Despite its cultural, historic and scientific bragging rights, Bloomsbury has a well-healed yet understated atmosphere. The former home of literary greats such as Virginia Woolf and Charles Dickens, today it is dominated by the massive British Museum. Bloomsbury is an unspoilt corner of London, feeling more like a village. Bloomsbury is famous for its beautiful Georgian squares, world class universities, colleges and hospitals.

Bloomsbury is an often undervalued and overlooked oasis of calm in central London. The area is within the borough of Camden, one of London’s most diverse and eclectic boroughs. Basing yourself here for a holiday in London, you will be surrounded by action-packed places such as the West End, Soho, Covent Garden and the newly redeveloped King’s Cross area

Russell Square and Bloomsbury, the two large garden squares were set out and developed in the 17th century by the Russell family. Today these are flanked by stunning examples of Victorian architecture and sit either side of the fabulous British Museum, just a 10 minute walk from the apartment. Close to the apartment there are attractions such as the Charles Dickens museum (a 2 minute walk) and The Foundling Museum.

A brief 10 minute walk from the apartment brings you to the Brunswick Centre, a local hub for shopping dining and entertainment. You can find great shops such as French Connection and Joy along side cafes, a Waitrose supermarket and restaurants, including Carluccios, Itsu and giraffe. Entertainment comes in the form of the Curzon Cinema showing art house classics, foreign films and the latest Hollywood blockbusters.

A 20 minute walk or 10 minute bus ride takes you to the heart of one of London’s most famous tourist areas, Covent Garden. Find museums, the Royal Opera House, numerous theatres and the Piazza as well as a myriad of small streets to explore. You can find boutique fashion, high end designers and restaurants from around the world. Covent Garden is also on the edge of London’s theatre district, the West End. See a play, opera or musical with a pre or post theatre meal in the world’s most prominent theatre district.

Designed around Russell Square and the iconic British Museum, Bloomsbury is known for its plethora of world class institutions, such as University College London, The British Medical association and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The family friendly Bloomsbury holiday apartment is 10 minutes walk from Chancery Lane tube station. Nearby stations also include Russell Square and Farringdon stations. Getting around London is easy with quick access to the Piccadilly and Central Lines. As Euston, Kings Cross and St Pancras International (London’s Eurostar terminus) train stations are based on the northern borders of this district, travelling to the rest of the UK and Europe is easy too!

Notes:
Bloomsbury is an area of the London Borough of Camden, in central London, between Euston Road and Holborn, developed by the Russell family in the 17th and 18th centuries into a fashionable residential area. It is notable for its array of garden squares, literary connections (exemplified by the Bloomsbury Group), and numerous cultural, educational and health-care institutions. Bloomsbury was not the first area of London to have acquired a formal square, Bloomsbury Square laid out in 1660 by Thomas Wriothesley, 4th Earl of Southampton, as Southampton Square was the first square to be named as such.

Well Appointed Apartment in the Heart of London

  • 5 of 5

Although we were an hour late due to delays at the airport, our host was there to meet us the moment we arrived for which we were most thankful. The apartment is beautiful furnished and very comfortable (and quiet) and full of natural light with a well equipped kitchen, which we used every day. The apartment is handy to everything and there's a CoOp market just three blocks away. I'd stay there again in an instant.

Beautiful flat in a great centrally located neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful place - worth the climb of the stairs to the unit. Layout offer lots of privacy between the two bedrooms. Only one minor issue in our ability to control the shower water from getting all over the restroom. Once we got the hang of it there were no issues. Highly recommend.

The flat in London in Bloomsbury was very nice.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in London in this flat in Bloomsbury. The living room was very comfortable, and the small kitchen was well equipped. The second bedroom we stayed in was very small but it worked because there were plenty of drawers and we stored our suitcases in the corner of the living room. (absolutely no room in the bedroom for suitcases of any size at all.) I also liked that the two bedrooms and baths were separated by the living room. That gave good privacy. The one drawback of the flat was the 47 rather steep stairs to get to it! we were always exhausted by the time we got back in the afternoons because the nearest underground stations were about a half mile away and then to have to climb 47 stairs was overkill. We did enjoy the nearby neighborhood with its cafes and pubs. It would be a good idea for the owners to have available a little map with pubs, restaurants, and shops nearby so guests wouldn't have t discover them on their own. Also I think information on the bus system would have been helpful because buses run up and down just a block away, but we had no idea how to use them.

Great property

  • 4 of 5

This property worked out well for our family of 6, especially having 2 bathrooms! As others have noted, there are a lot of stairs getting to the 4th floor. Not a problem for us, though.

We had great communication with the owner as well. Would stay here again.

Terrific

  • 5 of 5

Home away from home! Great space, clean, well-appointed. Everything you need to make for a comfortable stay. Welcomed at the home right on time, with all the detail necessary for my family to enjoy the space. Short walk to Russell Square tube stop and the British Museum. We walked to Soho, Covent Garden and other key destinations. Highly recommended.

Roomy, quiet and great location

  • 5 of 5

A very roomy apartment in a quiet neighborhood. Nice sized bathrooms with great water pressure. The twin beds were comfortable but the full size bed in the master suite was rather lumpy. Having a washing machine was fantastic and the rack provided for drying made it easy as everything dried over night. Some great restaurants are within walking distance and it's a lovely neighborhood and felt very safe. We took Uber everywhere but the tube stops were nearby. We loved the apartment and would stay there again the next time we are in London.
