Thing to Do : Things to do

In addition to its original draw as a unique island hideaway, Montserrat has become an enchanting destination for eco and volcano tourism. The Soufriere hills volcano has created a showcase of Mother natures marvels.

Eco trails continue to be a major attraction as they have been over the years. Mountain Biking, Hiking & sight seeing tours of the Tropical rain forest in and around the Center and Silver hills are now even better than before,

Volcano viewing from the Hi-tech observatory(MVO) and viewing Stations at either side of the Island, and guided tours of the buried town of Plymouth are very popular with visitors.

Scuba diving in the crystal clear waters of the rapidly developing underwater park is a must for sea lovers. The reefs in the north of the island are teeming with life, a surprising plus of Volcanic activity. There is an amazing underwater world, waiting to be explored. Fine dining and bar hopping are a must for many of the island's tourists.

Getting to Montserrat: The nearest international airport is Antigua 27 miles away, with Direct services from New York, Newark, Philadelphia, London, Toronto, San Juan and many Caribbean islands. From North America, American Airlines offer connections via San Juan; while US Air, BWIA, Virgin Atlantic, Caledonian and Condor provide services from Europe with several flights weekly. There are daily scheduled inter island flights provided by LIAT, American Eagle which also operate in Antigua. Montserrat Visitors take a 15 minute flight from V.C Bird Intl Antigua.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Villa Tropicasa was greater than we could have envisioned. The pictures, as fine as they are, do not compare to in person experience! The view of the Ocean from the Verandah, which overlooks Pool & Whirl Pool, breathtaking! The Master Bedroom sleep & bed was a welcome surprise! The people are like none ever met, so hospitable. Happy we came, sad to leave. We drank the water & hope to return!

Great and relaxing retreat

  • 5 of 5

Upon arriving in Montserrat, Ken Cassel came and picked us up from the ferry terminal and took us to the property. The villa is very well taken care of, having your own pool is a very big bonus.

If we had any questions or concerns Ken would answer them as best he could. He was very accommodating and made sure we had anything we possibly could need.

The view from the property is absolutely amazing as it overlooks lime kiln beach and the sunsets were absolutely awesome. When I got home during the day the cold pool was a great advantage when you wanted to escape the heat.

The only hiccup we had was the insta hot stopped working. But Ken showed us a work around to make sure we still had warm showers. He tried really hard to get it working and was very sorry for the inconvenience.

One recommendation if you stay at this villa is to rent a vehicle as you kind of are away from some amenities and the driving on the island is a lot of fun.

Thank you Ken for making our stay amazing.

We had a wonderful time on the Emerald Isle, and villa Tropicasa was simply amazing! The house was recently renovated and in excellent condition. We really enjoyed lounging on the Patio gazing at yachts, cruise ships and barges sail down the coast, but the sunsets were our main attraction. The island weather was comfortable, not too warm this time of year, however we experienced quite a few rain showers during our stay. This was not our first time at Tropicasa and it won't be our last!

This place was not ready for guest. The owner stated he was under renovations after we arrived late at night. The pool was dirty and the pump was leaking into the road. The air conditioner in the master bedroom was leaking down the wall and did not cool the room. This happened a second time. and I shut it off. You could not relax in the living room because it was so hot. No screen on the patio doors. BUGS ALL OVER THE PLACE. Cockroaches so large the size of a grasshopper crawling all over the house. To top it off there were flying Cockroaches also flying inside the house. There were so many bugs that I I have never seen. I had to spray roach spray the owner left in the house morning ,noon and night. I had to leave the lights on when I went out at night because if you did not you would be surrounded by cockroaches crawling everywhere. My husband sat on one the chairs on the deck and it fell apart causing him to hit his head on the pool deck and cut his leg. The owner Ken said "Oh yeah the other chair broke from the UV Rays and I forgot to remove that chair. His foot was also cut by something in the pool bottom. The owner never came by to remove the broken chair. The ad stated housekeeping service but when I inquired the owner said that was seasonal but the ad did not say that. Also the picture showed TV in the master bedroom. There was none. Last but not least I came home one night and the owner Ken was just leaving. He went back in the house with me and said he was spaying for bugs, when I entered the master bedroom it was so hot and he turned the air conditioning off without asking. The roof was leaking on the deck when it rained so you could not sit outside to enjoy the breeze. I rented this villa for 10 days and had the right to leave the a/c on so I would not return to a hot house. Ken the owner said if I was going longer than a few hours to turn it off. I asked for a refund of something after this horrible experience and he did not respond. If this property was under major renovations the owner Ken should have informed us and I would have gladly stayed somewhere else. I was scared to unpack my suitcases that's how bad the bug situation was. BEWARE

A little slice of heaven

  • 5 of 5

Montserrat is a beautiful island full of wonderful people. We spent 32 fabulous days on this extremely friendly island and enjoyed all of the festivities that occurred prior to the big St. Patrick's Day celebration.

Our villa Tropicasa is a little hidden gem that is well located. The pool was used constantly. Everything about the villa met all of our needs and we enjoyed many card games with our friends on the covered patio watching amazing rainbows after a light rain.

Ken, the owner, and his housekeeping staff were very prompt about any concerns that we had and I would highly recommend this property to others.

Exactly what we wanted for a great stay

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent two and a half weeks here and enjoyed every aspect of it. Ken and his staff were welcoming and always there to assist.

The location is ideal for local restaurants and beaches, all within 5-15 mins walk or a very short drive. We spent the first week without a car and it helped to get to know the area very well and very quickly.

We would not hesitate to stay here again.

Great Diving week in Montserrat

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time on Montserrat and the Villa Tropicasa met all of our needs. As divers we chose Montserrat as a dive destination due to the fact that the reefs haven’t had hundreds of divers a day on them, actually we were the only 4 divers on the island all week! The Villa met our needs for having two separate bedrooms and baths. All of the pictures were very accurate, and the Villa was well maintained. Other reviews mentioned aging appliances; we were please to see a brand new refrigerator and dishwasher. The owner (Ken) went out of his way to make sure all of our needs were met. On arriving on the island, we were met by Winston who drove us from the airport to the villa, on the way he stopped at the police station so we could get out temporary drivers licenses ($20 US), the police station was closed, and so he brought us to the Villa to unload. Ken arrived soon after and took us in the rental Rav 4 (that waiting for us at the villa) back to the police station to get our licenses. On the second day phone service from the land-line phone went out, Ken provided us with a cell phone for the remainder of the week, even though phone service was restored the next day. Also, the coffee maker died, and Ken had a new one in place before the next morning. The pool was great to take a drip in after morning dives. The villa had all of the comforts of home. The only upgrade needed is a new bed in the master bedroom, mattress had seen better days. I would highly recommend this property to anyone travelling to the island. The price for the villa and rental were the lowest we have ever spent for a week of diving.

Owner's Response: I am proud of the 5 star review rating David has awarded Villa Tropicasa and his Montserrat experience! Also, I have noted his comments about upgrading the master bedroom mattress and I'm now shopping for new one which will be in place before our next scheduled guests arrive. Our guests expect the best in comfort and we will always strive to give them just that!

Often described as “the Way the Caribbean used to be”, this island is “Eden unedited”! Most visitors agree that Montserrat is the most friendly Island in the West Indies. Absolute relaxation, peace and tranquility are guaranteed. Local transportation is a breeze, there are no busy streets, no traffic lights! And despite the spectacular eruptions of the Soufriere Hills Volcano in the late 1990’s, most of the island is covered in a lush green tapestry of verdant foliage holding unto its heritage as the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean. This is the perfect Place to relax and unwind!
