Beautiful Sloway Cabin by the Clark Fork River

Overview

About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Sofa Bed, 2 Baths, (sleeps up 6 adults plus two kids)

Sloway Cabin, a newer, beautiful log home, sits on twelve acres of meadow and woods that are visited nightly by deer and sometimes by bear, moose and elk. The land includes 7 acres along the Clark Fork River, just across the dead-end gravel road from the Cabin.

One hour from Missoula and two from Spokane, the Cabin has very convenient access yet feels like another world--secluded and private. Inside the warmth of the log walls and the high vaulted ceiling create an immediate sense of peace and comfort. At nearly 1,450 sq. ft. the Cabin feels just right-- small enough to be cozy but big enough for everyone. It's the perfect spot for celebrating a birthday, quiet anniversary, or hosting a small family gathering.

Long summer days are for swimming, floating, and fishing the Clark Fork, St. Regis, and Flathead Rivers. To the west, wonderful hiking trails lead to high alpine lakes along Montana/Idaho border. Mountain biking the Hiawatha Trail--over historic (and high!) railroad trestles and through cool dark tunnels--is another favorite. Trestle Creek Golf Course is just 3 miles down the road in St. Regis, where you'll also find two great antique shops.

Should you be able to come in the fall... lucky you! Crisp air, starry nights, and perhaps an evening bonfire. This is the season for more hiking and mountain biking, hunting, antique shopping, and enjoying Quinns Hot Springs.

Once the snow flies there's great skiing and snowboarding at Lookout Pass, just 30 minutes from the Cabin. Lookout has tripled in size over the past few years and boasts some of the Northwest's earliest and best snow. Silver Mountain is another 20 miles down the road. Not a downhiller? The surrounding National Forest has many hundred miles of trails for snowmobiling and cross country skiing. Or simply enjoy a cozy time playing board games, reading, and connecting with friends and family.

After a fun-filled day you'll love hanging out on the Cabin's wrap-around porch. Log rockers invite you to savor the lingering warmth of the sun as you enjoy a cool drink, recount the day's adventures with friends and family, and watch the sun set over the mountains across the river.

No matter what you enjoy at Sloway Cabin the time will pass too quickly. But you're sure to depart feeling relaxed, refreshed, and renewed.

Please note: the cabin is not suitable for young children--it's not child-proof and the loft railings and the stairway balusters are too widely spaced (see photo). Guest dogs will be considered with adherence to the Cabin's pet policy; pet rent is $20 per night.

Also, the rate quoted provided by VRBO/HomeAway is sometimes less than the true price. Please contact me for an accurate quote. Thank you!

About Kate Supplee

The cabin is such a treasure and quiet retreat. We love hanging out with friends, enjoying campfires, working on the place, and the great nearby hiking and skiing. It's been very gratifying to share the Cabin and see the enjoyment and delight it brings to others. It has become a special place to many folks, including a number of return guests.

Kate Supplee purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Kate Supplee chose Saint Regis

St. Regis and Sloway, in particular, are undiscovered parts of Western Montana, and the western gateway to Glacier National Park. I love the Cabin's amazing log construction and peaceful setting by the Clark Fork River. Yet it's only an hour's drive from my home in Missoula. Most of Mineral County land is public land with public access-- Forest Service, BLM, and Plum Creek. So there's great hiking, biking, hunting, and skiing close by.

What makes this cabin unique

There's so much to do near Sloway, but most people love simply hanging out and relaxing at the cabin, enjoying the peace and quiet. People use the cabin to reconnect with family, disconnect from the work-world, and generally have a wonderful time. It's the perfect place for birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions.

Guestbook comments from the owner

WOW! Your home is absolutely beautiful and just what we needed for our little getaway. Your love for your cabin is evident in every detail and very welcoming. We knew from the moment we drove up that we had stumbled upon something great!

It was too early in the year to head up any of the mountain lake trails, but we had fun exploring the river trail and local antique shops, and ended the day with a fabulous dinner at Quinns Hot Springs.

Thank you for opening up your lovely home to strangers.

restorative, lovely cabin and property

  • 5 of 5

My husband and i rented this cabin on our way to the Black Hills in SD from Seattle. It was an easy drive from Seattle and easy to find. Kate was absolutely excellent in terms of keeping us apprised of the property/weather, etc as well as answering any questions we had. We loved using the fire pit every night to have quiet dinners watching the birds around the river and the deer walk through. This house would be a great for a family get together but it also wasn't too big for just two of us - it was perfect. We didn't have super great cell service which was fantastic because it's nice to have a break. :) The satellite radio took care of our entertainment needs and we just read/wrote/enjoyed the property. Fantastic place!

Beautiful Cabin

  • 5 of 5

The Sloway Cabin met or exceeded our expectations. It was very clean when we arrived - which we had expected. Inside, the cabin is top notch - more like a 'house' built out of logs than a cabin in my opinion. The "loft" is a large open upstairs bedroom with a regular staircase going up to it, and railings everywhere (and a full bathroom upstairs) - we had expected a more primitive loft (with a ladder, etc.) from the description. This was good because we had an older couple and a young baby with us, so we were a little worried about a loft, but in hindsight it was not a problem for anyone to access. The property is really beautiful too with a couple of short walking paths, fire pit, plenty of shade, and the trees keep it very private. We plan on staying here again.

Montana Hospitality at its Finest!

  • 5 of 5

Sloway Cabin is the perfect example of Montana Hospitality! Kate was fantastic to deal with and her cabin was gorgeous! The cabin was beautifully decorated, featured warm and cozy beds, plenty of towels, inviting outdoor seating and an extremely well equipped kitchen. During our August rental, we were pleased to have a deer family visit in the morning and had our own fun on the Clark Fork River just across the road. Our family did not want to leave and already hope to go back next year! It was our pleasure to stay at Sloway! Thanks so much Kate!

What a glorious cabin in a spectacular setting. Our time at Sloway could not have been lovelier, though it definitely could have been longer!

Many thanks to Kate and Rich for providing such a delightful place to get away from it all. We'll definitely be back!

Montana river living at it's finest...

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is very family friendly and had everything we needed! It definitely embodies the spirit of Montana with the decor while still having all the comforts of modern living (like coffee machine, dish and clothes washer, etc.). Very well stocked for making meals. We enjoyed relaxing on the deck in the hammock and also looking at the stars in the evening next to the fire pit. (although we did not use the fire due to county fire restrictions) There was also a horseshoe pit that was fun! We took advantage of the board games in the evening and even put together one of the puzzles! The satellite radio was nice to have as we played music the entire time. Beds were cozy and pillows were great. Air conditioners were available, but we did not need to use them as the place stayed cool (and it was mid-90's while we were there!).

We took a couple relaxing float trips down the clark fork river (drove about 2 miles down the road to put in and got out in front of the cabin - be prepared to walk thru the brush when exiting though!)

No wifi or AT&T cell service currently, but Verizon had a couple bars. (who needs phones anyhow when you're on vaca!!) If we needed to get in contact with our family, we just drove up to Saint Regis (about 5 min drive) and contacted them.

Talked to Kate on the phone prior to renting and she also emailed/texted any additional information that we would need. Very friendly and helpful!! Thank you, we will be back next year!!
