Cozy Vermont Getaway Spot

  • 5 of 5

Thank you, Cara and Lisa, for sharing your place with us! We loved the rustic charm of the place which was equipped with everyone we needed. It was bright and clean with plenty of space both indoors and out for our three daughters and our dog. We enjoyed being in the quaint town of Chester and so close to Okemo, where the skiing was fabulous!

Cozy and Clean but a few hiccups

  • 4 of 5

Very cozy and clean but some small communication problems regarding the key so we had to leave the place unlocked while out touring. The area seemed very safe so no problems, just a little uneasy. Also photos show small creek that looked inviting but when we went in the back yard the neighbor was quick to yell about us being in her yard. There was yellow caution tape all up against the back of the house in which the neighbor was quick to tell us that is our boundaries. Chester is sweet, small and charming. Buttermilk falls was beautiful as well as the covered bridges along the way and of course Vermont Farm Stores! All in all a great trip.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry about the key situation but I understand my sister was quick to fix that so I hope it wasn't too much of a problem. We are a little lax in the locking up because it is such a safe little town. As far as the neighbor, uggg! My family has been going down to that brook for 70 years and we have never had a problem. Just goes to show you what a bad seed can do to the neighborhood. She is of course responsible for the yellow tape as well. I've never had to tell guests how to get to the creek without walking through the 5 feet of grass that she owns but I sure will now.

Lovely stay in Chester, VT

  • 4 of 5

My husband, 2 children (ages 2 and 10mo) and dog recently stayed at this lovely converted barn in Chester, Vermont. The pictures don't really do it justice - it is more spacious than you would think. My 6'6" husband had a bit of trouble with the low beams and sloped ceilings, but it wasn't too bad. The space was very clean and had almost everything we needed. I might suggest a toaster and a larger coffee maker! The only drawback I can possibly think of is the parking area. We were there during a wet weekend, and the parking area was so muddy that it was hard to get in and out of the area without tracking mud everywhere. I know paving is expensive, but it might be worth it! Overall, though, we loved the place. It was close to downtown with the cute shops, close to the town park, and close to all the local ski areas we love. We would definitely return! Thanks for a great stay!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the note Alexandra. Sorry about the toaster. I honestly don't know what happened to it because it was there for the guests before you. I will look in to the bigger coffee maker. As far as the driveway, my family has always preferred the look of the gravel over the pavement. We usually only have issues with it during muddy season and sadly not many people come to see us during that time so it hasn't been a problem. I am sorry it was a problem for you though.

This was the perfect winter weekend getaway home! It was so nice to come home to warm ourselves by the fire after a long day of snowboarding and watch the Olympics. Can’t wait for our next visit!

Very good

  • 5 of 5

This is my first review of a vrbo rental and a must for my experience in dealing with the owner Cara, for making certain our stay in her beautiful restored barn in Chester Vermont was what one would invision it to be. Having someone make sure all is ready and as well suggest restaurants, ski hills, always available if needed, was such a nice extra to what turned out to be a most delightful rental. Being in Vermont is something magical to begin with and then staying in such a cozy setting, with a toasty warm fireplace, wonderful old wood floors, etc, completed such a memmorable getaway for my daughter and I. The warmth felt in this special little barn is clearly an extension of a very thoughtful and caring owner....and what a difference that makes. Thanks Cara.
