Why Jackie Kitchen chose Faye-la-Vineuse
In 2013 Jackie and her husband Tim bought a beautiful French house in the Loire valley, situated close to the stunning Town of Richelieu, with easy travelling time form the French ports, and just far enough south to enjoy the stunning weather, we found our dream. Our joy has been to renovate this separate Gite which sits with in the private gardens of the main house. The Gite has been loving restored to now incorporates two bedrooms, beautifully designed and interiors that are fitting to its surroundings. Once a tiny shop in the village of Faye La Vineuse , La Vielle Echoppe meaning “the old Shop "has now been completed offering a beautiful Niche for guests looking to enjoy all the stunning surroundings and gastronomic delights of this fabulous region.

Quite a pleasant property but we have had better in England.
We did have a very good week in a house which is pretty well equipped but a couple of things need sorting out. Firstly, instructions for parking are given as if from the house, not from the approach, so very confusing on arrival! Secondly, spent ages looking for light switches hidden behind microwave.
The folder of instructions for appliances is just a collection of manuals - not what you want to wade through when you first arrive and need to prepare a meal. It would be very helpful to have one laminated sheet with quick instructions for everything.
Standard of cleaning throughout was quite poor with many cobwebs and dust throughout ground floor. The ‘roll up’ blinds were infuriating! Any other kind of blinds would do.
Upstairs heater was left on in bedroom (we used downstairs). When I tried to turn it off it fell off the wall. Could have been quite dangerous. Managed to re-hang it when it was cool but this needs fixing urgently.
Apart from that we had a good week because a) the sun shone all the time and b) we’d chosen Faye la Vineuse in order to meet up with Liz, who I was teaching with some 30 years ago.
If you are living outside all the time in high summer you may not notice some of the irritations, but in late September we did.
Many thanks for all your points, of course we take great pride in making sure that we provide exactly what we advertise, and all guests comments are treated with the greatest respect.
If I can just run through your comments, as I am now in France and have just had a meeting with Liz to look at areas that we may need to improve on.
Arrival, when you arrived into the village, Lizzy actually saw you and spoke to you. She gave you clear directions to the car park, as you where almost opposite the road. You then proceeded to take the second right and not the first. So in fact you at this point where taking direction from your host not my information. Sat Nav always lands you at the front gates so thought it helpful to direct from there. Lizzy then waited for you at the Gite to make sure that you arrived safely. This is a very small medieval village , so I will look again to make it clearer.
Micro wave, yes correct, I will remove so clearer for guests.
Laminate sheet may be move useful, I will arrange.
Standard of cleaning is something that we take very seriously, Lizzy actually checked the property that morning, as well as the gardeners. As you can imagine Lizzy is upset that you found not to be a high standard not only because all guests are treated with our high standard, but also because you was a friend she wanted all to be just perfect. We have had no other compliments about this , and we feel that your comments slightly unjust.
Roll up blinds, are here to stay, they add to the quaint charm of the original little village shop, we are sorry that you had trouble with them.
Heater upstairs we have of course checked, it is firmly on the wall and no action is needed. The heater can be easily turned off by the switch. You can lift the heater off the brackets, I think that is what you may have done. Certainly not dangerous in any way.
We are so glad that the sun shone for you, and you had some special times with your old teaching pal.
I think that your rating is still 4/5, and maybe with a few tweaks that we can maintain our great standard.
We do hope that you may return to Faye again, but at least next time you will know the car park is.
Very best wishes
Great retreat from the hectic day-to-day
Cottage has everything for a relaxing holiday for a couple or small family group. Really nicely restored. Nice enclosed garden for catching the sun and sampling the local produce (mainly the wine!).
Very quiet position at edge of village. The church bells did not really bother us !
Good location for sightseeing in lower Loire valley.
Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful break in France.
Charming, private, functional
Faye la Vineuse is an exceptional holiday letting. It is beautifully renovated in a quiet medieval hamlet. There is a lovely garden, It is excellent for the elderly, close to the attractions of Chinon and the chateaux of the Loire valley.Highly recommended.
We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay, we worked very hard to make our Gite welcoming and insuring that our attention to detail was top of our list. when renovating.
You are correct it is so beautifully placed for all our the stunning locations in France and the garden is so lovely especially with the church bells tolling in the background.
Thank you once again.
Peace and Quiet
We stayed for a week in this very quiet and peaceful home. There is much to see and do in this part of the Loire and we enjoyed visiting chateaux, river swimming, wine tasting and wandering around the wonderful local towns along the Loire. Richelieu is a beautiful place to have on your doorstep. The village is very quiet (apart from the church bells which we grew to love) and we went for lovely walks through the countryside. This area has a great combination of real agriculture and countryside together with culture. The house was very clean, well equipped and has a very pretty interior. The essentials in the fridge were very appreciated as was the advice given by Nick on arrival. A great place to stay.
We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay, and Nick and Claire provided a professional service and advice during your stay. We love the area and all that the French way of life has to offer, it sounds as though you have had a wonderful time.
Please do consider a second visit at some stage and appreciate your recommendations and comments.
Thank you once again.
Little Corner of Paradise!
We stayed in this beautifully renovated Gite for a long weekend for a well deserved break. We couldn't have asked for nicer surroundings to relax and take in the beautiful village and neighbouring towns. The Gite itself, has everything that you might need, is comfortable, and decorated beautifully. The best part is sitting in bed in the morning listening to the church bells chime as the sun seeps in through the shuttered windows! Thanks Jackie and Tim for a lovely time at your home. We will be back!
Thank you so much, we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay, the church bells are still ringing, and the sun is shining.
Please do not hesitate to re book and return in the near future.
Best wishes Jackie & Tim
