Thing to Do : Things to do
In addition to its original draw as a unique island hideaway, Montserrat has become an enchanting destination for eco and volcano tourism. The Soufriere hills volcano has created a showcase of Mother natures marvels.
Eco trails continue to be a major attraction as they have been over the years. Mountain Biking, Hiking & sight seeing tours of the Tropical rain forest in and around the Center and Silver hills are now even better than before,
Volcano viewing from the Hi-tech observatory(MVO) and viewing Stations at either side of the Island, and guided tours of the buried town of Plymouth are very popular with visitors.
Scuba diving in the crystal clear waters of the rapidly developing underwater park is a must for sea lovers. The reefs in the north of the island are teeming with life, a surprising plus of Volcanic activity. There is an amazing underwater world, waiting to be explored. Fine dining and bar hopping are a must for many of the island's tourists.
Getting to Montserrat: The nearest international airport is Antigua 27 miles away, with Direct services from New York, Newark, Philadelphia, London, Toronto, San Juan and many Caribbean islands. From North America, American Airlines offer connections via San Juan; while US Air, BWIA, Virgin Atlantic, Caledonian and Condor provide services from Europe with several flights weekly. There are daily scheduled inter island flights provided by LIAT, American Eagle which also operate in Antigua. Montserrat Visitors take a 15 minute flight from V.C Bird Intl Antigua.
Villa Tropicasa was greater than we could have envisioned. The pictures, as fine as they are, do not compare to in person experience! The view of the Ocean from the Verandah, which overlooks Pool & Whirl Pool, breathtaking! The Master Bedroom sleep & bed was a welcome surprise! The people are like none ever met, so hospitable. Happy we came, sad to leave. We drank the water & hope to return!
Montserrat is a beautiful island full of wonderful people. We spent 32 fabulous days on this extremely friendly island and enjoyed all of the festivities that occurred prior to the big St. Patrick's Day celebration.
Our villa Tropicasa is a little hidden gem that is well located. The pool was used constantly. Everything about the villa met all of our needs and we enjoyed many card games with our friends on the covered patio watching amazing rainbows after a light rain.
Ken, the owner, and his housekeeping staff were very prompt about any concerns that we had and I would highly recommend this property to others.

My wife and I spent two and a half weeks here and enjoyed every aspect of it. Ken and his staff were welcoming and always there to assist.
The location is ideal for local restaurants and beaches, all within 5-15 mins walk or a very short drive. We spent the first week without a car and it helped to get to know the area very well and very quickly.
We would not hesitate to stay here again.
We had a great time on Montserrat and the Villa Tropicasa met all of our needs. As divers we chose Montserrat as a dive destination due to the fact that the reefs haven’t had hundreds of divers a day on them, actually we were the only 4 divers on the island all week! The Villa met our needs for having two separate bedrooms and baths. All of the pictures were very accurate, and the Villa was well maintained. Other reviews mentioned aging appliances; we were please to see a brand new refrigerator and dishwasher. The owner (Ken) went out of his way to make sure all of our needs were met. On arriving on the island, we were met by Winston who drove us from the airport to the villa, on the way he stopped at the police station so we could get out temporary drivers licenses ($20 US), the police station was closed, and so he brought us to the Villa to unload. Ken arrived soon after and took us in the rental Rav 4 (that waiting for us at the villa) back to the police station to get our licenses. On the second day phone service from the land-line phone went out, Ken provided us with a cell phone for the remainder of the week, even though phone service was restored the next day. Also, the coffee maker died, and Ken had a new one in place before the next morning. The pool was great to take a drip in after morning dives. The villa had all of the comforts of home. The only upgrade needed is a new bed in the master bedroom, mattress had seen better days. I would highly recommend this property to anyone travelling to the island. The price for the villa and rental were the lowest we have ever spent for a week of diving.
Great experience, everybody is genuine and friendly. The pool stays at a refreshing tempature and the AC works well. Some chickens would occationally try to eat the bannanas that are growing by the deck railing, but they are easy to scare off. No complaints. Amazing vacation.
A very comfortable villa with a great pool and jets/waterfall (not heated). Sunset views and lots of seating on patio or inside. Well equiped kitchen and market is fairly close. Both bedrooms have AC which you'll need unless you want the roosters to wake you up at all hours. Owner easy to reach and knows he does need to fix the roof leak in the living room.
Islanders very mellow and friendly. Do drive to Little Bay and hike to Rendezvous Bay. Good swimming at Woodlands Beach and Iles Bay just downhill from the villa. Snorkeling is very so-so. Hook up with Troy of Green Monkey dive shop in Little Bay to dive/snorkel off Redonda Island and don't miss his boat tour of the island and the abandoned villas and ash-buried Plymouth with the volcano looming high above. You also should really have dinner one night at Ziggy's once you've mastered the twisty, narrow roads.
If you decide to fly in from Antigua, stay at Dickenson Bay cottages not too far from airport, walk down to the beach and go into St. John's for some shopping and people watching.
Often described as “the Way the Caribbean used to be”, this island is “Eden unedited”! Most visitors agree that Montserrat is the most friendly Island in the West Indies. Absolute relaxation, peace and tranquility are guaranteed. Local transportation is a breeze, there are no busy streets, no traffic lights! And despite the spectacular eruptions of the Soufriere Hills Volcano in the late 1990’s, most of the island is covered in a lush green tapestry of verdant foliage holding unto its heritage as the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean. This is the perfect Place to relax and unwind!
