Furnished with country antiques and original art, this vacation rental home has two bedrooms, each with its own full bath plus a den with twin bed convertible chairs. The queen size sofa bed in the living room affords a glorious waterfall view framed by spectacular spring, summer and autumn foliage. The separate dining room seats six. French doors open to a romantic wraparound porch with majestic mountain, river and waterfall views! Enjoy breakfast on our romantic, wraparound porch, or lunch at the Circle W General Store. Stroll over to The Fernwood Restaurant for dinner or drinks.

'ThinkBig!' creator Bob Malkin and former Emmy award winning film editor, author and former professor Barbara Pokras met and married in 1992. After relocating to New York City in 1997, we discovered the Catskills and in a single weekend, bought our first house. We love the proximity to Manhattan, the beauty of the area and the access to nature. Bob loves to hike the mountain with our dog Lucy, and Barbara
spends time gardening, writing for the Woodstock Film Festival, and finding little 'treasures' for The Waterfall House.
Bob Malkin and Barbara Pokras purchased this house in 2006
We never dreamed we'd be in the Vacation Rental business, but when we first saw The Waterfall House with its magnificent setting and old perennial gardens, we simply couldn't resist.
Fantastic waterfall and mountain views. Sleep to the sounds of falling water. Most guests tell us our photographs don't do justice to the spectacular setting.
Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your lovely home.
The house is clean and comfortable and decorated so beautifully. There are so many great books to read and movies to watch. And then, of course, there is the main attraction, which is the falls. We had so much fun hopping from rock to rock, or just sitting and meditating. Our dog Conrad is a little timid around water, so we didn't know what kind of reaction he would have. But he loved it! By the last day, he was hopping on the rocks too. (Maybe next time, he'll dare to go into the river!)
We are already talking about renting again in May!
Thank you again and again!
The Waterfall House is perfect - the waterfall is great, changes daily, and so relaxing to watch. All your needs are anticipated and addressed, the accomodations are top notch. Very comfortable. We had a great girls' getaway, enjoying good food, wine and conversation.Took a trip to Woodstock and enjoyed the shops and local flavor. Just a great house, great time.
We first stayed at the Waterfall House two years ago. We returned this fall 2016 and was not disappointed.. It was as wonderful as we remembered. The warm welcome (beautiful fall day, windows open, breeze blowing through the house and friendly greeting from Margie), the beautiful grounds and falls, the lovely fun house, the quiet, semi-private space all made the second visit to this charming place perfect.
My wife and I stayed here in July 2016 and never saw fit to leave the premises. The house and porch are beautifully built and decorated, extremely comfortable and have spectacular views. The sound of the waterfalls below is a soothing constant in the background. The bedrooms are warm., the bathrooms clean, and the country kitchen large and homey. The cable TV and internet worked very well. Hanging out in the rocks below and swimming in the water hole was wonderful. We will be back.
What a great getaway from NYC...only a few hours drive. Palenville is centrally located, and within 30 minutes of so many places to explore...Hunter Mountain, Saugerties, Woodstock, Hudson, Rhinebeck...we loved Fernwood, the family-run restaurant, just steps from our front door. The owners were very attentive hosts and made our stay most comfortable. Kept our dogs on-leash, most of the time, and walked each individually after dark, given how dark it was and knowing that animals were lurking...didn't see them, but did smell skunk. If you do go, you'll probably say that the pictures don't do it justice...
My wife recently completed a four week stay at this property and we genuinely enjoyed ourselves. The house is as described in the ad but the sound of the water cascading down the falls and adjacent to the porch are even better than advertised! Bob and Barbara are gracious hosts. They managed to make themselves available as we needed without hovering. We benefited from their suggestions about how to spend our time, answwering questions we had not thought about before arriving. We had a few suggestions such as sharpening the knives and they took care of them within a few hours. Remarkably helpful.
The home was meticulously kept, the decor is whimsical and fun. The setting was stunning with the waterfall as the star of the show. The owner's were avail for any questions we had. Local restraurants were very good. The hiking was exceptional. We really enjoyed the hippie-town of New Paltz as a base for our climbing adventures in the "Gunks". The home is very well stocked with a wide variety of music, books, movies and maps. We can't wait to return to this very special property.
