Romantic Retreat: 10 acres, Hot Tub, Movie Theater

81 Reviews
Bedrooms 2
Half Baths1
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 8 nights

Photos and Description of this Granville holiday cabin

2 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, sleeps 4-5

Located in the heart of the Green Mountains on ten acres. Mountain views and remote feel, but only 20 minutes from Warren/Waitsfield area or 10 minutes to Rochester. Ski or snowshoe out the back door or cozy up and watch movies on home theater with over 200 movies. New, with all the modern amenities, but done in classic cabin style. Enjoy walking/sledding on site or hiking the nearby Long Trail, then a relaxing hot tub under the stars. 15 mins to Middlebury Snow Bowl, 25 mins to Sugarbush and Mad River Glen or 45 to Killington. Great swimming, kayaking, etc. Perfect any season!

Size limitations: The cabin is 850 sq ft. so not designed for large groups. It is one large space downstairs and two separate bedrooms above. It has a much larger feel than it's size indicates however, due to a two story loft above. There is also a generously sized mud room/entry with a heated floor to dry out ski boots and stow gear. It is therefore best suited for couples or small families who are looking for a well designed and appointed quality cabin. Anyone looking for a traditional Vermont experience will certainly enjoy the areas offerings and the warmth and intimacy provided in the cabin.

4wd Car recommendation: It is recommended that you have a 4wd car or truck in the winter.

About Jeff

Jeff is a Boston architect/contractor and resident of Concord for 20 years. He designed and restored the cabin on his own, working weekends over the course of three years. Initially, his wife was very reluctant, but once done, she is now the cabin's biggest fan. As it was designed and built for his family, Jeff has left no detail undone.

Jeff purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Jeff chose Central Vermont / Sugarbush / Mad River Valley

This area of Vermont is close enough to Boston (less than 3 hours), yet far enough to be in the heart of pristine Vermont. Jeff has been coming to this area since the mid 1970's and dreamed of having a retreat here for 35 years. Skiing is only 15-30 minutes away, and several romantic villages are nearby, giving endless options to explore and enjoy. Being on 10 acres and in Granville, it is also very private and peaceful. Often we just spend the weekend there, relaxing and basking in the cabin's great light and warmth.

What makes this cabin unique

Although the existing cabin was in sad repair, Jeff saw the potential, the views, and had the vision, tools and skills to make it happen. It is now our favorite place to be and we have established many great relationships there. It is a very active and engaging community, which we love being a part of and welcome others to share in, too!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Jeff.

We can't thank you enough for providing us with lodging that is so comfortable and with such nice amenities. After playing tourist during our stay last summer, we stuck a bit closer to home this time. Highlights were finding the swimming holes at Warren Falls and across from Newtons, Sunset Hike and local farmer's markets. Everything we ventured out to do was great fun! Also, it was wonderful to have our dog, Ginger along. Thinking we are hearty Southerners, who have endured a terrifically hot summer thus far, we did not believe we would need the A/C in Vermont, but I must confess that we broke down and used it one evening. We were so thankful for it!

We really appreciate everything!

Quiet and relaxing getaway

We had a great weekend at the cabin. It is in a great spot to explore some of the nicest VT towns like Warren and Stowe. The cabin is stocked with all the essentials - Jeff thought of everything you might need.

Peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

My family and I recently stayed here for a leaf peeping trip. Unfortunately we were a little early to see the changing of the leaves but with this cabin to come home to every day, we didn't mind at all. There were 4 adults and a baby and there was plenty of room. We made dinner at home every night and found all the utensils we needed (and made use of the outside gas grill too). We relaxed in the hot tub and finished the night watching movies or TV on the amazing projector screen. We found the cabin to be a great base to explore (we did the trails around the cabin, Texas Falls, and a day in Stowe.) We would highly recommend this cabin and thank Jeff for all the helpful tips and instructions.

My girlfriend and I had such an amazing time!!! After being deployed for a year and still on my deployment, I contacted Jeff stating that I was interested in his cabin, but was unable to give a specific dates that I was coming home, but noticed he had only one week left opened for September. He told me that he would hold it for me until I was able to give him a date. It meant so much to me because I knew my girlfriend needed this trip more than anything. We were able to go that week when I surprised her at home after not knowing I was coming home early! The view and scenery was so peaceful! Being away for a year was exactly what my girlfriend and I needed. The cabin in the woods, hot tub to wind down, the home theater! It was an AMAZING WEEK and definitely recommend it to everyone! We will definitely be returning! :) thank you so much Jeff!

