About Bill Michels

We are a Twin Cities architect and artist who are always thrilled to spend family time in Duluth. The House and Cottage on Park Point is our little place away from home to do that. We have enjoyed remodeling and updating the house and cottage and turning it into a comfortable home with a relaxing livable atmosphere. It's given us the opportunity to do something a little different that we can share with everyone else.

Bill Michels purchased this house in 2005

Why Bill Michels chose Duluth

The beach is like nothing else in this part of the country, it's like being at the ocean. The water is warm enough to swim in, you can walk forever, and the infamous MN mosquito's are practically non existent because of the breezes off the lake. It's certainly a bonus to be a 15 minute walk down the beach to Canal Park or a short drive to the North Shore of Lake Superior.

What makes this house unique

We are just a bit unique in that there are two units we rent together. Put the kids in one or even grandma if she prefers to have her own quarters. Sometimes it's just a fight to see who gets the cottage!

And of course the location- beach, Canal Park, Lake Superior, the North Shore, restaurants...!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hey Bill,Just wanted to let you know....Anyhow that is a gorgeous place, it was the coolest design and decorating, I fell in love with it. I just wanted you to know that you did an excellent job, I felt like it was from a magazine. Thank you for letting us stay in your rental and for letting us bring our pets. We had a great time, and will tell everyone about the greatest place in Duluth. Thanks again.Megan

Fabulous two days. Best family vacation ever. Two buildings allow flexibility for day naps and for those who do not snooze. My family barely left the house, it was so comfortable. Everything we needed was there. Glorious kitchen with upscale stove and sink.

House was beautiful Bathroom in the house had wonderful tub and stonework. The cabin felt like a family cabin that you are coming back year after year. Beds were very comfortable. Nice sized yard.

We walked to Canal Park and to the lift bridge to see the ships arriving. We swam 3 times a day. Only a short walk though the dunes to a beautiful, clean beach. I miss it already.

Comfortable and cozy

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the property, despite the freezing cold temps. Having two separate houses worked perfect for us. Bill has created a very comfortable home that we would not hesitate to return to.

Spacious rental with wonderful location!

  • 5 of 5

Pictures don't do this lovely rental justice! The cottage and cabin were both very spacious with plenty of room for our party of 8 adults who love to sprawl out. The location is very close to downtown and not far from nearby attractions. The property has space for cooking, games, bonfires, grilling, and relaxing. There are dunes in the backyard, nearby parks, and many options for adventures. I loved that it was pet-friendly too!

Bill was very responsive and extremely helpful.

The only thing I would note is that the driveway has room for only two vehicles at a time. There is on-street parking (even-odd on an alternating week basis). We were there during a snow storm and were concerned about not being towed when the plows came through.

I would definitely stay here again!

Excellent space in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic place! The house and cottage are even lovelier than the photos would lead you to believe. We were a large group (11) and were all very comfortable. There was plenty of space to spend time together as a group; we also loved that the night owls could move over to the cottage later at night and continue conversations. Bill was extremely responsive and helpful when I had questions before and during the trip. The location is also wonderful - despite the snow storm, a group of us rallied and walked across the bridge for dinner followed by drinks at Vikre. Many guests also enjoyed walking to the beach with a cup of coffee in the morning. I also noticed many games/books which would have been great had we any down time during the weekend. I highly recommend this property!
