I would recommend the BB and this particular room to those expecting a quiet and pleasant stay in Amsterdam. Guests will make you feel like in our own home and pancakes for breakfast were delicious. The views of the garden with its pond and its abundant flora were also stimulating.
Next to Oosterpark and Plantage and near the center on foot or by tram, its location is ideal.
Myself and my girlfriend stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of the year. Both Bernard and Martijne were amazing hosts. They couldnt do any more to help us enjoy our stay. The Garden Room is a beautiful place, very quiet and comfortable, we could have stayed for much longer. Bernards home cooked breakfasts were the best way to start the day and the location is fantastic for exploring Amsterdam. We would definitely recommend it!
I stayed four nights in the Parkzijde Bed and Breakfast, Amsterdam, with my husband. We both felt that this was one of the best bed and breakfasts we had ever stayed in, far better than most hotels. We stayed in the Garden Room which faced the back of the building and was extremely quiet. It has its own en-suite bathroom and a lovely conservatory for breakfast. The hosts - Bernard and Martijne Neuhaus - were friendly, charming and extremely helpful. They coped very well with our request for a vegetarian breakfast, which was large and varied, and full of personal touches. Most impressive was the fact that they gave us smoked eel and trout on three mornings, after my husband said that he loved Dutch smoked fish (not a vegetarian choice, I know, but these local specialities are things which he is reluctant to give up entirely). The area in which the Bed and Breakfast accommodation is set is not in the centre, but is very conveniently placed, with a direct tram connection (Number 9) to the Central Station. The fact that it isn't in the centre makes it much quieter and more restful, but at the same time there are plenty of good eating places just round the corner from the accommodation, and good cafés and bars too. Martijne and Bernard give excellent advice about where to eat, and have tested many of the local places themselves. We particularly recommend Bidou, on the Beukenplein, and Lalla Rookh on Wijttenbachstraat, both only about five minutes walk away. For lunch or a relaxing drink Café Bar Milo, on the corner of Linnausstraat and Wijttenbachstraat, is excellent too - try their wonderful 'frites'.
The Oosterpark area, where the accommodation is situated, is close to the Tropical Museum, and just a few stops away from the Dutch Resistance Museum, the Hermitage on the Amstel, and the Jewish-Historical Museum by the number 9 tram. Trams 3 and 7 take you to the major art museums in the Museum Quarter. Nothing is far away at all. Very close to the Bed and Breakfast is the famous Dapperstraat, which has one of the best ethnic markets in Amsterdam. Try eating the small Dutch pancakes known as 'poffertjes' from one of the stalls there. They're delicious!
In short, this place is ideal for a short or longer stay in Amsterdam, with clean and well-maintained accommodation, and excellent customer service from the owners. I would recommend it most highly.
Our stay at Parkside B&B was absolutely perfect. The room was cozy and felt so far away from the world, though the best of the city was right on our doorstep. The little garden conservatory nook was such a delight, and having delicious breakfasts laid out for us so picturesquely was a real treat and we looked forward to it each morning. We've never slept so well in our entire lives; the bed was the most comfortable ever, and the bathroom was sparkling and perfectly appointed, with a deep soaking tub to relax after a day of walking all over Amsterdam. Our hosts were kind and friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The location of the inn is excellent -- major public transportation line just a few minutes' walk away, with a charming, large park right across the streed. Several cute pubs and restaurants in the neighborhood (we enjoyed Spargo more than once), and a pedestrian marketplace also immediately nearby for your shopping needs, including groceries, clothing, sundries... I highly recommend Parkside to anyone visiting Amsterdam. A lovely place for a single or a couple -- peaceful and lovely and refreshing in every way.
