Photos and Description of this Poynette holiday cottage

2 bedrooms, 2 baths, sleeps 4-6. Waterfront with great view and open layout!

20% off mid-week stays during low and mid seasons! Ask about special pricing for couples! Same owner as smaller cottage next door.

Rent this furnished cottage to enjoy the beauty of nature on the Wisconsin River and Lake Wisconsin. Conveniently located on the Lake Wisconsin waterfront between Madison and the Wisconsin Dells, just 1.5 hours from Milw and 3 hours from Chicago.

This 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 2-story cottage has a bright, clean kitchen and a wonderful open layout on the first floor. Beautiful views out the large living room windows look onto green, sandy islands and the undeveloped distant shores of the Wisconsin River as it opens up into Lake WI. Explore the many channels, sandbars, and islands of the WI River and Lake WI. Two-person sauna on deck with great view of river and hills.

SPRING, SUMMER, and FALL Adventures! Green trees, sunny sand-bars, and a lazy river await you. Tucked off the main channel the cottage has the best of both worlds…easy assess to the big water, a great view of the water and sunsets, but little boat traffic. Because of our shallow waterfront location, the choice is yours, launch your boat at one of 3 nearby boat launchs and head left for Lake Wisconsin or go right for the Wisconsin River. You’ve got it all right here! You can launch your boat daily and spend an exciting day on the open water of the lake (too shallow to get a boat of any size into our channel but you can park your trailer in front at the end of the day) or a quiet day exploring the Dells-like bluffs and the nearby islands, coves, and backwaters in your canoe or kayak. The shallow water in front is perfect for kayaks and canoes.

Enjoy shallow water fishing from the pier or while wading or head out in a boat to hit several of the best local fishing spots all within 5 minutes of the cottage: The Narrows, Fockes Bluffs, and Camp Rest Park. Good fishing for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, White Bass, Catfish, Largemouth, Crappie and more.

The cottage has a green lawn for yard games or for kids to run around in, plus just a block away is a park with playground equipment and wading beach, perfect for small children and dogs. Tennis and basketball courts are just a mile up the road. Bike riding opportunities on winding country roads in the area are fantastic. Up for a challenge? Circle Lake Wisconsin on your bike, it's about a 50-60 mile trip with a free ferryboat crossing as a highlight!

This two bedroom, two bathroom house has a full kitchen and an open layout. The kitchen is equipped with all you’ll need to prepare any meal you like…or grill out on waterside deck on the gas grill! Feeling lazy? Kick back and enjoy the 42” flat screen LCD HDTV or enjoy the hot tub which seats up to six people, so...relax, sip a drink, even surf the web, and watch the river go by!

Beautiful views out the large living room windows and across the 16’x25’ deck look onto green, sandy islands and the undeveloped distant shores of the Wisconsin River as it opens up into Lake Wisconsin.

FALL & WINTER FUN! After the summer crowds leave you’ll find unique beauty and tranquility on the river. Tucked in among the surrounding bluffs and hillsides you’ll find gorgeous fall colors and dazzling winter scenery. Hundreds of wooded acres across the street are home to the Red Bellied Woodpecker, Wild Turkey, and White Tailed Deer, while the ever-changing river offers views of Sandhill Cranes, Bald Eagles, Beaver, and Muskrat. Scenic drives in all directions make interesting day trips more fun! Many nearby day-trip possibilities including the Wollensheim Winery, Wisconsin Dells, Devil's Lake State Park, Baraboo Circus World Museum, and so much more. Nearby ski hills include Cascade Mountain (15 min) and Devilshead Lodge (30 min).

So much to see and so much to do! Relaxing!

Fish for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, White Bass, Catfish, Largemouth, Crappie, and more. Many nearby day-trip possibilities including the WI Dells, Devil's Lake State Park, Baraboo Circus World Museum, and more! Great bird-watching!

About Dave Weber

I grew up and still live in Highland Park, IL and went to college in Wisconsin (UW-Eau Claire). We love to camp and fish and canoe and bike and hike! This area is perfect for that. Cheryl would only let me but a cottage to enjoy this area where I've fished my whole life if we could find a way to help it pay it's way. So we started renting it as a vacation home on VRBO and Homeaway and the rest is history. We love coming up and staying at our cottages (we also now own a smaller cottage next door, called Quietwater Cottage)!

