Kauai Beaches: Poipu Kai resort fronts on two well known beaches... Shipwreck Beach and Brennecke Beach, each an excellent bodysurfing beach. Next to Brennecke beach is Poipu Beach Park, rated the best beach in North America for four years running. It features a sheltered "baby beach" for toddlers and parents, a fully equipped children's playground, and a great snorkeling and swimming beach with every variety of tropical fish usually only seen in aquariums. Surfing is also an excellent option at Poipu Beach with a surf shop and board rentals just across the street from the beach.
Kauai Golfing: There are two championship 18-hole courses available near the resort: The Kiahuana Golf Course and the prestigious Poipu Bay Resort Course. Guests need to arrange with the individual courses for tee times. Within driving distance are several other courses in Princeville, Kalaheo, and Kapa'a.
Kauai Restaurants: Brennecke's restaurant is a great place for lunch or dinner at the beach; good burgers, fish and drinks. They have a great crab meal for dinner. Don't forget Lapperts' ice cream for a real treat. It's fresh made in Hanapepe and definitely a landmark destination. They are located throughout the island: Hanapepe, Poipu (just a couple of miles from the house), Kapa'a, Princeville, Hanalei, etc.
Island activities: For the shoppers there are some very nice boutiques in the Poipu Village shopping center just West on Poipu Road. There are also boutique shops at the surrounding resorts, e.g., Hyatt, Sheraton and the Marriott. Food shopping is nearby at the Big Save supermarket in Koloa, just a couple of miles up the bypass road. If you are energetic and want some exercise Kauai offers a great series of hikes and drives, some with breathtaking views. Try the hike along the beach and cliffs east past the Hyatt. It is about 4 miles and the reward is a wonderful white sand beach. There is a spectacular hike/drive up the Waimea Canyon (the grand canyon of the Pacific). At the end of the road hike the trail about 4 miles which will take you to a lookout over the Na Pali Coast. Also refer to the Kauai Guide Book located in the house for more fun things to do.
Juliana and Jim own 2 homes in Kauai and manage a number of other beautiful homes and condos. They began visiting the Garden Island in 1997 and now are permanent residents. Juliana is a licensed real estate broker in Hawaii. Her special enjoyment is gardening. She loves to share the many wonderful features of Kauai with her visitors, especially the great beauty of the local botanical gardens. Jim is a builder of many years and now enjoys semi-retirement while keeping his hands busy with the occasional remodel. Now they living their dream and have recently moved to beautiful Kauai.
Kauai is truly the 'garden island', with its many beautiful water features and planned construction which virtually eliminates high rises. The warm sandy beaches and friendly local residents always make you feel comfortable away from home. Poipu has one of the best swimming and snorkeling beaches in Kauai.
Jim & Juliana,
We recently stayed at #123, in fact we left yesterday. I noticed the notebook to write about our experiences but being a person with possibly the worst handwriting in the world and the fact we had so many wonderful times I thought I would email instead.
First my wife and I stayed at another location for 3 days celebrating our marriage in August. Then we moved to your place because some of our children were coming over to celebrate with us. We have a combined total of 9 now that our 2 familes are together. Most are grown and out of the house but we still have a few living with us. No one except my wife has been to Kauai before so we were all looking forward to our stay. Before the kids came over my wife and I drove all over looking for the best beaches for our various personalities and experience. We put over 350 miles on the car in 3 days. An amazing island. Once the 4 other kids came we were nonstop action. Your location is perfect for getting to all the places we wanted to go. If you want to see some of the stuff we did you can look at my son's instagram account where he's posted several adventures. (Anfieldorbust) I don't know anything about instagram so I hope you do. We snorkeled almost everyday and most often it was 2 or 3 times per day just so we could visit as many places as possible. We ate so many wonderful dinners everywhere from Hanalei (several times) to right around the condo. We all agreed that not once did we have a meal we didn't absolutely love. If it wasn't for all the activity I think I would have gained 10 pounds but instead I lost weight. Even on days like the day we checked out Waimea Canyon, we still managed to snorkel on 3 different beaches. In all total with the 6 of us we saw 8 or more turtles with the last one coming our last morning sunning himself on Brennekes beach. Huge 5' or 6' long Green Sea Turtle. Amazing. Stuff done, not in order. Coffee Plantation tour, Waimea canyon then shrimp tacos at shrimp station, (best on earth) hiked the 4 miles of the na pali, kayaked the wailua river and then jumped off cliffs, swam and jumped from cliffs into the Queens Bath, hiked to some falls that our kayak guide told us about and jumped some more cliffs, boogied boarded 5 different beaches, visited 10 different beaches, snorkeled 8 different beaches, ate at a different restaurant every night, watched a sunset almost every evening from a different location.
