are puzzles, games, horseshoe pit, and lots of books to read. Location is great, between Bath and Boothbay, and not far from Freeport and Portland. Highly recommend this home, but please leave a week for us.

WESTPORT ISLAND: The island was settled in the 1700’s. Originally part of the town of Edgecomb and known as Jeremisquam, Westport was incorporated as a separate town in 1828. Island history includes colonization dating to the 1600’s, and a role in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War. There are more than 70 cemeteries dotting the Island and numerous private structures with historical significance. The history is a source of pride, and an attraction for geneaologists and historic preservationists. Westport Island is accessible via a bridge opened in 1972 connecting to the Town of Wiscasset. It’s an 11-mile island, covering an area of approximately 25 square miles, surrounded by the Sheepscot and Back Rivers. It is a self-contained neighborhood of sorts, because there is little reason for those who do not live, summer or vacation on the Island to visit. There are few businesses, no fast food restaurants or chain stores. For the most part, development has let the Island be. State Highway Rte. 144, the main road, snakes along the rocky spine of the island. Trees border much of the road, giving only occasional hints of the tidal rivers and coves that give the Island its natural beauty. The road itself is the only ingress and egress to the Island. As a “dead end” without views of the island’s surrounding waters, the Main Road effectively contributes to the quiet and serenity — even when State Rte. 1 is brimming with non-stop summer traffic and noise a few miles away. Being off the beaten track makes the Island a home for those who value privacy and for those who want to be a part of a small community with qualities of a simpler time.

Beyond its historical attractions — the North End Lobster Co-op, a handful of hiking preserves, the Historic Squire Tarbox Inn, and the newly opened public boat ramp are the most common reasons for visitors to venture onto the Island.

This cottage has a great spot on the Island being only a few miles from the bridge and walking distance to one nature preserve and the North End Lobster Co-op. While there are an abundance of things to do within a short drive many guests choose to spend much of their time at the cottage enjoying the serenity. If you go off island, you can enjoy area restaurants including a huge lobster roll at Red’s Eats (Voted Best Lobster Rolls time and time again-Google it), Sprague's Lobster, Cook's (voted best seafood)-more. Great sandy beaches and swimming at our state parks w/in a 30-minute drive (Reid State Park and Popham State Park-fee charged), museums, and Mid coast sightseeing. A short drive to Boothbay Harbor, Camden and LLBean, Freeport Outlets! Midcoast Maine offers many festivals, gatherings, harbor seal watches, water adventures, craft fairs, sailing & fishing charters, more.

Other Activities: Tennis nearby, Fishing charters, Beautiful beaches a short drive