Dave Weber purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Dave Weber chose Lake Wisconsin

I have fished and enjoyed this beautiful area since I was a boy. We purchased this cottage to enjoy and share with others who want great memories. It is next door to our other cottage, Quietwater Cottage, which is a little smaller but equally nice.

What makes this cottage unique

The open layout this cottage with the great views of the water and islands sold us on this wonderful getaway! We loved the big deck on the water side and the gently sloping yard to the water. It's close to so many fun things to do. We provide a canoe and rowboat for our guests and shallow water in front make it easy to get out on the water and enjoy the beauty of the river and sandy islands.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My husband my 4 children and myself really had a great time at the cottage. It was a very relaxing week. The cottage is very well kept and stocked. It was great to meet you Dave and be able to put a face to the voice I spoke to so many times to arrange our week. I cant say enough good things about the cottage and the people. We had a great time and look forward to returning soon for a weekend together.

Nice family vacation home

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful views of river included magnificent bird-watching and gorgeous sunsets. The kids loved the nearby park and use of the canoe and rowboat were huge hits. A very relaxing retreat that provided all the necessary modern conveniences. The mosquitos were certainly voracious but the bug spray seemed to tame them a bit. The wine and flowers upon arrival were appreciated as well! Would definately return under the same circumstances.

Beautiful and peaceful.

  • 4 of 5

We drove up to the pretty cabin and couldn't wait to begin our vacation. The cabin was clean and sizeable and the owners really did think of everything to help us feel at home. The view from the deck was beautiful and the hot tub was huge and very welcoming. The only downside to the stay was very shallow water near the cabin, making use of the rowboat impossible. We were able to use the canoe, but even that dragged a bit until we were able to get to deeper water. Also, we really wanted to try the Thirsty Moose for dinner but it was closed for a few weeks. Instead, we went to the Owl's Nest. It was okay, but we were a bit disappointed that they didn't serve fresh fish. All frozen. I guess we just figured with all the excellent fishing in the area, we would find a place with fresh fish. The area was otherwise very pretty with friendly locals who waved and smiled when they passed us walking the dogs. If it would've allowed me to rate half stars I would've given the place 4 and 1/2 stars. It was that close to perfect. It was just what the doctor ordered for a peaceful and beautiful get away.

Owner's Response: Hi Paula, glad you had such a good time at the cottage! Despite great fishing in the area restaurants can only serve commercially caught fish, and there is no commercial fishing of game fish allowed on most if not all inland waters of Wisconsin. So though Walleye and Bluegill are served in local restaurants they are usually commercially caught and sold from Canada. My favorite eating local fish is fresh White Bass and Yellow Bass, caught in abundance in May/June and Sept/Oct. The water's very shallow in front of the cottage, especially in the middle. Best to keep the canoe/rowboat tight to shore heading upriver, then cut across to the other side at the giant Willow tree. Hope to have you as our guests again sometime! -Dave

Very comfortable, quaint cottage on the lake/river. We had everything we needed. Great view of the lake/river from inside, and an excellent deck and huge lawn overlooking the lake/river. Would definitely go back!

Lovely River Cabin!

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time enjoying family while at the cabin. This cabin has pretty much everything you would want and supplies towels, utensils, a grill right there for use. The river was beautiful we used both the canoe and the row boat to go fishing. The hot tub was great and very clean and wonderful to look out to the picturesque views.

The only downsides were the river was pretty shallow right at the pier but we took the canoe out a little ways to fish and that was fun. Also there is only one shower but it worked just fine to have a bath too. There is no washing station for dirty laundry which would be a bonus at the lake.

Wonderful stay Thank you!!

Very nice and clean. We would definitely stay again. Very enjoyable.

The cottage was nice. There were a few pet stains on the curtains and carpet but it didn't really bother us. Also the bathroom outlet popped the breaker when I plugged in my hairdryer but called the manager to find out where the breaker panel was and after that used the outlet in the bedroom for the dryer with no problem. We loved the location and would come again or would recommend it to others
