About the property

4 Bedrooms + Loft - 2 Baths - (Sleeps 14)

Set in 5 acres of tall timber, this Park's home offers rustic elegance, comfort and absolute tranquility. A visitor would never know they were only minutes away from Flagstaff, restaurants and city activities. Choose from the night-life of Flagstaff or the adventures of the Grand Canyon (that is only a 55 minute drive!) , mountain biking, skiing or any number of outdoor activities within minutes of this beautiful retreat. This 2500 square foot home features a master suite, 4 bedrooms, a loft and 2 bathrooms. A supplemental wood burning stove adds that cozy touch while a family, or group of friends are nestled in for a late night home movie in this beautifully appointed Casa. The loft is great for kids and the covered porch, just off the living room, is great for BBQ's, boisterous conversations, relaxing evenings....Or just watching the wildlife. You are in the woods! The property backs up against 500 acres of Coconino National forest, so the only unexpected guests will be the deer, elk and eagle.

Snow play park off of Route 66 : 5 minutes away is a state park for kids to play in the snow, they have small runs for sledding and sliding etc. Anything you can think of to do in the snow. Great time for the family. Tubing year round at Elk Ridge Ski area.

Tubing in Williams, AZ : 12 minutes away is Williams, AZ 'Gateway to the Grand Canyon' and it has a small ski slope but half of the ski slope is used for tubing (year round) and it is a blast.

About Malcolm Giles

If you are a kind person I will give your family a discount. I take my job very serious and I want our guest to feel very comfortable. I will go out of my way to help them have an enjoyable visit. I love sharing my special place/home with guest. 99.9% love the experience.

Malcolm Giles purchased this house in 1999

Why Malcolm Giles chose Arizona

Wanted time away from the busy 'Valley of the Sun' time to relax and rejuvenate one soul and time to enjoy nature. Time to live in the now and be present to myself. The fun part now is I can share these moments with our wonderful guest.

What makes this house unique

No one is around, you are alone in the woods and you will not see anyone else while you are there. Why not get away from the crowds. I promise you will not want to leave.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We came to vacation and get out of the valley. Thank you for sharing your lovely home. We enjoyed rain storms, fresh air and relaxed. We didn't see any animals but it was nice stop between the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff and Williams. Which we were able to visit all due to the wonderful location of the cabin. Very peaceful, love the location, cabin had everything you could need. Plenty of water, lines, dishes and utensils, etc. Thank you for letting us use the garage to put ours in to keep animals away. We had a great time and really enjoyed our stay.

Ideal!

What a fantastic stay! We came as a company of actors who needed a home for a weekend while doing a show in Flagstaff, and the cabin environment was so relaxing and invigorating. The property was beautiful and welcoming--highly recommended!

This Rental Stinks

  • 2 of 5

Let me start by saying that over the past 20 years we have rented on average 2 vacation rentals per year. In 2016 we rented in Flagstaff for Easter, Southhampton over the summer and this rental for Thanksgiving. We have spent between $200 and $1000 a night for the various properties. We are not newbies at this vacation rental thing and I have never been dissatisfied with a rental.

We rented this property at a premium for the Thanksgiving holiday. We arrived Wednesday night and were met with an awful sewer smell upon entering. We called the contact # on the fridge and left a message asking if there was something we could do for the smell. We did not receive a call back and ended up having to deal with this smell while cooking, eating and celebrating our Thanksgiving. It was so bad and honestly if we had not had hundreds of dollars worth of groceries in tow we would have cut our losses and gone to a hotel. On top of this there was absolutely no outdoor furniture to sit on outside and my husband had to make the trek to the store on Thanksgiving to purchase things like paper towels, dish soap, etc (all things we have never had to supply for ourselves in a VR) and the 2nd bathroom was filthy.

The owner did finally contact me on Friday after I emailed him Thursday. I sat on the ground outside the cabin on a towel as we spoke. He was extremely condescending and acted like this was a normal thing to have happen with septic systems and that the smell is to be expected. In all the cabins I have rented (all on septic) never have I dealt with sleeping in a bedroom that smelled like an outhouse. He did not apologize once. When I let him know that the second bathroom was so dirty my kids couldn't use it he said condescendingly, "I'm in Scottsdale would you like me to come clean it?" When I asked him if I was maybe overlooking outdoor furniture he told me, "someone stole it so now we have to buy new". I have never rented a property that had no outdoor furniture and when you are renting for a premium you would think they would make an effort to supply this... or at least let us know and we would have happily brought our camping chairs to sit on.

