Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms, 2 baths, sleeps 4-6. Waterfront with great view and open layout!

Rent this furnished cottage to enjoy the beauty of nature on the Wisconsin River and Lake Wisconsin. Conveniently located on the Lake Wisconsin waterfront between Madison and the Wisconsin Dells, just 1.5 hours from Milw and 3 hours from Chicago.

This 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 2-story cottage has a bright, clean kitchen and a wonderful open layout on the first floor. Beautiful views out the large living room windows look onto green, sandy islands and the undeveloped distant shores of the Wisconsin River as it opens up into Lake WI. Explore the many channels, sandbars, and islands of the WI River and Lake WI. Two-person sauna on deck with great view of river and hills.

Same owner as smaller cottage next door.

SPRING, SUMMER, and FALL Adventures! Green trees, sunny sand-bars, and a lazy river await you. Tucked off the main channel the cottage has the best of both worlds…easy assess to the big water, a great view of the water and sunsets, but little boat traffic. Because of our shallow waterfront location, the choice is yours, launch your boat at one of 3 nearby boat launchs and head left for Lake Wisconsin or go right for the Wisconsin River. You’ve got it all right here! You can launch your boat daily and spend an exciting day on the open water of the lake (too shallow to get a boat of any size into our channel but you can park your trailer in front at the end of the day) or a quiet day exploring the Dells-like bluffs and the nearby islands, coves, and backwaters in your canoe or kayak. The shallow water in front is perfect for kayaks and canoes.

Enjoy shallow water fishing from the pier or while wading or head out in a boat to hit several of the best local fishing spots all within 5 minutes of the cottage: The Narrows, Fockes Bluffs, and Camp Rest Park. Good fishing for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, White Bass, Catfish, Largemouth, Crappie and more.

The cottage has a green lawn for yard games or for kids to run around in, plus just a block away is a park with playground equipment and wading beach, perfect for small children and dogs. Tennis and basketball courts are just a mile up the road. Bike riding opportunities on winding country roads in the area are fantastic. Up for a challenge? Circle Lake Wisconsin on your bike, it's about a 50-60 mile trip with a free ferryboat crossing as a highlight!

This two bedroom, two bathroom house has a full kitchen and an open layout. The kitchen is equipped with all you’ll need to prepare any meal you like…or grill out on waterside deck on the gas grill! Feeling lazy? Kick back and enjoy the 42” flat screen LCD HDTV or enjoy the hot tub which seats up to six people, so...relax, sip a drink, even surf the web, and watch the river go by!

Beautiful views out the large living room windows and across the 16’x25’ deck look onto green, sandy islands and the undeveloped distant shores of the Wisconsin River as it opens up into Lake Wisconsin.

FALL & WINTER FUN! After the summer crowds leave you’ll find unique beauty and tranquility on the river. Tucked in among the surrounding bluffs and hillsides you’ll find gorgeous fall colors and dazzling winter scenery. Hundreds of wooded acres across the street are home to the Red Bellied Woodpecker, Wild Turkey, and White Tailed Deer, while the ever-changing river offers views of Sandhill Cranes, Bald Eagles, Beaver, and Muskrat. Scenic drives in all directions make interesting day trips more fun! Many nearby day-trip possibilities including the Wollensheim Winery, Wisconsin Dells, Devil's Lake State Park, Baraboo Circus World Museum, and so much more. Nearby ski hills include Cascade Mountain (15 min) and Devilshead Lodge (30 min).

So much to see and so much to do! Relaxing!

Fish for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, White Bass, Catfish, Largemouth, Crappie, and more. Many nearby day-trip possibilities including the WI Dells, Devil's Lake State Park, Baraboo Circus World Museum, and more! Great bird-watching!

About Dave Weber

I grew up and still live in Highland Park, IL and went to college in Wisconsin (UW-Eau Claire). We love to camp and fish and canoe and bike and hike! This area is perfect for that. Cheryl would only let me but a cottage to enjoy this area where I've enjoyed my whole life if we could find a way to help it pay it's way. So we started renting it as a vacation home on VRBO and Homeaway and the rest is history. We love coming up and staying at our cottages (we also now own a smaller cottage next door, called Quietwater Cottage)!

