About this property

Traditional miner's cottage in the heart of Cornwall by beautiful moorland

Situated at the foot of Carn Brea Moor with stunning views and moorland walks right on it's doorstep this traditional miner's cottage is the perfect home from home and great starting point for exploring Cornwall's North and South coasts. The rugged North Coast is less than 5 miles away and the beautiful coastal towns of Falmouth and St Ives are less than 30 mins by car.

The cottage is the ideal location for you if you'd like to explore lots of Cornwall in a short space of time as we're just 5 minutes from the A30 and centrally located ensuring nowhere is very far away!

It's a really light, bright and welcoming space with lots of lovely features including a granite fireplace with woodburner, wooden beams, stable doors and wooden floors. We live here when our work doesn't take us elsewhere so it feels very much like a home. We love it here and hope you will do too!

Living room:
A sunny and bright space accessed directly from the front door with a wood burning stove for cosy evenings in front of the fire. There is a double sofa and two armchairs to relax in.

Bedrooms:
There are two double bedrooms upstairs with wood floors - one at the back of the house overlooking the moor and a larger room at the front overlooking fields. The rooms are bright and tastefully decorated and furnished.

Kitchen:
The kitchen is well equipped with an induction hob, toaster, kettle, blender, electric oven, large fridge freezer and dining table with seating for up to 6. The cupboards contain all the equipment and tableware you need to dine in. We'll also provide the essentials such as salt, teabags, coffee, olive oil, sugar and all the other bits you don't particularly want to have to buy on arrival!

Bathroom:
Located at the top of the stairs is a bright bathroom with wood floors overlooking the moor with a bathtub with mixer tap and shower attachment.

Outside space:
There is a front south facing garden with lawn leading to the cottage and a back garden accessed from the kitchen which is on three levels with a paved & gravel area immediately outside the back door, a mezzanine gravel space and a lawn on the upper level. There is a Weber BBQ and table and chairs for outdoor dining.

There is also an outbuilding with a washing machine and tumble dryer.

There is off-road parking for two vehicles right outside the cottage.

Dogs:
Well behaved dogs are always welcome on the ground level of the cottage. Usually up to two dogs - please notify us beforehand.

Around and about:
We're just minutes from the A30 and very centrally located so nowhere is very far away. In under an hour you can be on the Lizard exploring Frenchman's Creek in a kayak, on a surf board at Watergate Bay or discovering the caves at Kynance Cove. We've put together our own personal guide for visitors based on fourteen years of exploration and detailing some of our favourite restaurants, beaches and hidden gems not to be missed!

If you don't fancy getting in the car you can pull on your walking boots and head out on the moor. There are paths to the top of Carn Brea where you can stand on giant granite rocks and see for miles or follow the Great Flat Lode trail - one of Cornwall's Mineral Tramway Trails which takes you on a 12km tour (on foot or by bike) of the disused mines of the county. You will pass South Wheal Frances and South Crofty mines as you head through some beautiful Cornish countryside.

Please be aware the cottage does have quite a narrow and steep staircase (with handrail) so may not be suitable for more elderly or less mobile guests.

Cottage in the middle of Cornwall
We selected this cottage because it is rather close to different parts of Cornwall. Due to the reconstruction of the major road to Cornwall it took a long time to get there, but once we knew we simply took smaller roads. We had some trouble finding it, but a quick phonecall to the owner helped us properly on our way.The cottage is well equipped and furnished. It has a small outdoors where you can sit. It sits along a fairly busy road and we did not like the traffic noice, but is close to many things and a few major supermarkets are at only about 1.5 miles from the cottage. It was spacious enough for the two of us, but it may feel a bit cramped when staying there with four adults.

Lovely cottage
A lovely cottage, a perfect base for family holidays. Only down side we found was the noise from the road at the front of the property, but we would still happily stay here again.

Liebevoll eingerichtetes Ferienhaus

My partner Charlie and I have lived in Cornwall for the past fourteen years. We run an off-grid environmental education camp for children near Truro called Camp Kernow. We live in the cottage during some of the the winter months while our summers are spent at camp living in a yurt!

We really enjoy the area where the cottage is located. The beach is just 5 miles away and Tehidy Woods is just up the road for lovely woodland walks. The moor behind the house is wild, rugged and beautiful and there is a network of paths and tracks across it - its the perfect place to be if you are a keen walker and there is easy access to vast network of cycle trails.

Why they chose this property

It's ideally located for exploring Cornwall and sits at the foot of Carn Brea moor with amazing walks for miles right on it's doorstep. Access to the main arterial A30 road is just a five minute drive away enabling you to get as far as Land's End in under an hour!

It's less than 5 miles to the beautiful sandy beach of Porthtowan where there is a tidal swimming pool and a great cafe. Tehidy Woods is just a couple of miles away with lovely woodland walks and although we are in a rural location we have great shops and facilities just a short drive away including the best pasty makers in Cornwall, local pub and a 24 hr Tesco for emergency provisions!

What makes this property unique

Access and views to the moor.
Traditional features of a miners cottage - timber beams, granite fireplace, wooden floors.
Central location for accessing North, West and South coasts.
