Gorgeous beach house situated less than a minutes walk to the stunning sandy shores of Camber Sands Beach. The house is designed in an open plan arrangement and has been extensively renovated in a relaxed shabby chic style, filled antique and vintage furniture. The back of the house has 3 sets of french doors which open out on to the good sized back garden with a decked patio area, while the front french doors lead on to another decked area that enjoys views of the sand dunes and is a great place to enjoy the evening sunshine with a glass of wine. The wood panelled interior, painted in gentle shades of grey and white adds to the beach theme, enhancing the overall seaside experience. There is off street parking for up to 3 cars. Accommodation comprises master Bedroom boasting a kingsize bed and french doors that open to reveal a juliet balcony overlooking the sand dunes, while glazed d,ouble doors lead on to the en-suite bathroom complete with roll-top bath. Second double bedroom, one twin bedroom, one double bunk bed room (sleeping 4 although the top bunks are only 175cm long) and another 4th bedroom/snug downstairs with a 4 foot wide double sofa bed. There are also an additional 2 extra shower rooms shower rooms with WCs. Despite its reclaimed emphasis comfort has not been compromised and the house boasts a stainless steel Smeg cooker, 2 fridge/freezers, dishwasher, washer/dryer, underfloor heating, wood burning stove and cotton sheets on all the beds. Please note we also have another house in Camber only 5 minutes walk away that can work really well in conjunction for larger groups.
We are a local family. We have 4 children and we just love the area with its copious beaches. The ancient town of Rye is one of our favourite spots with its cobbled streets, antique shops and many restaurants.
Atlanta and Dave Coote purchased this house in 2013
Camber Sands Beach is great place to go with the kids for an old fashioned bucket and spades holiday. We love the location of this wooden clad house as it is so perfectly situated to enjoy the beach anytime of day and in particular early in the morning and in the evening when the the hoards of other visitors have gone home! We also really love the ancient town of Rye with its quirky shops, tea rooms and restaurants. We actually run a photographic locations agency and interior design business for our day jobs and this house has been photographed many times for magazines and catalogues like Boden and The White Company.
This house has a wonderful Long Island feel on the outside with a French/Swedish twist to the interior and We have extensively re-decorated the interior with vintage furnishings and with the emphasis on reclaimed materials. However it is the perfect spot for a good old fashioned English 'buckets and spades' holiday that childhood dreams are made of. It is in a quiet location very close to the sea and when the tide is in you can hear the waves crashing on to the shore. Although on a residential road (there are neighbours both sides of this detached house) it never feels overlooked and its village locations means it is quiet without being remote. It has beautiful views across the sand dunes at the front. The whole property is fully fenced in and a picket fence separates the main garden from the parking area so you can feel secure letting little ones roam freely.
The perfect property for a girls' weekend away - we loved the vintage chic of the house, and everything was spotlessly clean for us. Good location right on the beach (although no sea views because of massive dunes). Loved that kitchen and living areas decked out with all mod cons like bose sound system etc.
We all had a fabulous time at The Grey House and enjoyed the nearby beaches every day. The weather was glorious and we certainly picked one of the best weeks of the summer. Good facilities within a short walk with several pubs and cafes as well as good fish shops.
The house itself was practical with plenty of room for the family. The bedding and towels were all good quality and spotless. My only comment is about some of the pans that were available for cooking. As we had a large group it was sometimes difficult to fit everything on the stove. We took most of our own groceries as we were advised that Camber had few shopping facilities and topped up our supplies in Peacehaven during the week. So pleased that we did this as shopping locally was quite expensive.
I booked the Grey House for a long weekend to celebrate my 60th birthday with friends and family. We had a perfect time. The house was tastefully decorated, just in my style, in neutral colours. The location was excellent. Near enough to the (perfect) beach to be very convenient but out of the way of noisy crowds down the road by the pub and car park. Rye and Winchelsea both close by and we spent enjoyable days there and a great meal on Saturday night at the George in Rye. We had wonderful mornings eating our breakfast out on the patio and the evenings were quiet and peaceful with no light pollution. The bedrooms were spotlessly clean, comfortable (albeit pillows a bit hard) but we had everything we needed - lots of space, towels, good showers and great kitchen with all amenities. Weather was glorious which obviously helped make the weekend so memorable. Prior to departure my questions were promptly answered by Lucy and my deposit was returned within a week of my return. I would definitely consider returning, for longer next time and highly recommend this house to others who are looking for a peaceful getaway.
Not a good start for a child friendly property. Within an hour of arriving, one of the children pinched their thumb in the fold up "dining chairs". The lawn needed cutting and the children were stung by the nettles while playing. Finally the garden table was broken and nails were sticking out, also nails were sticking out of the fence.
I phoned the "help line" and an extremely helpful gentleman came to our assistance. He cut the lawn, removed the nails sticking out of the fence, replaced the garden table. He also replaced the toaster which kept tripping out the electric. The "dining chairs" we replaced with the garden chairs which were safe and more comfortable.
Although we had a bad start we enjoyed our stay. House clean, nice white bed linen and towels, bathrooms good with powerful showers.
In my opinion it is a four bedroom property, that will sleep 10 ( one bedroom has two bunk beds ) .
Shabby chic is one thing but the lounge suite is ready for the skip.
Finally two out of the three cars, sustained front under body damage due to the gradient of the frontage parking.
Unlikely to return.
We enjoyed a wonderful week at the Grey House. The house is decorated to a very high standard and has plenty of comfortable living space. The kitchen is fitted out well and has a big dining table which seats 12 people comfortably. The master bedroom is very spacious with a big freestanding bath in the en suite bathroom. The two showers are excellent - very powerful. The bunk room is fine for children but be aware that the two top bunks are very short so will not suit teenagers. The best thing about the house is its location just across from the sand dunes and beach. The beach is stunning and being a few minutes away makes it easy to enjoy at any time of the day - it was a treat to go for an early morning walk before anyone else was up. There are pubs, shops and cafés all within walking distance which is very handy. Lovely Rye is a quick drive up the road, plus Dungeness, Hastings and Romney Marsh also nearby. All in all, perfect for a family retreat. We will be back soon!
Whilst initially disappointed that there was no sea view the joy the kids got from the dunes more than compensated.
The house had excellent facilities (lost count of the number of tvs), good wi-fi, comfortable beds and roomy modern bathrooms. Very clean and well maintained.
All 9 of us thought the house was delightful. Listing is understated and does not fully convey the charm of it's shabby chic decor.
Thoroughly recommend The Owl, just a couple of properties distant.
Good beer and food with owners and staff friendly and helpful.
Rye on a sunny Sunday morning was a delight. Tourist Information centre and light show informative and enthusiastic.
Simply Italian restaurant very good, though (deservedly) very busy. Booking essential.
Also recommend the Rye Community bus for a large party. £5 per adult head to and from Rye. Children free.
Bodiam Castle (NT) well worth a visit.
