Luxuriantly fertile mountains, ancient villages, Venetian monasteries, together with the bustling resorts of the south make this an island to please everyone. There is a delightful little cove just 4 minutes away in the car and a larger beach 6 minutes away with sun beds. The villages of Ano Volimes and Volimes are just 12 minutes away in the car, where you can buy homemade bread, milk, fruit, vegetables and most other provisions. There is now a Pharmacy and a Government Doctors surgery. Locally there are many tavernas all family run and producing local delicious organic dishes. The famous shipwreck beach and blue caves can be visited by boat which leaves from the Port Agios Nikolas, 5 mins drive away, where there are 2 supermarkets, tavernas, coffee shop, a cash point machine, and a petrol station. The famous Peligoni Club, a privately owned watersports club, is 5 mins by car.
The owner has a motor boat, with a 30horse power engine [no liscence required] available for rent. Great for exploring the coastline.
For good supermarkets, lively bars, restaurants, cash point machines, long sandy beaches the resort of Alykes is just 15 minutes drive away. If you are after excellent shopping, art and culture the main town Zakynthos, is just 40 minutes drive and certainly worth visiting. The squares in the evening tend to be very lively and there are lots of restaurants to chose from where you can sit under the stars and enjoy local tradition Greek dishes. The island itself is easy to drive around and the scenery very beautiful. You can visit old monasteries, walk among the countryside taking in breathtaking views of cliffs, sea and amazing sunsets.
A detailed information pack is in the house.
A quote from Emmanuelle and Darren a french couple who stayed at Daisy Cottage.
'Vraiment de super vacances avec de bons souvenirs! :-)'
Hi; I first went to Zakynthos in 2000 and fell in love with this area in the NE of the Island. During the Summer I work for the Peligoni water sports club in Agyious Nikolas. I found the derelict little cottages in 2001, bought them and set about renovating them. I love spending the Summer in Greece.
Sheila Johnston purchased this cottage in 2001
I look after the properties myself and keep them to a good standard. They are quite unique and well equipped- I feel very comfortable in them myself and so do other people!
Daisy and Margherita are in a beautiful location with gorgeous views. They capture the essence of Greece. It is very tranquil.
We enjoyed our holiday here very much, staying in both cottages during our fortnight. the location is very quiet, Marguerite cottage in particular is simply delightful, and although smaller, Daisy cottage still provides everything you need. After exploring various parts of Zakynthos, we actually spent the last few days staying put, enjoying the peace and quiet, with only the sound of bees and tinkling goat bells, watching the white boats against the deep blue of the sea below us. Surrounding restaurants are excellent, and the whole location is a must for anyone who prefers the quiet life. Sheila and Duncan were the perfect hosts, available if needed, but keeping a low profile otherwise.
Sadly our family was not able to enjoy this property during our Greek holiday in 2016 as the owner cancelled our booking by email the night before we were due to arrive.
The owner gave a full refund and arranged alternative accommodation, but in an inferior property: a first floor apartment in a concrete block on a main road. This was our only option as it was mid-August.
Short stays may be more vulnerable here, as our booking was cancelled in favour of a longer booking, despite full payment having been made in advance.
We spent a week in Margherita and really didn't want to leave. It was spotlessly clean and well-maintained, beautifully decorated, with a private terrace with amazing views over the sea. We loved it.
We didn't see much of Sheila, the lovely owner who lives next door, but she was extremely helpful. She told us it was feasible to walk down the hill to Agios Nikolaos, with its beach and tavernas, but to be honest we were in need of a totally lazy holiday (and it was only a short drive).
We did a couple of trips out, but we liked Agios Nikolaos best and returned there every day for a swim, a read on the beach and something to eat and drink. It's pretty and was quite quiet in early June. Our favourite place was Taverna Porto, run by Dimitri Theodosis and his family, who also run some of the boat trips. Lovely, friendly and welcoming - we felt like old friends by the time we left! - although in fact we didn't meet a soul while we were in Zakynthos who wasn't friendly and welcoming...
Highly recommended!
We absolutely loved our 2 week stay in the cottage.
It is situated in a great position on Mt Peligoni looking down toward the sea.
The cottage is very well equipped and found ourselves wanting for nothing.
If you stock up well at the supermarket then this is perfect for self catering and an ideal base to explore the beautiful north of the island.
There is a nice, private patio with table and chairs and cooking on the barbeque was a great way to spend the evening.
There was plenty of hot water on tap and Sheila is most welcoming.
We found the cottage to be spotless on arrival.
A real jewel !
We stayed with Sheila from 13th June to 20th June. The accomodation is excellent, spotlessly clean and ever commodity you could wish for in the compact kitchen.A car is essential, we would say, and the local tavernas in Port Nicholas are very good, service and prices very reasonable. Greek night at the fish taverna at the end of the beach is good fun.All the local tourist sights are easily accessable with a car. Sheila is a very busy lady and it helps her a lot if you water her plants at night, but this is not a condition of your holiday!!An absolutely fabulous week before we travelled to Kalamaki for our 2nd week. It was like having 2 holidays in one!!Definately for couples who love their own company, along with a few gekos, owls and other wildelife you can hear from the Askos wildlife centre close by.
A delightful Greek cottage situated in the hills with glorious aspect. Very relaxing stay. The cottage has been thoughtfully decorated and equiped. Easyjet flights to the island this year mean more flexability and better service.
Situated in the mountainous north of the beautiful island of Zakynthos, Daisy and Margherita Cottages overlook the sea with stunning views of the Ionian Sea and mainland Greece. The cottages are also within easy reach of the unspoilt beaches of Porto Vromi and Makrios Gialos. The family resort of Alykes with its long sandy beaches is a short drive away and offers water sports, restaurants, supermarkets, night life and cash machines. The Cottages are an ideal base to explore this delightful island. Ideal for complete relaxation, walking and boat trips to the Blue Caves, Shipwreck Cove and Kephalonia, you can even hire your own boat to explore hidden little coves with azure clear waters. Direct flights to the island March-Oct.
