we had a wonderful time together. we appreciated the quiet and relaxing place.

  • 3 of 5

We would offer several suggestions for making it easier to access. Have laminated instructions for the TV. We had several challenges and. Jim was helpful with answering our questions. Also when showering in lower bathroom with tub very slippery. A bath mat or several to wash one and another would be good for safety reasons.

A wonderful escape

  • 5 of 5

Jim is a fantastic host, and this is a charming little escape of a cabin: rustic enough to feel like you're getting away, yet with the comforts you want like comfy beds and nice linens. We booked it for the fishing opener and with the long winter and late ice-out date, it was quite a scramble to prepare the fishing boat. Jim was wonderful doing all he could to prep the boat for us, and I so appreciate it. Highly recommend!

Nice place, fit our needs well.

  • 4 of 5

Overall a nice place. Not fancy, but comfortable. Clean, maintained and we had an enjoyable time.

It is a ways to the lake, but for us it didn't matter as it was February. Access onto the lake is limited but we went through a resort to drive onto the lake to ice fish. Nice variety of fish that we caught, bass; northern; sunnies; and crappies.

Ample parking. Dog friendly too which was nice.

Owner made sure we had what we needed and was also available via phone if needed.

There have been some changes from the pictures on the site. A few decor updates, large flat screen in living room, tv in master (though not connected to cable). Also master and another bedroom are upstairs. Word of caution If you are tall (I am 6'5") the slanted ceilings can be a challenge. My 6'7" son was in the loft bedroom and he was ducking around the fan and light fixture and through most door openings.

Overall we had a great long weekend and this place met our needs quite well.

Beautiful, private, peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

We spent a lovely fall weekend at Jim's place over MEA. One day of weather was amazing and the other day was cloudy and stormy, this rainy day only contributed to the awesome view from the many windows to watch the storm. A group of us needed a weekend away to fish, have quiet time and just enjoy the outdoors. This is the first time, we have ever considered a repeat stay. A perfect spot for families, couples, friends. Yard is vast, lake is at the bottom of the hill, which you have a convenient golf cart to take supplies down, but honestly, it really is just a quick little hike down, adds to the ambiance of outdoors. Lake is beautiful with fish. Saw plenty of deer, a black squirrel and our pups were in absolute wildlife heaven!

Jim is a wonder to work with. Quick to respond, super friendly and he even helped our friends ship an expensive rainsuit back which was left behind.

As far as the home... absolutely clean! There is no smell, which we all know tends to linger in some places, his home is spotless, the decor is perfect for the lake and the amenities are plenty. You literally can hop in your car with your suitcase and have everything you need for a long weekend.

We look forward to future visits here and hope Jim will have us back. Thank you Jim, you were a treat to work with and we are super grateful for inviting us into your home. The McCandless and friends say thanks!

Lovely getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time here! It's a nice comfy house with very pretty views of the lake and surrounding trees. There were windows everywhere! That was a bit of a double-edged sword because there were no curtains or blinds in most rooms. It didn't offer much privacy or security at night, especially given that neighbors and the road aren't that far away. The beds were very comfortable! Such soft sheets and comforters, I usually slept late. We saw deer every morning and evening, and they were acclimated enough to humans to let us get within picture range. The property has a few trails, which I enjoyed exploring. Other properties have boasted lots of acreage, but it's sometimes completely overgrown and inaccessible. Nisswa itself is charming and has a lot to offer visitors. I would definitely recommend staying here!