I was delighted to spend a week here with my family and another couple! Very thoughtful, responsive hosts, spacious and airy, walkable to the beach, well-equipped kitchen, beach gear bonus, & great grills for barbecuing by the poolside. Would come back again!
We had such a great time. There was more than enough room for our family of 5. It was a close walk to one of our favorite beaches. The kitchen was well stocked including utensils for the bbq. We went to one of the pools almost every night to cook. The location was fantastic. It was a short drive to Old Koloa town where there are a couple of grocery stores with decent prices (for Hawaii). The boogie boards, beach chairs, and sand toys were a great addition as well. We also took advantage of the discount for the car rental through Dollar. It beat any deal that we could find, including our airline employee discount. When we return, which we will, we will definitely stay here again. It more than met our expectations.
Great condo - great owners - great location.
My husband, our daughter, her husband and two children shared this three bedroom condo for two weeks. There was more than enough room for everyone and with two and a half bathrooms we were more than comfortable. The fully equipped kitchen was super. It is well decorated with lots of comfortable furniture. Extra pillows for the beds, etc. The beach toys (for adults and kids) were fabulous and added to our enjoyment. Unfortunately we did not discover the cupboard that had puzzles and indoor games until the last day....perhaps a good thing. Great location for walking - lots of paths with the beach only 10 minutes away. Did a nice morning walk to Starbucks (more than once)...along the road for part of it but nice route. Two great pools within 1 minute of the unit as well. We did rent a car which you need to get to the grocery stores and sight seeing. If we come as a family we would definitely stay here again. Love, Love, Loved it!! We would highly recommend walking to the Hyatt for the parrot show and coi fish feeding. That was fun for us adults too. Beach House restaurant is a very romantic place for dinner with great food and a great setting. Not recommended for children.
This condo was beyond our expectations! Jim and Juliana were very helpful with arrival time and the place was incredibly clean, well maintained and the kitchen had everything we needed, along with some starter supplies! Very roomy, beds were extremely comfortable. Location was an easy walk to various beaches and restaurants. We would definitely stay here again! Family LOVED it!!!!!
This condo was SUPER clean upon our arrival!! We loved staying here for our trip. The kitchen was clean and had everything we could possibly need. The rooms were cute and spacious. The location is awesome, walk to the beach, walk to the Hyatt for a luau. Almost sunny every day. We would for sure stay here again! Loved it!!!
My family of 5, all adults, rented this condo for 8 nights. The entry was on the 2nd floor but unless stairs are an obstacle for you, dont let that deter you. It was absolutely perfect! Rooms were clean and decor lovely. Beds were very comfortable. Kitchen had everything we needed. A wonderful perk was having starter supplies of laundry detergent, kitchen and bathroom soap, and essential toiletries. Depending on your length of stay, number of guests, and how often you cook your own meals, the supply may be adequate for you. Water toys were provided, including boogie boards! Beach towels were also provided.
The view of the mountains from the front lanai was very nice. The paths throughout the grounds were beautiful. It was a wonderful 10 minute walk on these paths to Poipu beach, where we caught the sunrise and sunset standing in the same spot! Beach was beautiful for swimming and snorkeling. We also tried boogie boarding, which was a lot of fun.
Jim and Juliana were so easy to work with and their response time getting back to us was very timely. They emailed us a list of things to do, including the links, which was very nice. All of us agree that if and/or when we return to Kauai, we will definitely stay here again! It was home away from home!
