We enjoyed staying in this big, well-equipped flat for five nights in January. Even in the off-season, Florence swarms with tourists, which makes the location of this apartment especially nice. It’s located just outside the Porta Romana, so you can either walk through the atmospheric gates toward the major sites or stay outside, where you’ll find all the conveniences of ordinary life—butcher, baker, and just next door a laundry where you can drop off dirty clothes and pick them up 48 hours later (a real gift to the traveler). The apartment is even bigger than it looks in the photos—unusual to have both an eat-in kitchen and dining room. I like to cook when we travel (makes me feel less like a tourist), and the roomy kitchen had everything necessary for meal preparation. So very, very quiet—entrance is on a busy street, but the apartment faces a lovely garden. It was too cold for us to take advantage of the sweet terrace—we’ll have to come back when we can take our morning coffee there. Communications with Emma were prompt, friendly, and helpful. Thanks for the pasta and wine, Emma!
We (family of 4 with college age kids) stayed for 5 nights. Apartment was comfortable and just far enough from city center and close to bus and taxi stands. Emma and her husband were charming hosts and place was as advertised. Bit cold for us but guess it is normal for Xmas time. Art on the walls and books show their refined tastes. Wi fi worked great. Two bathrooms was very useful for 4 people. Some areas to consider for improvement: Mattresses in guest room were saggy and need to be replaced. Working dishwasher and hot water in kitchen would be appreciated by families who plan to cook.. Had loud party on 2 - 3 nights in building till 3 am or so (not sure if Emma can do anything about it..). General comment for Florence visitors during Christmas - Day after (Dec 26th) is also mostly a holiday.. plan accordingly..
Although it was a bit out of the main area of Firenze, there was a taxi stand just down the street and the walk to the covered bridge was about 10 min. Emma provided a lovely welcome basket with wine, pasta and a map! She also had a book with directions to the grocery store and restaurants This was much appreciated.
Everything was exactly as I expected. Emma was fantastic in assisting with our stay and directions.
The apartment was clean and well organized.
It made our visit extra special.
We truly enjoyed our stay at "The Architect". Four of us came up for the week to attend a wedding. We were greeted with a welcome basket of pasta, tomato sauce, wine, croissants, orange juice in a well equipped kitchen, as well as a list of dining out suggestions, and WiFi password, among other things. Emma & Tomasso were very nice & helpful, gave us a tour & showed us how everything worked there (somewhat different from what we're accustomed to). One scare was we couldn't find an iron & ironing board (much needed, as one of us was the best man in the wedding). We contacted Emma & was told it was accidentally locked away. But she came through for us, sending someone over that morning to retrieve it. The apartment is exactly as portrayed and well situated, out of the more congested areas of Firenze. There is a fantastic Gelato shop at the corner (which was our evening highlight EVERY DAY). We walked into the Historic area every day instead of messing with the busses (a 15-20 minute walk), getting acquainted with all 4 nearby bridge crossings. We even walked to the SMN train station. From there we took trains to Pisa & Rome. We would recommend this apartment, as it is homey & cozy with many rooms to move about in. We would come back here again.
Emma was very good at communication from the time we booked. She met us at the apartment with her husband and they were so lovely, gave us the tour and instructions as well as a generous welcome basket of Tuscany Wine, crossaints, pasta and sauce which was so nice!
The apartment definitely has a flare to it with color and spunk in its decor. We had my family of 4 and gramma along with plenty of space and with two full baths, that was a plus! I absolutely loved the huge windows that opened in the master bedroom and the kitchen, as well as the patio off the other bedroom/office area.
The apartment was clean and the kitchen had everything we needed to make breakfasts and even one pasta meal (thanks to the gift basket!)
The only reason I left out one star is because the beds are not the best. The two twin beds in the most beautiful patio room are more like cots, than real beds. We ended up putting the thin mattress on the floor for the boys because otherwise there was no support as there was no box spring. For young kids it worked, but would not be comfortable for adults. Other than this, we truly enjoyed the apartment and our stay in Florence!!
Location... Our favorite part of the location was the amazing gelato place right at the corner of the same block. The grocery store was also a close 7 minutes walk or so and EMMA has a grocery cart rolling basket like he locals hat my boys thought was so cool to use for our shopping. You can reach all the beautiful Florence attractions and restaurants easily by foot and it is down one main road, so easy to find!
Thanks for the local living experience close to the beautiful Florence!
The city of Florence is full of all the attractions. We emphasize that the neighborhood is in the area where there is the highest concentration of green space: Boboli Gardens, Garden of Porta Romana, Viale dei Colli ... just a leisurely stroll.
