Romantic Retreat: 10 acres, Hot Tub, Movie Theater

Bedrooms 2
Half Baths1
Space 78 m²
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

2 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, sleeps 4-5

Located in the heart of the Green Mountains on ten acres. Mountain views and remote feel, but only 20 minutes from Warren/Waitsfield area or 10 minutes to Rochester. Ski or snowshoe out the back door or cozy up and watch movies on home theater with over 200 movies. New, with all the modern amenities, but done in classic cabin style. Enjoy walking/sledding on site or hiking the nearby Long Trail, then a relaxing hot tub under the stars. 15 mins to Middlebury Snow Bowl, 25 mins to Sugarbush and Mad River Glen or 45 to Killington. Great swimming, kayaking, etc. Perfect any season!

Size limitations: The cabin is 850 sq ft. so not designed for large groups. It is one large space downstairs and two separate bedrooms above. It has a much larger feel than it's size indicates however, due to a two story loft above. There is also a generously sized mud room/entry with a heated floor to dry out ski boots and stow gear. It is therefore best suited for couples or small families who are looking for a well designed and appointed quality cabin. Anyone looking for a traditional Vermont experience will certainly enjoy the areas offerings and the warmth and intimacy provided in the cabin.

4wd Car recommendation: It is recommended that you have a 4wd car or truck in the winter.

About Jeff

Jeff is a Boston architect/contractor and resident of Concord for 20 years. He designed and restored the cabin on his own, working weekends over the course of three years. Initially, his wife was very reluctant, but once done, she is now the cabin's biggest fan. As it was designed and built for his family, Jeff has left no detail undone.

Jeff purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Jeff chose Granville

This area of Vermont is close enough to Boston (less than 3 hours), yet far enough to be in the heart of pristine Vermont. Jeff has been coming to this area since the mid 1970's and dreamed of having a retreat here for 35 years. Skiing is only 15-30 minutes away, and several romantic villages are nearby, giving endless options to explore and enjoy. Being on 10 acres and in Granville, it is also very private and peaceful. Often we just spend the weekend there, relaxing and basking in the cabin's great light and warmth.

What makes this cabin unique

Although the existing cabin was in sad repair, Jeff saw the potential, the views, and had the vision, tools and skills to make it happen. It is now our favorite place to be and we have established many great relationships there. It is a very active and engaging community, which we love being a part of and welcome others to share in, too!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Jeff.

We can't thank you enough for providing us with lodging that is so comfortable and with such nice amenities. After playing tourist during our stay last summer, we stuck a bit closer to home this time. Highlights were finding the swimming holes at Warren Falls and across from Newtons, Sunset Hike and local farmer's markets. Everything we ventured out to do was great fun! Also, it was wonderful to have our dog, Ginger along. Thinking we are hearty Southerners, who have endured a terrifically hot summer thus far, we did not believe we would need the A/C in Vermont, but I must confess that we broke down and used it one evening. We were so thankful for it!

We really appreciate everything!

92'' front screen projection TV that turns the living room into a home movie theater. Over 200 DVD's as well as Direct TV carrying the major networks, sports channels, etc. Recommend four wheel drive (or AWD) vehicle in winter for local roads and driveway. We now have wireless broadband internet service at the cabin, but you'll need your own computer. There is currently AT&T cell phone service in Granville, but Verizon can be gotten 10 minutes away. Living room has a gas stove which resembles a wood stove, but is much safer and cleaner to operate.

VERY nice getaway. Great property to explore on back country skis or snowshoes. Well equipped throughout the house. Would definitly rent again in the winter. Probably great fun in the spring-summer-fall too.

Wife and I loved our stay here. This cabin checked all the boxes for us. Every element is very thought out. Location of the hot tub, projector instead of a tv to save window space and just the whole overall layout. I was actually impressed by the amount of smart details. Really cool waking up to moose noises (to be fair they could've been local farm animals to my untrained city ears). Gas stove an obvious plus. Added ambiance along with heat. I genuinely have no critiques for the cabin. I actually was thinking that if i had to design one of a same size it'd come out similar. 20 mins to Sugarbush, 10 mins to town to get groceries. Fully functional kitchen with plenty of pots pans, etc. to handle whatever fancy dish you'd like to cook. I will say though that a 4x4 vehicle is pretty mandatory. We rolled the dice with our FWD VW just betting on the weather forecast. But the road and driveway leading up is unpaved and at a substantial grade. I defintely wouldn't hesitate booking this if you're looking at similar properties.

Great wooded get-away!

  • 5 of 5

Great experience from start to finish! Communication with the owner was fabulous, and our security deposit was refunded very quickly. Everything about the cabin was as described, and there wasn't anything we needed that wasn't available to us within the cabin or on the property. We experienced both fresh snow and ice/freezing rain, and the driveway was well taken care of both days. My husband would love to return once a month! Thank you very much Jeff and family!

Car: necessary

Located in central Vermont, 1/2 mile off Rt. 100, alongside the Green Mountains. Just a half hour off the interstate and convenient to skiing, hiking, kayaking, relaxing and many other outdoor activities. Enjoy great nearby skiing or stay on the property and have a fun weekend tubing, tubbing and/or snowshoeing through the woods and open fields. In the summer, there are the Farmers Markets in Waitsfield and Rochester, amazing swimming holes, tubing on the rivers, as well as the peace and serenity that comes with being located in the pristine, undeveloped White River Valley.

Other Activities: x-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding right on the property.

Golf: Sugarbush has a beautiful 18 hole course, while White River Golf Club offers 9 holes at a tremendous value only 15 minutes away.

Ski: Sugarbush and Mad River Glen, two of Vermonts best areas are only 25 minutes away, and Middlebury Snow Bowl, Vermonts best value, is only 15 minutes away.
