About this property

Waterfront living on a quiet lake. Pet Friendly.

Lakefront Peace. Forest Calm. A retreat from the city. Get out on the water. Get cozy with a book. Watch eagles and osprey with your morning coffee. Or toast marshmallow over the firepit at the beach.

This peaceful getaway is the huge downstairs apartment in the house our family has lived in for over 50 years. It's a self-contained unit, with a full, well-supplied kitchen, laundry facilities, very comfortable beds, privacy and quiet.

It's hard to say which is the most wonderful feature of the apartment. Is it the extremely comfortable beds? Is it the friendly living room with its lovely gas fireplace? Is it the spacious layout, with enough room to comfortably hold a large crowd, yet which also has plenty of nooks and corners for privacy and rest?

Or is it the patio? The gardens? The trees? The flowers? The chickens?

Those are all wonderful. But surely the best feature is the lake--Ames Lake, a private, quiet, clean, delightful oasis, home to beavers, eagles, buffle-heads, perch, trout, dragonflies and kingfishers. Internal-combustion engines aren't allowed on the lake, which helps to keep it quiet and peaceful.

Please note: This property is not appropriate for people with pet allergies or asthma, as the house has been lived in for 60 years, and many animals have lived here and visited. It is also not appropriate for people who smoke, inside or out.

This is the only property we own. We're a family. Not a corporation renting out hundreds of homes. We welcome you as our guests.

Scenic but rustic
Beautiful lake view. Nice "out of town" but close to town location for working in Bellevue. A great amount of space for a family or two couples, fairly priced for all that room. Great internet speeds for telecommuting. The host, Kim, was great, very communicative and helpful. Older property that could benefit from a bit more maintenance. If you are sensitive to mildew, proceed with caution. Overall, good for a "lake cabin" experience.

Spring Break peace
We fell in love with this place. Tons of space for us and so beautiful. We loved the view and the quiet. The lake was incredible and we loved to spend time on the dock. Easy distance to local towns.

Beautiful location and area
We were impressed with the area and lake and spaciousness of the suite. Travelling from Canada with 4 teenagers and there was room for everyone. The kids loved the hallway lol. The suite itself was good but lacked a few things we assumed would be there (sugar and coffee for example). We were really disappointed that there was no hot tub as was stated in the ad, but host quickly apologized for the incorrect info on the site. We didn't use the outdoor space as much as I had thought or hoped we would. The boats were covered (assuming for winter), the firepit had no firewood and the local store wanted $1 a piece and we didn't have anything to cut it up with. We were also scared the cedar boughs hanging down would be a problem and we didn't want to start a forest fire! The patio furniture was covered in debris and pine needles etc, so we didn't use at all. Space was quiet (zero noise from upstairs) and quite enjoyable for us. Had some trouble finding which driveway to use etc, (signs would solve this) but once we found it and realized we were in the right place, check in was easy. We had a great stay even without the hot tub and the drive in to Seattle was enjoyable. All in all quite a charming little suite.

I grew up in this house, and wouldn't choose to live anywhere else.

Why they chose this property

This house began its life in the 1940's as a log cabin. In 1963 the cabin was lifted up, a full concrete basement was poured under it, and this house was built around it. My family discovered the house in 1970, when the yellow formica counters in the upstairs kitchen were still new. We have loved it ever since, and we've always filled it with guests.

What makes this property unique

Aside from the coziness, the spaciousness, the many amenities and great location, the best thing about this house is being right next to Ames Lake, one of the cleanest lakes in King County. We are immersed in nature, and we do everything we can to stay in harmony with it.