Dave Weber purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Dave Weber chose Lake Wisconsin

I have fished and enjoyed this beautiful area since I was a boy. We purchased this cottage to enjoy and share with others who want great memories. It is next door to our other cottage, Quietwater Cottage, which is a little smaller but equally nice.

What makes this cottage unique

The open layout this cottage with the great views of the water and islands sold us on this wonderful getaway! We loved the big deck on the water side and the gently sloping yard to the water. It's close to so many fun things to do. We provide a canoe and rowboat for our guests and shallow water in front make it easy to get out on the water and enjoy the beauty of the river and sandy islands.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My husband my 4 children and myself really had a great time at the cottage. It was a very relaxing week. The cottage is very well kept and stocked. It was great to meet you Dave and be able to put a face to the voice I spoke to so many times to arrange our week. I cant say enough good things about the cottage and the people. We had a great time and look forward to returning soon for a weekend together.

Nice family vacation home

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful views of river included magnificent bird-watching and gorgeous sunsets. The kids loved the nearby park and use of the canoe and rowboat were huge hits. A very relaxing retreat that provided all the necessary modern conveniences. The mosquitos were certainly voracious but the bug spray seemed to tame them a bit. The wine and flowers upon arrival were appreciated as well! Would definately return under the same circumstances.

Field and Stream Meet Modern Conveniences

  • 5 of 5

This comfortable cottage is situated in what appears to be a small fishing village mostly composed of other unassuming homes and small fishing boats hugging the edge of the Wisconsin River. Traveling with my neighbor, her pre-teen daughter and 2 dogs, we approached our first morning after arrival with a brisk October walk down the country road that leads to the cottage. Just a short distance down this winding road is a small playground/park that provides a small riverside "beach" area for water play on warmer days and access for boats. There is even a small supply of life vests to use and return on the honor system. Further down the road we discovered the tennis courts, as described, in the overview.

Not detailed in the overview, however, is the neighborly flavor of the this community. With every car that passed by; every walker that we met; every neighbor that was tidying up or relaxing in his/her yard, we received a friendly wave or hello. One gentleman, who like many of his neighbors had built an outdoor fire to enjoy on that Sunday morning, offered a place for us to roast marshmallows if we wished. We (regretfully) declined with smiles and made our way back to our sun-filled abode.

A delightful breakfast of pancakes cooked on the griddle provided in our cottage's kitchen followed our beautiful autumn walk. These were enjoyed in the sunny dining area; a gas fireplace chasing away any morning chill from the room. That was followed by a pursuit to acquire a few groceries found at an Aldi easily accessed from the nearby highway, just 20 minutes away. There were many other shopping options on this same road but we opted out of exploring and chose to get back to the hot tub ASAP!

The rest of our long weekend was spent soaking in the tub; listening to music on the stereo; more cooking/baking in the kitchen; lounging in the cozy loft watching a movie; hiking at devils lake (a must while being so close); enjoying views and hanging out with the dogs on the enclosed deck; grilling burgers on the convenient gas weber grill; and finally, roasting marshmallows over fires each night by the riverside.

This cottage offered a beautiful rural experience (for a few city dwellers) without compromising modern conveniences. It just made life easy for a bit. We hope to return for more such moments.

My girls very much enjoyed our stay. It was close to a lot of small towns for day trips which we enjoyed. The nights were very quiet and calm which is what we were looking for. Home was well furnished with everything you could need. Very comfortable place to spend time

A nice family spot for a quiet get away. Liked that it was close enough to the Dells for occasional day trips. Had a lovely time.

Great mini family getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful views! Kids loved the sandy island which you can easily walk to in the shallow waters which is great for kids! We all enjoyed the hot tub and boat! We made a day trip up to Devils Lake for hiking which I highly recommend! Our only regret was not staying longer! We also celebrated our son's 10th birthday here. We will definitely be back sooner than later that's for sure! Thank you for letting us stay and enjoy your relaxing property!