Since I'm running out of characters I will end by saying I was promised over and over that they were sending someone out to clean the system. They did finally show up, on Sunday as we packed up our car to leave. We paid a premium price for this and owner took 2 months to refund deposit. This was the worst rental ever.

Owner's Response: Anyone viewing my property ratings will see this is an exception to the rule: It is professionally managed, cleaned, and stocked with everything imaginable to make our guests experience a memorable one. Having been inspected and cleaned less than a week before, and viewed by the property Manager the day before, up to that point the premises and septic were clean, and functional! All items inventoried and accounted for. Within 24 hours the septic backs up, the house dirties itself, and the supply closet is not opened to view soaps, towels, paper towels, and all needed cleaning supply's? The client sent an email to me on Thanksgiving Day, the night after their arrival. I don’t know if you ever tried to get any service on Thanksgiving, but none of the service companies returned any of my calls, or my assistants until (the next day), Friday. Given a priority, they arrived Saturday and remedied the situation as quickly as anyone could have done. Some outdoor furniture had been stolen, but given that is was 20 degrees, with an elevation of 7800 feet above sea level; I opted to buy new furniture in the Spring. There still is an expensive carved swing that seats 3 to 4 people and several tree stumps finish as seats after the trees nearest the home were cut and used for firewood; and to prevent the heavy snow and ice from causing damage to the property. Upon follow-up after speaking with the cleaning service and property manager, the client said she found dust on the 2nd bathroom windowsill, which rendered it unusable for her 2 kids. No property owner likes receiving negative ratings, but I did everything humanly possible to correct everything as quickly as possible, and as the client said herself, I even offered to drop my Family Thanksgiving and drive there from Scottsdale, to clean it myself! What more could I have done?

Nice cabin in the woods but we had water issues

  • 3 of 5

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It is tucked away in the woods, definitely a getaway from the city. We loved being able to be outdoors and not worry about the kids running into the streets. However, we did have a couple issues during our weekend stay there. The garbage disposal stopped working and we ran out of running water our second night. We were unable to reach anyone, given several numbers to contact, that night. Without running water, toilets weren't flushing and no one could get any hygiene done that night. Even though the property manager was responsive early the next morning, it was difficult overnight with a large party needing to use the bathrooms. She had water delivered the next morning, but many of us had already woken up and were waiting to use the bathrooms. She also attempted to fix the garbage disposal. Considering they knew we had a large party staying, it would have made sense for water to be properly filled prior to our arrival. Other from our water issues, the house appeared well maintained and had everything we needed for our stay.

Owner's Response: I am so happy you enjoyed your stay it is a beautiful getaway, I have enjoyed many of summers up there with my family.. I call it next to heaven, however the garbage disposal fuse flipped off for some reason and the water company flipped it back on.....The next morning. I am happy you had such a good time, for a few hours of discomfort giving me a 3 star rating is a bit low. But thanks for coming....

Great relaxing getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I were looking for a place to spend Christmas and have a family reunion that was overdue and the Cedar House turned out to be an awesome place for it! The cabin was charming and spacious. We loved the location in the midst of many beautiful trees and close to Snowbowl which was convenient as we wanted to go skiing. There was a snowstorm during our stay and the shoveling service came pretty soon even though it was Christmas which we appreciated as otherwise we would've been stuck. We would definitely come back for another ski adventure or white Christmas or any other time throughout the year.

Great cabin stay for my NAU graduation!!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I rented this cabin after being told that hotel rooms book up really fast for the graduation ceremony at Northern Arizona University. It was the best decision we could have made!! The cabin is beautiful and so private!! You have all the amenities you need within a 15-20 minute drive and everything you need (washer/dryer, dishwasher, stove, fireplace, fire pit, grill, and tv) within the cabin!! We even got lucky one morning and woke up to snow!!! It was great and the kids loved every minute of it!!

We loved our stay and will definitely be returning!! Thank you so much for making my graduation a memorable one!!

Notes:
We have added two new decks for your viewing pleasure, high up in the trees. Decks are on the second floor and you sit in the middle of ponderosa pines. Breathtaking. There is plenty of space to park an RV, boat or any tow-alongs. The spacious 2 car garage is available to all guests wishing to put vehicles in for the night. And of course....The full kitchen is equipped with everything a vacationer would need. The great room is large enough for some 'private space' and a fantastic gathering area to socialize and interact with family and friends.