My Husband and I went there for our 31st wedding anniversary. We stayed for 5 days and referred to the big white book filled with great information that's at the cabin. We went on 2 of the recommended hikes, both were stunning. We also had the pleasure on our first day to run into Bernie sanders at the yummy Rochester's cafe, such a sweet compassionate man. We did get a chance to pick raspberries and had time to make a pie in the full equipped kitchen. Like I mentioned above, it was amazing and everything we had in mind and wanted for that week. You should go there some time,,,,,,,,,,,,

Be well,

Hidden away in a fabulous location

  • 5 of 5

Jeff - thanks for sharing your gorgeous holiday home. We loved staying here. It was peaceful and private yet not far from plenty of places to see in the area. We made good use of the home cinema in the evenings and loved sitting on the porch in the mornings, watching the humming birds. The cabin is fabulously equipped with everything you could want and we were also grateful for the clear instructions on everything and the full dossier of local information. I hope we have the chance to stay there again some time.

Peaceful, beautiful and they thought of everything!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four (2 adults, 2 teens) had a wonderful time at this beautiful cabin in Vermont. Our first impression upon walking in the cabin was that the owners thought of EVERYTHING! We found that a lot of the things we had packed were already at the cabin like bug repellant, lanterns, flashlights, olive oil, vinegar, even spices! There was even flour and baking soda and powder for making pancakes!!

The downstairs is one big room with a kitchen on one side and a living room on the other. The 92" TV screen pulls down over the windows in the windowseat, so it is very unobtrusive when you are not using it. We enjoyed picking out movies to watch and watched several classics, like Jaws and Alien, with our girls. As well as others like Lords of Dogtown, MIB and Sherlock Holmes. We got in a nice routine of going in the hot tub after we got back from dinner, some nights we had a fire in the fire pit and then we went inside and watched a movie together as a family. We appreciated the large movie screen because our teens would probably have headed to their room, but this kept us together as a family.

We found the beds and pillows very comfortable and the bedrooms very well appointed.

Several days we went to Warren Falls and one day we found a more private swimming hole on the way to Warren Falls. We weren't sure about jumping off the rocks there, but it was deep enough to swim and private so we could hang out, read, relax. And the water was so clear! Crystal clear!

We enjoyed meals at Rochester Cafe and American Flatbread. American Flatbread is such a great place with an excellent vibe. We ate inside so we could watch them make the pizzas in the old clay oven, but afterwards we went outside and it was like a party. Everyone was warm and welcoming, kids and dogs were playing in the grass. Families were playing ball. People were sitting around fire pits or in clusters of Adirondack chairs or, of course, at tables. Everyone enjoyed pizza (they also have excellent salads for those that are gluten or dairy intolerant!) and organic sodas or beer.

We also ventured to Waterbury for the Alchemist Brewery and Ben & Jerry's and to Burlington where we enjoyed dinner at the Daily Planet and beer at Zero Gravity and Switchback. My husband really enjoys craft beer so we had mapped out a Vermont Beer tour and got Vermont Brewing Passports. We visited 11 breweries total during our stay so we can mail in our passport for a T-shirt!

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you had such a great week. It sounds like you made it to many of our favorite places and discovered even a few more? That's what is so fun about this area in Vermont... in every direction, there are fun and interesting places to explore and visit. Things to do for all the family and all season! Thank you and please come back and enjoy some more, Jeff.

Car: necessary

Located in central Vermont, 1/2 mile off Rt. 100, alongside the Green Mountains. Just a half hour off the interstate and convenient to skiing, hiking, kayaking, relaxing and many other outdoor activities. Enjoy great nearby skiing or stay on the property and have a fun weekend tubing, tubbing and/or snowshoeing through the woods and open fields. In the summer, there are the Farmers Markets in Waitsfield and Rochester, amazing swimming holes, tubing on the rivers, as well as the peace and serenity that comes with being located in the pristine, undeveloped White River Valley.

Other Activities: x-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding right on the property.

Golf: Sugarbush has a beautiful 18 hole course, while White River Golf Club offers 9 holes at a tremendous value only 15 minutes away.

Ski: Sugarbush and Mad River Glen, two of Vermonts best areas are only 25 minutes away, and Middlebury Snow Bowl, Vermonts best value, is only 15 minutes away.

92'' front screen projection TV that turns the living room into a home movie theater. Over 200 DVD's as well as Direct TV carrying the major networks, sports channels, etc. Recommend four wheel drive (or AWD) vehicle in winter for local roads and driveway. We now have wireless broadband internet service at the cabin, but you'll need your own computer. There is currently AT&T cell phone service in Granville, but Verizon can be gotten 10 minutes away. Living room has a gas stove which resembles a wood stove, but is much safer and cleaner to operate.
