About this property

Pian della Chiesa, Concara - nature, wine, paths, sea and shared pool

Romantic cottage in the hedge of a basin in the oak woods of the Montemarcello Natural Park. Perfect for forays into the Cinque Terre or neighboring villages and a wonderful place to stay at home, lounging in a hammock stretched between the trees.
Concara has been converted to be perfect for a couple, with a bedroom upstairs and a living room, bathroom with shower and kitchen on the ground floor.
A small sofa in the living room converts into a bed if you wish to book it for three, but space will be limited. The kitchen and dining room have been built into a glass extension of the main building, creating a wonderful and bright space in which to cook.
A lawn extends in front of the kitchen, bordered by low dry-stone walls in limestone that serve all around to terrace the hill.
Next to our terraced Cabernet Franc vineyard you can enjoy our shared 10mx 3m pool with 4 sun loungers and a Balinese bed.

We produce a fine organic red wine called 'Margot'. Very fast Starlink WiFi, ideal for remote working.
Concara is equipped with a welcoming and efficient wood-burning oven. Wood logs are free.
Central heating is available but not included. A meter reading will determine the cost (€5 per m3). Alternatively, a lump sum can be quoted.
CITR code: 011016-AGR-0003
- Pian della Chiesa is a 40 hectares estate that sits on top of the Caprione peninsula, 900 meters from the Mediterranean and 350 meters above sea level.
It has different accommodation solutions: Murella (host 6), Dolinetta (host 4), Bungalow (host 4) and Concara (host 2).
It is in an ideal position for exploring the hill villages and coast of the Cinque Terre, Liguria and Northern Tuscany.
Set in a Natural Park that is mainly made up of typical Mediterranean woods of umbrella pines, helms and Turkish oaks, woven with paths, and bordering the beautiful and steep coastline of Southern Liguria. It is ideally set for exploring the small villages on the coast, with delicious fish restaurants and hidden coves from which to swim.
The Cinque Terre are easily reachable, with miles of walking paths on the craggy coastline, punctuated by villages clinging to the edge of the coast, with steep vineyards where the grapes are collected in mini-funicular train arrangements.
Alternatively you might head east, towards the Apennines and the Apuan Alps, made of the famous Carrara marble so loved by Michelangelo. Deep valleys hold traces of the Romans and of the ancient indigenous population called the Lunis. The mountains also harbour delicious restaurants and charming villages worth exploring.
The classic cities of Tuscany are also not far away, with Pisa and Lucca around an hour away, while Florence is just under 2 hours.

Farmers since 2008 after years of office work.
From our grapes we have started producing an excellent natural red wine called 'Margot'. A blend of Syrah, Massaretta and Merlot vines. A small production of around 3000 bottles integrally produced in our small underground winery. No sulphates added and we are in the process of getting the bio certificate in 2020. We produce also the 'Margot Terrazze' aged 15 months in our wood 750Lt barrel.
Our extra virgin cold pressed olive oil is excellent but still negligible (55 litres only). Not yet for sale but our 250 young olives trees are growing...

We also take care of our vegetable garden, hen house and bee hives.

Why they chose this property

Ideally located within easy reach of Tuscany's famous destinations (Pisa and Lucca 1 hour/ Florence just under two), Pian della Chiesa is also an ideal base from which to explore the wild beauty of the Natural Park with its secret coves and beaches,, charming coastal villages, and forests of holm and turkey oaks, and umbrella pines. The Cinque Terre are just around the corner, with their famous villages crammed picturesquely between sea and cliff, and vineyards so steep that they have to be harvested by mini funiculars. To the east tower the Apennines and Apuan Alps, made from the shining white marble of Carrara so beloved of Michelangelo. Deeply carved valleys still have Roman remains and even vestiges of the original indigenous tribe, the Lunis.

What makes this property unique

You will be plunged in the nature surrounded by oak trees and vineyards. The area around Montemarcello is beautiful and the epitome of Mediterranean coastline - the smell of resin from the umbrella pines drifts around the limestone outcrops that hang high above the coast. Boats can take you round to secret coves at the bottom of the cliffs, and then on to little villages with wonderful fish restaurants. The Cinque Terre are at a stone's throw, with miles of walking paths on the craggy coastline, punctuated by villages clinging to the edge of the coast, with steep vineyards where the grapes are collected in mini-funicular train arrangements! Closer to home, the villages of Tellaro and Fiascherino have swimming from rocky outcrops or sandy coves and fish restaurants with local sparkling white wine. If the heat is getting too much head in opposite direction for the Apuan Alps made of white Carrara marble and dotted with medieval villages.
