Attended the University of Virginia for my undergraduate degree and the College of William and Mary for my M.B.A. I reside in Williamsburg full-time with my family and pets. I am happy to help you plan your perfect getaway to the Tidewater area!!
Paula purchased this House in 2006
Why Paula chose Gloucester
I grew up in Gloucester. When my uncle passed he left me his beautiful home on the water. I spent many hours as a child on the beach and playing in the woods here.
What makes this House unique
For me Wareloch is the perfect getaway spot, I love the tranquility and peacefulness here. Whether I am enjoying the view by the water or taking a walk through the woods, it is a place that rejuvenates the soul.

Had a great time!
2 families with some adult kids had a great time - biking, swimming, kayaking, enjoying the view while chatting and playing frisbee and other games in the big yard. The house is very large with lots of interesting things. The house is getting old and the yard is kept up in the main areas only - you wonder how great the place was at one time. The owner, Paula, is extremely nice and anxious for guests to have a good time.
Very personal resonance
Very personal resonance for very personal reasons that are not everyone's reasons and since we must leave a review with words, it is a positive one. Great hosts and connection. Thank you!
I'm so glad that you enjoyed your stay and felt such a special connection to Wareloch. It is a place that reminds us of summers of our youth, lazy days by the bay with not a care in the world. Please come again!
This is a grand estate, much bigger than we expected and full of antiques and beautiful portraits.
The most amazing part of staying here was the private beach. I'd never been to this part of the state, so we thought we'd have to drive to Yorktown every day but no! We used their kayaks and floats in the river and it was a nice relaxing stay. I had a wonderful experience with my family since the house is PERFECT for hide and seek and tag. We loved wandering around the hidden gardens. There are tons of toys for children in the double beds room upstairs! Also we went to Chick-Fil-A every day and occasionally went to Wal-Mart for necessities.
We were always wondering- what happened in this house? What was it like 20, 30, 40 years ago? It was definitely unique and was once used for entertaining lots of people.
Thank you for the review. This house original was built by my uncle and he left it to me when he passed away. He was a circuit court judge and an avid history buff. The house was designed by his cousin and reflects my uncle's love of Thomas Jefferson. He also believed in repurposing things and rescued the paneling from an old plantation that was falling down, that had been on the York River. I am glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will return in the future. Best, Paula
We loved the bay and kayaks. Loved the abundance of towels and having a washer and dryer. The home is large with plenty of room, but the home needed a deep cleaning....bathroom around toilets and under all the beds and furniture. A few mouse droppings and a few cockroaches. Full of family belongings. Toaster needs to be replaced. The screened in porch was full of furniture and not ready for us. We would have enjoyed sitting out there. The home grew on us, as we imagined all the fun that the home provided for the family that enjoyed it in years past. Would not rent again or recommend.
Oh my gosh Linda, I am
I am extremely upset and horrified by your review, but greatly appreciate your feedback. We pride ourselves in 100% satisfaction, and would like to have had a chance to make your stay more enjoyable and up to your expectations. I have notified our extermination team of your observations and they have been addressed. Unfortunately, we have had a wet spring and living in the country, mice try to come in when it is wet out. But they have stepped up their efforts. In terms of the screen porch, you are correct, we don't leave the cushions on the porch overnight because typically, they can get damp. We do have them visible and adjacent to the porch, in the library, for easy guest access. I have replaced the toaster and requested that the cleaning service pay special attention to the areas you mentioned. I sincerely appreciate your feedback and I hope that you will change your mind and come again and let us make it up to you. Best, Paula
Perfect for Family
What a secret gem! This was the perfect spot for our extended family to gather together, play games around the dining room table, drink a beer on the dock at night and hang out on the screened in porch in the rain. While kayaks were available, the water was too rough while we were there but w/ the rain outside, we had fun reading the great books throughout the house and exploring the beautiful antiques scattered throughout the home The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well stocked, and the furniture super comfy. We really enjoyed our stay at this tucked away treasure and would go back any season. Also, the owner Paula, is super sweet and easy to work with!
