If you like the outdoors, you'll love our home! The view of quiet, quaint Little Black Lake is spectacular! This 1 mile long lake is perfect for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. Little Black Lake is shallow and weedy so it is not good for swimming. We include the free use of our bikes, kayaks, canoe and row boat with our rental rate and have lake access. Hoffmaster State park is in the back yard. The magnificent park is home to huge 200' sand dunes, miles and miles of hiking and cross-country ski trails. At the end of the trail you'll find over 3 miles of sandy Lake Michigan beach. (Lake Michigan is a 30-minute hike from the house)
In the fall the pace slows but the beauty remains. The fall colors are spectacular
In the winter enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or ice skating .
The Lakes Mall, Craig's Cruisers, countless restaurants, golf courses, theaters, pubs etc. are less than five minutes away by car.
We will consider parties of up to 8 people however there is an extra charge for groups of over 6 people.
There is a road between Little Black Lake and the house, it is not a major road however there is a fair amount of traffic, due to subdivisions in the area.

We do have another home, listing #322166: Both houses are on Little Black Lake and Hoffmaster State Park and each has High-Speed Wireless Internet and Cable TV. We allow well trained, well-behaved dogs in our homes. We have an ample supply of board games, books, and videos.
Our Unique Area: Little Black Lake is a precious inland lake. Unlike many West Michigan lakes, it is nearly undeveloped. There are only a handful of homes on the entire lake. Therefore, it is an excellent lake for kayaking, canoeing or fishing. It is not unusual to catch 5# Bass, 10 inch Bluegills or large Northern Pike. I should also mention that we do not recommend Little Black Lake for swimming. Although the water quality has been tested and it is one of the cleanest lakes around, it also is a shallow weedy lake and most parts have a muddy bottom. For swimming, we recommend Lake Michigan. You can walk there from our home. It takes about 30 minutes but I assure you if you take the hike, you'll feel like you've found paradise.
Owner's provided accurate description of property. Home was clean, well maintained and pet friendly. All amenities were provided and then some including rowboats, kyaks, canoes, fire pit, bicycles, helmets and even a walking stick for trails and binoculars for birdwatching. The house was cozy, bathrooms clean and kitchen was very well equiped. The owners were very informative about the area and readily available for the few questions we had. The location was very private and quiet and the light on Little Black Lake was magical at sunrise and sunset. There were numerous hiking trails and the walk to the beach through Hoffmaster State Park was pretty short. This getaway provides a very good combination of comfort and outdoor activities. There is nice shopping and gelato in Grand Haven just to the south and the farmers market in Muskegon, just to the north is very large. All in all it was very relaxing and fun.
We had a great time staying at Doris's house. What we loved the most is that you can walk out your back door and be in the State Park within 1 minute. From there its an easy 20 minute walk to Lake Michigan. We were there at off season and so we took the dogs down to the lake. They swam and had the time of their lives.
Besides the location the house was very clean. Although it is a little outdated the cleanliness made up for that. The lake across the street is beautiful and although it was too cold to go out on the lake, it looked as though in the summer months it would be paradise.
We had a family weekend at Doris' home. The house was clean and well equipped. They even had Kayaks, canoe and row boat. Our dogs were welcome. Their back yard goes directly to a forest preserve. You can take the trail and walk to Lake Michigan. We all had a great time and any questions you have Doris cheerfully answers.
We would go here again.

The owners have thought of almost everything! They tried to make sure everything was covered like having different sized life vests, bikes, to even having dog/baby gates. baby spoons, baby high chair, and all sorts of cleaning supplies.
Do not expect a 5 star hotel, as everything has aged in the house or shown some wear and tear, but this does not take away from the great experience. It actually makes it feel more homely. There is no AC, but the shade from the trees and screen windows provide a nice breeze to keep the house cozy.
Definitely bring bug spray if you are walking around. Even though by the house was free of bugs, once you walk back into the woods the mosquitoes were swarming (but what do you expect being surrounded by water). There are grocery stores near by if you forget anything, but any non food related stuff was pretty much included.
The owners are very responsive to the messaging system, so do not hesitate to reach out to them.
I almost hesitated leaving a great review, only because I am selfish and don't want their calendar to been booked!
We will be staying here in the future I am sure of it.
The Hoffmaster house and property were all we had hoped for and more! There were 4 couples and the 4 bedrooms allowed us all to have our own space. Our favorite part of the property was the fire pit on the lake. We watched the sun rise and the sun set. Amazingly, we were there during a full moon phase. Absolutely breathtaking!
We have had a very stressful year & this vacation was perfect! It gave my husband & me the chance to unplug & relax with our 2 dogs & our kitty. The house is just as depicted - clean, everything you need for your stay other than food & beverage is provided. The lake in front is gorgeous, very peaceful & we used the kayaks & had fires in the fire pit every night. We hiked with our dogs daily in the state park that is accessible from the back yard. If you want a place to get away, relax, & enjoy nature, this is the place for you. We intend to come back.
This is a nature-lovers paradise.
In front of our home is enthralling Little Black Lake - 250 acres of serenity. Hop in our kayaks, canoe or row boat- take a paddle and relax. Soak in the the quiet peacefulness and uniqueness of the unadulterated surroundings. It's a treasure trove of wildlife. Bring a camera to capture the spectacular sunrises, sunsets, moon rises and quaintness.
Take a walk out our back door and into Hoffmaster State Park. You'll be greeted by a canopy of hardwood trees, birds singing, squirrels chattering and 1300 acres of hiking trails. A ten minute walk brings you to the Gillette Nature Center. A twenty minute hike brings you to a mammoth dune. Climb the stairs to the top or meander around it and down to 3 miles of singing sand beach on Lake Michigan.
At the end of the day, roast marshmallows around our fire pit and then curl up in one of our four comfy bedrooms. Free linens, bikes, kayaks. canoe and row boat.
Other Activities: Lake Michigan and it's beautiful beaches, sunsets and piers are a must see! You may also want to check out Michigan Adventure & Craig's cruisers, the beautiful boardwalk and The Musical Fountain in Grand Haven, Also, don't forget to visit one of the many farm markets, u-pick farms, Muskegon's Naval & Art museums or just kick back and relax.
Golf: Oakridge golf course is just down the street. It is a great course. Other favorite courses include Stonegate, Muskegon Country Club and Grand Haven Country Club.
Ski: Great cross country skiing right out the back door
