About this property

Timber Frame Medicine House on 5 acres

This octagonal timber frame structure has no internal columns so the space is open and free up to the cupola that brings extra light to the interior. The 5 acres of gardens are privately maintained and have interest in every season. Longer walks are available in the same neighborhood. The structure is in the center of a 16 lot private development with no through traffic, and is extremely quiet - perfect for a retreat from the busyness of the world. The Medicine House is part of the Plum Spring Clinic and we offer customized healing services (massage, private yoga sessions, stress resiliency counseling, customized diet including full meal preparation if appropriate, acupuncture and others) during your stay if that is of interest. With the proximity (10 minute drive) of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill there is always something entertaining to do out there in the real world. There is a fully equipped kitchen, bucolic calming views out of master bedroom and living room and a lower level home theater with 65" Ultra HD TV (2019 model) and surround sound to escape to other worlds. International RDU airport is 30 minute drive. Electric car charging station. Come stay for a week retreat without going out or come and explore the area with nearby restaurants, The North Carolina Botanical garden, and the famed Morehead Planetarium and Observatory.

Perfect July 4th Weekend
My family of 4 wanted to get away for a long weekend to celebrate July 4th but wanted to avoid crowds. I was lucky enough to come across the Medicine House. The house is very open with plenty of windows to let in natural light. It is located in a beautiful, quiet area. We felt like we were "away from it all" but also enjoyed the surrounding area which has plenty of restaurants and things to do. The owners and their sweet dogs were very accommodating. Communication was excellent. Would highly recommend if you want peace and tranquility!

Heaven in Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Everything about this experience was just FUN! I mean enjoyable FUN! Set in the middle of a charming neighborhood on the south side of Chapel Hill, maybe 15 minutes from downtown and UNC, you feel as though you are in the lost forest. You have neighbors, especially Michael and Kathleen and their absolutely charming (four legged) ambassadors. Nature is the key. The location is set in a wooden environment, with plenty of ground cover and beautiful plants, exquisite walking trails and a bit of privacy all rolled into one. The "Medicine House" is divinely laid out as an octagonal building, with most of the house wide open without walls, every one of which has windows. With the exception of the bedroom suite and the guest bathroom, there is no interruption of the floor plan. The kitchen sets along one wall, discretely outfitted with the best utilities including a large over-under refrigerator, dishwasher, large sink and a wall oven/microwave combination. There is an island which can double as an eating bar or food preparation counter or just a social gathering locale. A lovely sitting area includes a large sofa opposite some wonderfully comfortable, big, soft leather chairs. A discrete office corner is available if you must work. Alexa awaits your listening pleasure with sound throughout. And the crowning touch is down the stairs along one wall. Your own movie lounge including a comfortable couch for two and a wide screen television set up for your entertainment. I have stayed in some very nice facilities in Chapel Hill, but this location is absolutely the best. And it is affordable. And it comes with charming hosts concerned only for your enjoyment. You will be the poorer for missing this spot if you do not schedule a visit soon. Thank you Kathleen and Michael. We will be back!
