Why Owner chose Hawick
This cottage is so restful, even after a weekend there you feel so relaxed. It is so different to the busy lives everyone leads nowadays that it provides a real tonic for the soul. A great opportunity for family or friends to spend some prime time together.
What makes this Cottage unique
Merrylaw is set in upper Teviotdale and the cottage enjoys wonderful views down the valley as well as across the hills. The stream running below the cottage plays its own restful music, chattering over the rocks on its way to join the mighty Tweed. Sometimes you can see otters looking for a meal, or, in the winter, the salmon are there at the end of their epic journey, to spawn and create the next generation of salmon parr. In late spring, usually May, the sheep are lambing out on the hill and you see the young lambs gambolling about with their comical antics. All through the year there are pheasants strutting about and calling to each other. Merrylaw Cottage is good for the soul and gives us a reality check when we are so close to nature.

Notes
- If you are looking for a break to 'get away from it all' then this is the perfect place. We have a guest book full of lovely comments, such as ''I never knew there were so many stars in the sky!'' Or, ''we had our own little world and saw no-one, perfect peace and fresh air!'' And, ''we had planned to go to lots of places, but our three young children played in the stream below the cottage every day, so we had some quiet time together, what a wonderful spot for a real family holiday.'' The cottage has double glazing, so with the fire going in the winter it makes a cosy getaway for winter breaks as well as being pleasantly cool in the heat of summer. One amazing feature is the water. It comes from a spring in the forest and even in summer is clean and cool. No chemicals, just pure spring-water. Sometimes relaxation takes many forms, we get plenty of wannabe lumberjacks who love to cut their own logs for the fire, sometimes their enthusiasm results in a supply for the future guests too!

Peace and quiet
What a fab way to see in the new year! The cottage is like stepping back in time no TV reception, log burner and amazing views and walks-perfect. Would totally recommend.
Wonderful stay - perfect for Christmas!
We had a wonderful week at Crofters Cottage over Christmas 2018. Fantastic location, with only a distant view of one other cottage on the other side of the valley. We spent lots of time rambling with the dog and sitting in front of the fire. Would definitely recommend and would love to go back in future.
Lovely and cosy
Very relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings
Get away from it all
This was our second stay at Merrylaw and we are going to book a third next year. Stunning views, total peace and quiet but also a good base to explore further. Not a street light to be seen and such a relaxing place to visit. We can't wait for our next holiday. Many thanks to Ian and co for having us.

Very peaceful, lovely location
Lovely little cottage in a beautiful location, like taking a step back in time. Love the coal fire and the fact water is straight from the spring. Would visit again.
