Lovely Cave Retreat

  • 4 of 5

Nicely kept cave home, lots of space and a very unique experience! In a great area, very quiet, parking available in front, close to restaurants and main tourist attractions.

A unique experience

  • 5 of 5

We were very pleased we had chosen to stay in Le Troglo de Leonard. It was spotlessly clean, comfortably furnished and attractively decorated. The owner's attention to detail and the personal touches in the troglo made it feel more like a home than merely rented accommodation.

Communciation with the owner Laurence, prior to our stay and on our arrival and departure was prompt, friendly and most helpful.

The two ''on foot' routes from the centre of town to the troglo - a 10 minute walk up the road or 160 steps and then down the road were no problem at all.

We would happily stay here again.

Charming troglo.

  • 5 of 5

Charming troglo, very well appointed, spacious, nice bathroom facilities, with washer. Laurence, the owner, is very gracious and generous, and speaks excellent English. Convenient parking in a relatively quiet neighborhood just around the corner from Leonardo Da Vinci's home.

Just wish the bed was bigger. My husband and I have a king size bed at home so the small bed did not provide us with the best night's sleep. But everything else was exceptional. Susan & Peter, USA

Vacation in a cave

  • 5 of 5

This was a delightful, unique property overlooking Amboise. It is basically a gentrified, limestone cave dwelling. It is beautifully decorated and quite roomy. The cave setting means it is quiet and the ambient temperature is even and comfortable. The only drawback is its location upon the hill which requires walking up a fairly long road/path or a steep set of stairs. The property is on a dead end street which makes parking easy, but requires either backing up the street or turning around in a short radius. The landlady was warm, pleasant and quite helpful. Amboise itself has many fine restaurants and things to do. We spent an entire day on foot within the city limits. Leonardo's former quarters are a must see.

One of the best places we have stayed in all of our European travels!

  • 5 of 5

The owner has done a excellent job of taking the rustic aspects of a cave and adding all the comforts of home. It's beautifully decorated with high quality furnishings. Located on a very quite street and an easy walk to town. Also right down the street from Leonardo's house. We stayed three nights, which was not long enough. What a treat to stay in such a unique property so close to many sights and great food. One of my favorite surprises was the bed, which gave us the best rest of any place we have stayed in Europe.
