About the property

Right on the fjord, 12 minutes from the centre

- Beach house within the city of Oslo

- Located right on the water

- Excellent opportunities for swimming, diving and fishing from the property

- Only 12 minutes by bus from Oslo city centre

- Uniquely attractive place to stay in all seasons

Welcome to stay in our fantastic waterfront fjord cottage! It is located within the city limits of Oslo, and it is a truly rare kind of property in the city landscape. You will be staying right on the water (literally only a couple of metres away) and the property has a long shoreline with excellent opportunities for swimming, diving, kayaking, and boating. Uniquely attractive place to stay in all seasons!

The property is located only 12 minutes by bus away from the centre of Oslo, and there are frequent bus departures from just outside the property from early morning to late evening.

The charming outdoor area has 180 degrees of stunning views of the fiord and its islands.

There is an outdoor kitchen with a gas grill, an outdoor hot-water shower, a heat lamp, a dining area, reclining chairs and much more.

There is a boat and a kayak available for rent.

The fjord cottage was built at a time when the City of Oslo still permitted construction right on the water. Such construction is no longer allowed, rendering this a particularly rare and unique property.

The interior has later been re-designed by architect Andreas Tingulstad. While the fjord cottage is not very large, the design strives to make the most out of every cubic millimeter.

The interior is modern, has specially designed furniture, and is well lit with lighting from Expo Nova. A combined heat pump and air conditioning unit ensures comfortable indoor temperatures around the year.

The kitchen has a Miele induction cooktop, an oven, a microwave oven, a dishwasher, refrigerator and freezer, a coffee machine, knives, china, and glassware.

In the living room, there is a Sony flatscreen integrated into the wall. The dining area (which can actually seat up to 10 persons) has a panoramic alcove with an 180 degree view of the Oslo fjord, including its islands and the buildings of downtown Oslo. The dining table can be lowered and converted into a romantic double bed for two adults.

The bathroom features Bisazza mosaic, sandblasted glass and Philippe Stark interior design.

There are several opportunities for your sleeping arrangements.

First, there is a bedroom with four bunk beds (and spacious sliding-door storage under the lower beds).

Second, there is a mezzanine sleeping loft which sleeps up to four people in two comfortable double beds. The loft is perched above the living area and is accessed by a ladder. Each bed features an overhead ceiling window which offers the opportunity to fall asleep right under the stars.

Third, the dining area can be converted into a double bed and then offers the opportunity to enjoy the stunning views also while you fall sleep and wake up.

There are light-proof roller blinds on every window. Used in conjunction with the air conditioning, it makes it easy to regulate both light and temperature even in the middle of summer.

The fjord cottage is ideal for couples, families and groups of up to four or five friends. It can technically sleep up to eight people, but the sleeping arrangements become intimate if there are that many guests.

While this property is a heavenly place to spend time by the sea in the warmer part of the year, it is a uniquely attractive place to stay in all seasons. The immediate vicinity to the water provides for stunning views in all kinds of weather. Some winters, the fiord is covered by ice thick enough to allow skating, skiing, ski sailing and kite snowboarding. The combination of heated floors and the powerful heat pump ensures comfortable indoor temperature all winter long.

Guests have access to our beautiful garden, and to the fantastic swimming, diving and fishing opportunities that are available from the property.

As mentioned above, guests may also rent a kayak or boat from us. (In the interest of safety, rental presupposes that you have previous experience with kayaking or boating.)

Absolutely awesome villa in perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Being Australian we wanted Oslo for the cold, and we got it. Fantastic. The cottage is well appointed and has every thing one could want. We cooked in a few nights because Oslo is expensive to eat out and the cottage was perfect for this. You will be hard pressed to find a better position and outlook for holiday accommodation. The cottage is not cheap, but definitely worth it. It snowed all night our last night and we woke to a pristine snow covered landscape. We had great enjoyment making a snowman on the end of the jetty as a present to Truls and Kåre :)

Cosy Cottage in Beautiful Location

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Oslo and Kåre and Truls were perfect hosts and made our visit so easy and enjoyable.

The property was very clean and well maintained and was cleverly designed to squeeze use out of every space. The location on the fjord was amazing and the views at sunrise and sunset were breathtaking. It was so relaxing to be able to hear the sea as we rested in the warmth of the cottage and watched the waves breaking on the shore.

The property is a short bus ride into Oslo town centre and with the bus stop right outside the gate it made travelling into town very simple. Our stay was fairly short, but we managed to squeeze in quite a bit of sightseeing.

The kitchen was compact, but well equipped, and we cooked breakfast and dinner for our family of four very comfortably each day.

I would definitely recommend this great quality property to anyone who would like to visit this region of Norway and who would like to see a bit more than just Oslo city centre.

Thank you Kåre and Truls for a fantastic holiday.

a perfect sanctuary

  • 5 of 5

Truls and Kare provided warm greetings on our arrival. The cottage is an ideal holiday home & very well appointed. The location provides exquisite views, it is quiet and serene. Easy access to the bus stop makes traveling around Oslo wonderful to navigate. We highly recommend enjoying breakfast with our hosts. We did this on our first morning and learned local details which helped inform our time there. Truls & Kare were most helpful and easily accessible. If your time allows, do secure the Oslo Pass which provides you bus, train & museum access at discounted rates.

The experience will always hold very dear memories as we were able to locate my grandfather's family farm in Eidsvol. Finishing each day, enjoying a glass of wine on the deck while gazing out over the pristine water was heavenly. When we return in the future, we hope the cottage is available!

Like staying in a postcard

  • 5 of 5

We were blown away the minute we arrived at the cottage. The location is beyond stunning and the views from all the windows are amazing. Although it was very cold outside the cottage was warmed up nicely by a heater and the bathroom had underfloor heating so perfect when you step out the shower.

Truls and Kare were the perfect hosts who we had a lovely Norwegian breakfast and great conversation with.

Location wise the bus stop is right outside and you can be in the centre of Oslo within 15mins which is perfect as you can relax here away from the hustle and bustle of the city but still be near enough to go exploring.

One of the best places we have ever stayed in and would not hesitate to come back.

Truly amazing place!

  • 5 of 5

Truls and Kare were wonderful hosts at this special "bath house". The place is very well designed and stylish, with the most amazing situation and view. The photos say it all. We swam every day in the fjord and loved watching the changing weather across the water. It was very convenient for the city centre and we took full advantage of the Oslo Pass using public transport to visit 8 museums over 2 days!! We would not hesitate to stay again. Thank you.
