Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms, 2 baths, sleeps 4-6. Waterfront with great view and open layout!

Rent this furnished cottage to enjoy the beauty of nature on the Wisconsin River and Lake Wisconsin. Conveniently located on the Lake Wisconsin waterfront between Madison and the Wisconsin Dells, just 1.5 hours from Milw and 3 hours from Chicago.

Near Cascade Mountain Ski Resort, Devilshead, Christmas Mountain! Come back from skiing for a sauna and a soak in the hot tub!!

This 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 2-story cottage has a bright, clean kitchen and a wonderful open layout on the first floor. Beautiful views out the large living room windows look onto green, sandy islands and the undeveloped distant shores of the Wisconsin River as it opens up into Lake WI. Explore the many channels, sandbars, and islands of the WI River and Lake WI. Two-person sauna on deck with great view of river and hills.

Same owner as smaller cottage next door.

SPRING, SUMMER, and FALL Adventures! Green trees, sunny sand-bars, and a lazy river await you. Tucked off the main channel the cottage has the best of both worlds…easy assess to the big water, a great view of the water and sunsets, but little boat traffic. Because of our shallow waterfront location, the choice is yours, launch your boat at one of 3 nearby boat launchs and head left for Lake Wisconsin or go right for the Wisconsin River. You’ve got it all right here! You can launch your boat daily and spend an exciting day on the open water of the lake (too shallow to get a boat of any size into our channel but you can park your trailer in front at the end of the day) or a quiet day exploring the Dells-like bluffs and the nearby islands, coves, and backwaters in your canoe or kayak. The shallow water in front is perfect for kayaks and canoes.

Enjoy shallow water fishing from the pier or while wading or head out in a boat to hit several of the best local fishing spots all within 5 minutes of the cottage: The Narrows, Fockes Bluffs, and Camp Rest Park. Good fishing for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, White Bass, Catfish, Largemouth, Crappie and more.

The cottage has a green lawn for yard games or for kids to run around in, plus just a block away is a park with playground equipment and wading beach, perfect for small children and dogs. Tennis and basketball courts are just a mile up the road. Bike riding opportunities on winding country roads in the area are fantastic. Up for a challenge? Circle Lake Wisconsin on your bike, it's about a 50-60 mile trip with a free ferryboat crossing as a highlight!

This two bedroom, two bathroom house has a full kitchen and an open layout. The kitchen is equipped with all you’ll need to prepare any meal you like…or grill out on waterside deck on the gas grill! Feeling lazy? Kick back and enjoy the 42” flat screen LCD HDTV or enjoy the hot tub which seats up to six people, so...relax, sip a drink, even surf the web, and watch the river go by!

Beautiful views out the large living room windows and across the 16’x25’ deck look onto green, sandy islands and the undeveloped distant shores of the Wisconsin River as it opens up into Lake Wisconsin.

FALL & WINTER FUN! After the summer crowds leave you’ll find unique beauty and tranquility on the river. Tucked in among the surrounding bluffs and hillsides you’ll find gorgeous fall colors and dazzling winter scenery. Hundreds of wooded acres across the street are home to the Red Bellied Woodpecker, Wild Turkey, and White Tailed Deer, while the ever-changing river offers views of Sandhill Cranes, Bald Eagles, Beaver, and Muskrat. Scenic drives in all directions make interesting day trips more fun! Many nearby day-trip possibilities including the Wollensheim Winery, Wisconsin Dells, Devil's Lake State Park, Baraboo Circus World Museum, and so much more. Nearby ski hills include Cascade Mountain (15 min) and Devilshead Lodge (30 min).

So much to see and so much to do! Relaxing!

Fish for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, White Bass, Catfish, Largemouth, Crappie, and more. Many nearby day-trip possibilities including the WI Dells, Devil's Lake State Park, Baraboo Circus World Museum, and more! Great bird-watching!

About Dave Weber

I grew up and still live in Highland Park, IL and went to college in Wisconsin (UW-Eau Claire). We love to camp and fish and canoe and bike and hike! This area is perfect for that. Cheryl would only let me but a cottage to enjoy this area where I've enjoyed my whole life if we could find a way to help it pay it's way. So we started renting it as a vacation home on VRBO and Homeaway and the rest is history. We love coming up and staying at our cottages (we also now own a smaller cottage next door, called Quietwater Cottage)!

Dave Weber purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Dave Weber chose Poynette

I have fished and enjoyed this beautiful area since I was a boy. We purchased this cottage to enjoy and share with others who want great memories. It is next door to our other cottage, Quietwater Cottage, which is a little smaller but equally nice.

What makes this cottage unique

The open layout this cottage with the great views of the water and islands sold us on this wonderful getaway! We loved the big deck on the water side and the gently sloping yard to the water. It's close to so many fun things to do. We provide a canoe and rowboat for our guests and shallow water in front make it easy to get out on the water and enjoy the beauty of the river and sandy islands.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My husband my 4 children and myself really had a great time at the cottage. It was a very relaxing week. The cottage is very well kept and stocked. It was great to meet you Dave and be able to put a face to the voice I spoke to so many times to arrange our week. I cant say enough good things about the cottage and the people. We had a great time and look forward to returning soon for a weekend together.

Nice family vacation home

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful views of river included magnificent bird-watching and gorgeous sunsets. The kids loved the nearby park and use of the canoe and rowboat were huge hits. A very relaxing retreat that provided all the necessary modern conveniences. The mosquitos were certainly voracious but the bug spray seemed to tame them a bit. The wine and flowers upon arrival were appreciated as well! Would definately return under the same circumstances.

Amazing:)

  • 5 of 5

I couldn't ask for a better place to stay. I'm a nature lover and happen to live by a fish and wildlife area so this was perfect:)

Lots of bird watching. We saw eagles, hooded mergansers, loons and even pelicans just up the road toward Lodi.

I didn't realize until we got to the cottage that we were located near Lodi which is where my husband and I stayed in a B&B 20 years ago for our honeymoon so it was very nostalgic.

The cottage was very spacious and had everything you would need. The hot tub was a nice way to sit outside in the cold and watch the waterfowl and sunset:)

We had such a great experience I booked another weekend to come back in the summer before we left:)

It is close to The House on the Rock and Wisconsin Dells so we took the time to visit both places.

The cottage had a pleasant and peaceful vibe and we all felt thoroughly relaxed when we headed back home.

Thank you so much for the experience:)

Clean, cozy, and relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

I came up to this wonderful lake house for a long weekend with my husband and our dog. I was greeted by a beautifully clean home and a bottle of wine from the owner( super nice guy!) which was An unexpected treat. This house had such a nice energy to it and I was immediately comfortable. The hot tub and sauna were amazing! Also, the kitchen had pretty much any amenity we could need and there was a really nice grill available for our use too! I could not say one negative thing about our stay and we will definitely be coming back!

Last Minute Surprise

  • 5 of 5

We booked this peaceful cottage for a last minute getaway, and we are so glad that we did! The serene river island view along with the wonderful cacophony of migrating waterfowl and local birds was very cathartic. The owners have clearly taken the time to think of all of the little things that make a stay enjoyable, easy, and relaxing. The manager even checked in to make sure that we had everything that we needed. We loved exploring Devil’s Lake State Park and visiting the Aldo Leopold Foundation. We look forward to returning in the future!
