Lovely house, terrible welcome, bad hygiene
The house is lovely and very spacious.
Unfortunately, the housekeeper was not welcoming at all, even bordering on the rude.
Despite the fact that there is no heating in the downstairs living area (lounge & with open plan kitchen) she did not want us to use the chimneys. It was about 10 deg centigrade outside, so with the large bay windows it was really cold inside. We had to argue for at least 10-15 minutes to then be told we were allowed to use one of the chimneys but not the other. She then told us a few times that we needed to clean it as if we were dirty irresponsible kids.
After calling the property owner, who was very friendly, we were of course allowed to use both chimneys.
The lady also did not want to give us an additional towel. There is one bath towel and one small hand towel per person for one week, and despite us only being two people and having paid for 8 people I had to beg and plead for another 10 minutes to be given an additional towel. Bear in mind that we were staying for a whole week.
We were then told in no uncertain terms we needed to clean the property before leaving, which we would have done anyways, and separate the garbage into specific bins, otherwise we would be charged 600€.
To top it the place had clearly not been cleaned (nor santized) before our arrival. There was long dark hair in the showers, on the chairs, on the floor (neither my partner nor myself have long dark hair, so they were not ours). There were cobwebs in the staircases and on the doorframes and dirty patches in corners aso.
In addition the ad for the house mentions fitness equipment, but apart from a home-trainer (bike), which to the owners admission is not working, there was no fitness equipment to be seen.
To summarize, the house has potential, the owner seems nice enough but the housekeepers terror regime is really offputting and did ruin part of the experience. Also, lacking hygiene is totally unacceptable.
