Overview

Photos and Description of this Granville holiday cabin

2 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, sleeps 4-5

Located in the heart of the Green Mountains on ten acres. Mountain views and remote feel, but only 20 minutes from Warren/Waitsfield area or 10 minutes to Rochester. Ski or snowshoe out the back door or cozy up and watch movies on home theater with over 200 movies. New, with all the modern amenities, but done in classic cabin style. Enjoy walking/sledding on site or hiking the nearby Long Trail, then a relaxing hot tub under the stars. 15 mins to Middlebury Snow Bowl, 25 mins to Sugarbush and Mad River Glen or 45 to Killington. Great swimming, kayaking, etc. Perfect any season!

Size limitations: The cabin is 850 sq ft. so not designed for large groups. It is one large space downstairs and two separate bedrooms above. It has a much larger feel than it's size indicates however, due to a two story loft above. There is also a generously sized mud room/entry with a heated floor to dry out ski boots and stow gear. It is therefore best suited for couples or small families who are looking for a well designed and appointed quality cabin. Anyone looking for a traditional Vermont experience will certainly enjoy the areas offerings and the warmth and intimacy provided in the cabin.

4wd Car recommendation: It is recommended that you have a 4wd car or truck in the winter.

About Jeff

Jeff is a Boston architect/contractor and resident of Concord for 20 years. He designed and restored the cabin on his own, working weekends over the course of three years. Initially, his wife was very reluctant, but once done, she is now the cabin's biggest fan. As it was designed and built for his family, Jeff has left no detail undone.

Jeff purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Jeff chose Central Vermont / Sugarbush / Mad River Valley

This area of Vermont is close enough to Boston (less than 3 hours), yet far enough to be in the heart of pristine Vermont. Jeff has been coming to this area since the mid 1970's and dreamed of having a retreat here for 35 years. Skiing is only 15-30 minutes away, and several romantic villages are nearby, giving endless options to explore and enjoy. Being on 10 acres and in Granville, it is also very private and peaceful. Often we just spend the weekend there, relaxing and basking in the cabin's great light and warmth.

What makes this cabin unique

Although the existing cabin was in sad repair, Jeff saw the potential, the views, and had the vision, tools and skills to make it happen. It is now our favorite place to be and we have established many great relationships there. It is a very active and engaging community, which we love being a part of and welcome others to share in, too!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Jeff.

We can't thank you enough for providing us with lodging that is so comfortable and with such nice amenities. After playing tourist during our stay last summer, we stuck a bit closer to home this time. Highlights were finding the swimming holes at Warren Falls and across from Newtons, Sunset Hike and local farmer's markets. Everything we ventured out to do was great fun! Also, it was wonderful to have our dog, Ginger along. Thinking we are hearty Southerners, who have endured a terrifically hot summer thus far, we did not believe we would need the A/C in Vermont, but I must confess that we broke down and used it one evening. We were so thankful for it!

We really appreciate everything!

Perfect Vermont Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a fantastic time at this cabin! It was very clean and there were detailed instructions for everything. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking, the hot tub is perfect for relaxing, and the movie theater and movie collection is great for anytime! The area got some light snow while we were there and it was absolutely beautiful! Though there isn't much in Granville, there are great restaurants and stores in Waitsfield and Waterbury (prohibition pig and blackback pub have great food and beer!). We will definitely be coming back next time we come to Vermont!

Wonderful fall getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin, along with all the detailed instructions and vacation tips provided by the owner, was perfect! My friends and I came for a long weekend. We enjoyed a hike on the Clark Brook Trail, tried out the hot tub, and even got to experience the cabin in snow! Jeff was very responsive to any questions we had and the home had everything we needed for a long weekend away. I'm so glad we got to enjoy a beautiful fall weekend in Vermont!

Quaint, cozy cabin!!

  • 5 of 5

What a fun little cabin! The owner truly thought of everything and definitely made the most of every available space. Although the cabin is small, you never feel cramped or claustrophobic at all. If you want privacy, peace and quiet, beautiful sunsets and of course a hot tub, this is the place to be! The booking and check in process couldn't have been simpler and the information packet provided by the owner was very comprehensive and informative. Not to mention the information book provided at the house, which gives you more information you could think of about the house, the surrounding area, restaurants, attractions, etc., plus before and after photos of the cabin which are AMAZING!!

Upon arrival, we felt immediately at home and had no problem finding anything or figuring anything out because everything in the house is clearly labeled. We only used the master bedroom but that bed was very soft and comfy. The gas powered "wood" stove and hot tub were definitely our favorite features of the house but we also enjoyed a "movie day" on the huge projection screen with a great surround sound system. He has hundreds of DVD's and we watched some classics we hadn't seen in years. So much fun. The kitchen was very well equipped and quite roomy for a cabin of that size and what a lovely surprise to step onto heated tile floors in the bathroom and mud room!

Overall, it was a fantastic stay from start to finish and we will definitely be returning!!

Delightful Little Cabin in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from an 8-night stay at this cabin and were not disappointed! It was the perfect little hideout to return to at the end of our days of fall foliage viewing. The cabin is very secluded, and though there are neighbors in the vicinity, you'd never know it. Being from hot, humid Texas, we were delighted to be able to sleep with the windows open every night. All the furnishings are comfy and we felt right at home. As other guests have mentioned, Jeff has put together a binder with all the info you need for eating and exploring in the area. We took several of his suggestions. Breakfast at the Rochester Cafe was a delight we indulged in several times. Don't miss the banana walnut pancakes.

Thanks to the owners for sharing this little gem with us. We'd love to come back again!

We had a great weekend at the cabin. It is in a great spot to explore some of the nicest VT towns like Warren and Stowe. The cabin is stocked with all the essentials - Jeff thought of everything you might need.

Notes:
92'' front screen projection TV that turns the living room into a home movie theater. Over 200 DVD's as well as Direct TV carrying the major networks, sports channels, etc. Recommend four wheel drive (or AWD) vehicle in winter for local roads and driveway. We now have wireless broadband internet service at the cabin, but you'll need your own computer. There is currently AT&T cell phone service in Granville, but Verizon can be gotten 10 minutes away. Living room has a gas stove which resembles a wood stove, but is much safer and cleaner to operate.
