High Road House - Historical Old Bisbee - Grand View

Bedrooms 1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

High Road House sits on the highest street above downtown Old Bisbee with great views of the Mule Mountains and into the mountains of Mexico.

It is an early 1900's miner's home that has been adapted to expose optimal light and space. Walking trails through a mountain oak hillside begin directly above the house. The house is comfortable, quiet, and private.

The house includes a secluded veranda, queen-size bed, full kitchen, bathroom with claw-foot tub and shower. Original Bisbee art and murals by local artists and wildlife sculptures create an ambiance unique to Bisbee's art community. The house sits on the famous Rose Stairs, part of the Bisbee 1000. The stairway leads to the downtown area, stores, art galleries and restaurants. There is off street parking above the house.

Small but well worth it! Helen is the best hostess ever!

Owner's Response: John, Thanks for the compliment and glad you enjoyed your stay. This 1905 miners home was once a boarding house with believe it or not 5 rooms. The walls of large windows were placed where there once had been a wrap around porch, and the ceilings were raised to allow for the loft and cupola.-Helen

Serene Zen-like Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Just what the doctor ordered for a stressed out east coast techie looking for a few days R&R. If you're just looking to chill, you'd barely have to leave the house; just spend your days starring out a wall of windows over-looking Old Bisbee and the mountains all around you, high on a hill, watching the world go by. The proprietor provides a fully stocked kitchen with everything you need for breakfast, including artisan breads and scones from the local market, fresh eggs, OJ, and coffee. If you need anything else, just ask; the proprietor is extremely gracious, friendly, and responsive, offering items from her own house rather than forcing you to go shopping. The house offers all the modern conveniences, but I especially appreciated the strong-reliable wifi connection. (Even on retreat, you still need your gps to map your day trips or find some obscure Bisbee side street; and what's a zen retreat without the right music from your favorite streaming service.) I have no doubt that for my next visit, I'll try to book the High Road House first.

Enjoyed every minute in this eclectic little place perched high above Bisbee! The view is second to none, and the cute little patio a real bonus. The owner's attention to detail included some great morning eats too. Loved it!

The Green House sanctuary on High Road

  • 5 of 5

We sensed we were in for a treat just from the communications we had with the owners prior to our arrival. Then, on arrival day, all of our anticipation and fears were allayed. The photos hadn't been PhotoShopped, the reviews about the refrigerator full of provisions for our first morning meal weren't exaggerated and the warmth and attentiveness of our host and hostess were spot on.

Our three weeks did pass and we had to return to the Tundra. But during those three weeks we visited beautiful bird conservancies, caves, Chirracahua National Monument, watched stars (oh my the stars) and climbed a few stairs. One of our favorite activities was to just stay home, sit on the porch watching birds and reading our books. The people of the town were extremely friendly, and everyone knew Tom & Helen. It was an absolute treat and I know were going back again.

Memorable Sunrises & More!

  • 5 of 5

Out of all of the great options in Bisbee, how did we get so lucky to pick the High Road House? The location was excellent and after each day of exploring, the artful amenities were delightful to come home to. A well stocked fridge with everything we needed for daily breakfast was frosting on the cake. Excellent communications with Helen before and during our stay. If you haven't been to Bisbee--go there! If you have been to Bisbee, but have stayed somewhere else--stay here!

Cat bird seat

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived at High Road House there was half and half, artisan bread, eggs, jam, butter, coffee, muffins and even mustard in the refrigerator. The place was very clean and pleasing. The little porch is so pleasant and perfect to sit in and look at the town and mountains. It is so close to the action yet removed enough to be quiet and relaxing. This is the second time we have stayed here and we'll do it again. The view is beautiful. The landscaping outside of the porch is lovely and attracts so many birds and hummingbirds!
