About Keith

I am a lifelong Carolinea boy, having grown up in NC and then living in SC since 1981.

Keith purchased this farmhouse in 2005

Why Keith chose Meggett

Toogoodoo Bluff is so unique and special. It offers an authenic Lowcountry experience and not just another beach week. The structures are all very historic and meticuously renovated. The high bluff overlooking the river and marshes are therapeutic. Toogoodoo Bluff is not a place, it is an experience.

What makes this farmhouse unique

As previously stated, Toogoodoo Bluff is not just another week at the beach even though we are only a short drive to Edisto Beach. It allows for groups to be together without having to be together in a single structure.

Needs repairs and maintenance. Information is misleading. Scenery is gorgeous.

Rustic, but not chic. My family of 9 stayed over New Years; a very cold weekend. I have to say we were very cold in the main house. The thermostat in the farmhouse never registered above 50 degrees. We could literally feel a draft. We were given firewood; which was promised. We also brought a truck load of our own -gratefully. The fireplace in the living room is great. We stayed there and played a lot of games. All faucets and showers need the aerators cleaned or something. There wasn't any water pressure. The kitchen sink faucet had a leak and sprayed with a fine stream in multiple directions when used. The shower in the cottage is flimsy; again no water pressure. (Less than a garden hose.) The linens were stained and old. The information about the house says linens and towels provided. When you hover over those words, it then says towels provided for extra fee. I did not discover this until after our visit. There was a note from the owner a week before we checked in onVRBO app that said towels were not provided. (For the fee we paid, I would have expected much better quality linens and ALL linens.) We did not bring hand towels for the bathroom nor kitchen towels. (There were dish rags for cleaning.) An oversight on our part. Paint is peeling throughout the house. The house overall felt less than clean. I wouldn't say filthy, but not spic and span clean either. The internet is 4G hotspot. (Again, I found when hovering over the info page after our visit.) 4G/day or fee and no streaming. The foosball and ping pong table were locked in the garage - unavailable for use. When we texted the owner, we received no response. Both kayaks leak. The dock needs re decking, the wood is coming up and nails are sticking out. The gas fireplace in the log cabin does not work. The bushes around the house are overgrown and unkempt.

Overall, the property, while full of potential, was not cared for and loved.

Owner's Response: In Charleston we pride ourselves on manners and hospitality. I greeted this family upon arrival and stayed around for two hours to meet and greet and make sure everything was okay. I left my business card and asked for a call if there were any issues. I did not receive a single call. Yet this guest leaves a laundry list of complaints in a public forum AFTER the fact but did not have the courtesy to call me to address anything. As for any valid issues, while it was record-setting cold during their visit, the modern central heat system in the farmhouse worked fine both before and after their visit. I cannot believe it was never above 50 degrees in the farmhouse and they did not even call me to get it repaired. Who would sit in a cold house and not even call the owner? I will not address each issue but will go on to say that upon departure this guest intentionally turned off the heat in my guest cottage even though my written and instructions posted in multiple locations called for it to be left “on”. As a result of their actions, all the water pipes froze before the housekeepers arrived the following day which resulted in many hundreds of dollars in damages. In 20 years of owning and managing vacation rentals, I have never made a claim against a guest as “life happens” and things get broken but this case is an exception.

Amazing time- Can't wait to go back next year

By far, my favorite VRBO I've rented. We rented this house over Christmas break for our family. It was the first time that all the kids were able to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas in the same house. This property is truly one of a kind offering ample space for a large family like ours, but yet at the same time, giving privacy with its multiple dwellings. I highly recommend this property for family functions or hosting a special event.

Rustic chic lodging with outstanding marsh.views.

Held annual weekend business retreat with board members of professional society. 14 people attended from as far west as Hawaii and as far

east as Connecticut. To a person, all had a wonderful time-appreciated the lodging, grounds, and surrounding scenic beauty. Owner Keith was hospitable and answered all questions/addressed all need. Quick run to local grocery helped with any items "left behind" on arrival. Close enough to downtown Charleston (30 minute drive) that we were able to cap a very relaxing and productive weekend with a Saturday late afternoon/early evening trip into Charleston for siteseeing and a group dinner at a great restaurant. Would recommend this place to anyone seeing a laid back site for a personal or business retreat involving 10-15 people. Outstanding!!!

Owner's Response: It was an honor to have this group of medical professionals from across the country to stay at Toogoodoo Bluff. Besides being such nice people, I was inspired to learn of their vital role in improving health care.

Great location!

We loved our stay at Toogoodoo Bluff! It was a bit more rustic than we were expecting, but once we got past the old house quirks, we thought it was the perfect place for our group of 14 to stay. Keith, the owner, was fantastic. The second night we were there we found out the grill wasn't working properly. We called Keith the next day and he brought out a brand new grill. Any time we called him for something, he cheerfully and quickly responded. Our favorite part was the covered dock. The kids were out there non-stop fishing, canoeing, and crabbing. We saw dolphins every morning. One morning we saw a mama and baby dolphin swim by and about 15 minutes later, a small alligator swam by. Our group ranged in age from 8 to 70 and every one of us loved it!
